Glad you're home Tilllly. Cute puppy 🥰

No more cat fights thankfully Penguinsa. The orchids are beautiful and I really like the flower lizards.

Hoping your mites disappears this time Math. If I got neem oil in my hair I'd have had to cut it off!

Fingers crossed for your environmental health report Sprouts.

I've been prepping for some DIY today.

Tilllly · 11/02/2024 04:43

I don't know what neem oil is, don't think I want to!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 05:38

Penguinsa, Kew Gardens looks great! I visited the site and I'd love to visit! We have something similar, but smaller, I think.

https://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/bloedel-conservatory.aspx

Dinner was roast chicken and gravy (a little thick, but I was too hungry to care enough to thin it. Will fix it tomorrow for left-overs), roasted potatoes and carrots; and creamy polenta.

Have been puttering: laundry, vacuumed, changed beds, just popped a banana bread in the oven.

Bloedel Conservatory

The Bloedel Conservatory is an indoor tropical garden in Queen Elizabeth Park, atop the highest point of the city.

mathanxiety · 11/02/2024 06:10

Tilllly It's a stinky oil apparently made from seeds of the neem tree. I looked up ways to deal with the mites when I first spotted them, and the rest of the remedies were pesticides made from various manufactured chemicals.

Lovely pooch!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 06:50

Math, be careful, though. Neem oil is a natural pesticide and poisonous as well. 🤓

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 09:04

It's 1:00am. Havoc and I are watching Sesame Street and eating banana bread.
Havoc has been having a rough night having woken up crying inconsolably twice now. Baby began crying and for about a half hour it was total mayhem. Baby has been nursed to sleep and is now in new basinet I finally put together finishing around 12:15am. Thank god I have a few programmes PVR'd for Havoc... we have peace at last! 😅

MissConductUS · 11/02/2024 16:50

Havoc, I remember that mayhem when you have both melting down at the same time, in the middle of the night. Stay strong.

DD had a lovely time last night at the formal dance. She and her fiancee have gone to church and have brunch together. Today is DS's birthday. I've picked up his favorite cake from the posh bakery, and the four of us will go out to dinner tonight, then come home for cake and presents. DD drives back to uni tomorrow.

And tonight is the Superbowl, so we'll have that on after dinner.

We're expecting 3-5 inches of snow on Tuesday morning, so it's looking like a work from home day. DS has an in-person job interview scheduled on Tuesday morning, and it's not that close, so we're urging him to reschedule it or see if they'll do it remotely instead.

Havoc I hope little Havoc doesn't have an ear infection or a horrible experience of a molar coming in. In my experience, ear infections always became apparent on Friday evenings after the pediatrician's office had closed, or on weekend nights. Are you able to have a lazy day today to recoup a little energy?

I mopped the floor and rinsed thoroughly around the plant after applying the neem oil as Dcat likes to stretch out in patches of sunlight in the bay window and I didn't want to poison her. I also spot cleaned my hair and then showered before bed. Fingers crossed I've saved the hibiscus (and also Dcat).

We've had no snow here at all this February, MissC and temperatures have been weirdly higher than normal. I hope you won't have any utility problems if you get your predicted storm.

We're having chicken cacciatore for dinner and hoping for a good game in today's Superbowl. They can sometimes be disappointingly one sided.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/02/2024 20:01

Miss, Math thanks for the tips, insight and solidarity!
i may just change my pj's today and not get properly dressed. I suspect it was a bad dream or baby crying that woke Havoc. I was just finishing the basinet when everything hit the fan.
Will likely just watch Super Bowl half-time show and google the commercials in YouTube. We don't get US tv ads during it, only Canadian.
Despite being out of sorts from patchy sleep feeling motivated to tackle going through packed up clothes to sort for baby and donation.

Penguinsa · 11/02/2024 23:07

Thanks Mallards Hope the DIY goes well.

Thanks Havoc Garden looks lovely.

DD was out with her boyfriend today. We finally put the Christmas tree chopped up into the green bin, lasted very well. DDs boyfriend asked DD about it and DD said its because the cat likes it we kept it up.

Got Sainsburys order, completely forget I ordered that but all useful stuff, good jobs they e-mailed to remind me. Ordered some baby bel cheese to see if DS still likes it, apparently yes as all 12 have gone. DD made banana bread. Floof had 2 kitten tunas and DH brushed him and he purred.

Tilllly · 11/02/2024 23:29

I need a wee but I am warm and cosy in bed 😭😭😭

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 11/02/2024 23:34

Sympathies Tilllly 😂

Have you seen the Eden Project in Cornwall (UK) Havoc? It's a huge dome like the Bloedel. I visited once on holiday years ago when it was still fairly new.

bizzey · 12/02/2024 00:23

Hello all !

If anyone is suffering from insomnia...my post will sort you out. 🤣!

Lovely catching up with everyone's news .....very jealous of the food photos and puppy cuteness !

I have been struggling with a job I have to do in the house this week ....mentally and physically....so if course...I have just ignored it 😅!

It is a cupboard..walk in type , that I had to empty out a few weeks ago ...

Well I was determined that the stuff is not going to just go back in there
higgledy piggeldy style alla moi ....ohh no ....it was going to get organised and put back properly...

I started thinking about how to organise it tonight!! 😅.

(* note the date !!)

I have ordered another freestanding shelving unit so can hopefully finish the job by the end of the week !

I think that is a realistic time frame for me !

I just cannot get my brain to function sometimes ever when it comes to organise and tidy !

And I can't throw things out as well ..that is a problem !...but I won't bore you with .

Ohhh....and I tried to be clever and put a delayed timer wash on for a tablecloth ..and tea towels ....yep...that's on the go right now ..🤣🤣🤣..pressed the wrong button !!

@Mumtobabyhavoc ..your words you said to me in the summer still ring in my head though .......
Baby steps !!!

bizzey · 12/02/2024 00:44

My week was busier than just not putting the stuff back in my walk-in cupboard though !!

DS is on medication that is under a national shortage at the moment.

GP changed his prescription to an " any chemist " type of thing so I could get it from any chemist that had it in stock.

On my 12th phone call (!!) ..I found a chemist on a bus route I could do ..and raced out of the house like a desperate flippin drug addict to get his medication !

1 hour and a half later ...I was very happy having that in my handbag 🤣

Then I had to deal with poor mam reaching her 60th wedding anniversary without dad 😞..

(Dad died 6 years ago )

I knew she was going into her "downer " so has to keep her going.

I had a lovely photo of her and dad put into a " diamond" frame from when dad did not need sticks or wheelchair time.

I then took her out on the actual day.!

So I suppose it was an emotional week for me as well !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/02/2024 02:21

Mallards, just looked at Eden Project site. Wow! Looks amazing!
Tilly, yes, one little step at a time. One little trick to getting things done is to see what you can do in 15mins or while you wait for the kettle to boil. (Learned that on the other lovely thread I'm on.)
Speaking of...
washed two loads of Havoc's old clothes that were packed up. Took a good hour to sort through a box then decide what to keep for new baby. Anyway, that's done and clothes are hanging to dry. Will donate this week.

mathanxiety · 12/02/2024 02:26

Your mum is lucky to have a daughter who takes such lovely care of her, Bizzey.

Tilllly · 12/02/2024 02:49

Photos @bizzey?
Love a good clear out - it's a nightmare when you run out of steam before you finish though

Tilllly · 12/02/2024 02:50

I love a to do list @Mumtobabyhavoc
Very satisfying

HildaTablet · 12/02/2024 03:24

That was a lovely thing you did for your mum @bizzey

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/02/2024 04:32

Havoc dropped a baking dish which shattered leaving shards and chunks on the floor. As I was cleaning up Havoc cheered me on: Good job, Mummy! Good cleaning! 🤦‍♀️
Me: Thanks, baby. Mummy tries her best. 🤷‍♀️

Tilllly · 12/02/2024 07:08

Go Havoc 📣

😂

HelenaJustina · 12/02/2024 07:51

Loving the mini cheerleader Havoc gorgeous.

DH and 2DC have just left for a day in the New Forest, DC1 is in Rome and I have a relaxing morning planned. Luckily DC3 is like a sloth and will require nothing until my return after lunch.

MissConductUS · 12/02/2024 15:44

Havoc, count yourself lucky, I don't recall ever getting that kind of encouragement from my kids. One of our two cats has form for knocking things off the counter onto the floor when she thinks it's time for her breakfast or dinner and you're late providing it. I make sure not to have anything breakable on the counter now.

We had a nice dinner out for DS's birthday, then presents and cake last night. DD drove back to uni this morning. It's about a two and a half hour trip, so not terribly long. I may drive up there next month for her first dress fitting. I realized this weekend that the wedding is now less than four months away.

The forecast for tomorrow is now five to eight inches of snow. I'm not looking forward to that.

sproutsandparsnips · 12/02/2024 16:13

Gosh Miss that's a lot of snow! I always imagine you deal with it better in North America than we do here in the UK as we have it so infrequently panic sets in after just a few flakes!
Havoc how frustrating! What a good job you have such a helpful assistant!
Bizzey your family is lucky to have you.
Currently staying at my parents for a couple of days with DCs - it's getting less frequent as they are teenagers but they love to see them.

MissConductUS · 12/02/2024 18:37

Sprouts, it is a lot of snow. We had almost none last winter, so this will be the biggest snowfall in two years. That said, I've seen much bigger snowfalls in this area in years past. The town has just sent a text message that tomorrow's rubbish collection will be pushed off by a day while they deal with the snow. We get one rubbish and two recycling collections a week.

At lunchtime, I walked around the reservoir and got this fab close-up of the ducks. I'm assuming it's the same pair that I saw last week. I took this with the optical zoom on my phone, but I was within twenty feet or so of them. So I'm surprised they didn't scoot.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 28: Calmly through the day
