Penguinsa, quite a process though!

MissConductUS · 07/02/2024 15:18

Helena, well done for keeping the stomach virus confined to one DC. They are highly contagious.

Tillly, did the hospital feed you two starches in one meal? Was there a protein as well? I hope you feel better soon and were cleared for the gamma knife tx.

Penguinsa, I'm still confused by the uni admission process in the UK, probably because it's based on predicted grades. That's not done here, and it seems a bit daft.

And speaking of uni, DD has her car back. The garage replaced the battery and removed some mouse debris from the air filter housing. She's coming home Friday for the formal at her fiancee's uni.

DUCKS ARE BACK! 🐥

I spotted this pair this morning. I don't know if they never made the trip south or if they're back early. It's been very cold here for the last week, but the next two days will be almost spring-like.

@MissConductUS

Good to see the ducks back!

I have had the fun of doing a DBS check - to prove I am who I say I am etc etc. Gone through hoops! As I am a temp staff - what they call back, they asked me to send paperwork to prove who I am and where I live. Unfortunately my utility bills come out my rent. I gave them my passport, bank statement and P60 but they still wanted more proof of where I live. I don't feel I can contact the housing authority as there are problems there (my fault). It didn't mention it but I sent them my tv licence details which have my address on it. In the meantime they did not mention that but have sent me something called Trac which is what I have used in the past to apply for NHS jobs which confused me but it more or less says it is for a DBS thingy and comes from them so I completed that. I also remember a while ago (a year or so back) I completed one on the Government site but you had to do it via your phone and I did not understand how to work it.

My favourite porter came to my rescue so I now reckon I have 2 sorted out DBS thingies! So if the work one still won't accept the Trac one I have the other one. Only thing that bothers me is it asks what your surname is at birth and what it is now and if you changed it. Ok that is fine but if unchanged you have to say it is still that name up to 2024. What is the reckoning I have to update it in 2025!!!

Well, hopefully that is one thing off my plate. I will pop into work Friday to see if I get a reply from the temp staff people or not!

How come it is so bloody easy for fake doctors to pass it all the time??????!!!!

Tilllly · 07/02/2024 18:00

They tried @MissConductUS

Tbf, it's improved

Nothing fantastic but I'm getting veg and protein
They even offer dessert but they're plastic wrapped chemicals
The ice cream had no dairy in but did have palm oil!

Tilllly · 07/02/2024 18:02

This for example

That looks awful, Tillly. I suspect "Wiltshire Farm" is a factory in Essex.

Probably an old shed on a run down industrial estate

Why not offer a piece of fruit?

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 07/02/2024 18:25

MissC we have some ducks that don't bother migrating either, there's always some around although I've no idea of it's the same ones that stay each year. Glad yours are back.

Tilllly I'm sorry you're so ill. Hope they can fix you up soon. Being on constant pain is so awful.

Good luck for the DBS check Deathray

Glad everyone has their uni options through too.

I've succommed to the lure of giant prawn cocktail Wotsits (crisps). Goodness knows what they're made of, but they're nice, I'm a human dustbin today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/02/2024 21:05

I thought I saw crocuses sprouting on the weekend. Yep:

Deathray doing ID checks for DBS is part of my job, along with tracking Safeguarding training ( all for volunteers) it's the bane of my life.

Not caught up fully on the thread, sorry. Life is a bit much at the moment.

Spent today trying to tempt my grandson (18 months) to eat - I have 3 children and 7 grandchildren and I've never known a child so uninterested in food. He'll have yoghurt, peanut butter, banana and tuna mayo. That's it. And apart from the yoghurt he has to be encouraged to eat them. Tried poached egg today - nope.

Penguinsa · 07/02/2024 22:32

I googled where your hospital food comes from Tilllly and its half way between Trowbridge sewerage works and Trowbridge cemetery. There's nothing quite like NHS food. Hope you can get the gamma knife thing and better food.

Its been based on predicted grades for years MissC was exactly the same process in my day though if you don't get where you want that year can apply after grades for a year out or go through clearing for what is left for that year. There are exams at 16 here so they have results from those, a personal statement and a school reference and for Oxford there's also an entry test normally and an interview. I think its as the exams don't finish until end of June and the courses can start very start of September and July and August is holiday time here in education. Normally third week in July to first week September for state but private have longer holidays. And results aren't back until mid August so just 2 weeks before some courses start.

Just went swimming today and to steam room and jacuzzi, did 100 lengths. Starting to feel better.

Mallards I have also eaten top quality food this evening with a Triple Cheeseburger and coke though did have granola, banana and yoghurt before so I balanced it a bit.

DD was working today and came back to find DS had a bath and changed clothes. He had used a lot of conditioner and wild rose bath foam. Watched Below Deck the new series and also on Netflix the show about swimming NYAD maybe.

Tilllly · 08/02/2024 00:23

🤣🤣🤣🤣 @Penguinsa
That sounds about right

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 08/02/2024 00:34

Penguinsa eeew! 😂
Also love how your son sneaks baths and fresh clothes when everyone is out, as if he's kept in a dungeon and forbidden to do these things 😁

Penguinsa · 08/02/2024 00:59

I'm always glad when we come back and discover he has taken a bath and changed clothes as he seems to have 2 activities when we go swimming either he takes a bath or he spreads melted chocolate everywhere in the downstairs bathroom like a toddler on the loose (sink, under sink, floor etc) about 4 metres square of chocolate splatters.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2024 01:27

Penguinsa, interesting re the chocolate. Any idea why? Mmm triple cheeseburger!
Tilly, hospital food seems to be just as bad there as here. 🤷‍♀️ When will you know about the gamma knife? I googled that and it's very futuristic! 🤓
Iwandered, I hope things settle down for you.
re food and your dgc. Lately my toddler will eat apple slices, cucumber and tomatoes with hummus only if I dip and feed. Otherwise food sits untouched. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Have got lamb chops in a roaster with a jar of tomato basil pasta sauce. Going to cook down and pull meat apart and serve with pasta for Havoc and mixed wild rice other wise. Will also do some mashed potatoes with butter and garlic. Have just eaten salad of red bell pepper, cucumber, tomatoes and croutons dressed with evoo only and a sprinkle of salt. Sadly, no lemon in the fridge. Havoc has a buffet of fruit, veg, croissant and cheese barely touched except for what I have encouraged. Have got Sesame Street on tv from pvr.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2024 03:45

Havoc is asking me the same thing over and over. I am now responding with, "Meow" in various intonations. Havoc is uncertain how to respond, continues with the same question a few times, then finally replies, "No meow."
This is what happens when mummy gets very tired... 😸

Tilllly · 08/02/2024 03:57

Poor Havoc 🤣🤣🤣 😸 🐈‍⬛

I've another 45m then I'm up for meds, and off for gamma knife

Then back here for review and am hoping they let me go home tho might be being over optimistic. Tho temp isn't too bad

Penguinsa · 08/02/2024 04:20

Hope the gamma knife goes well Tilllly and you can get back home soon.

Try trilling Havoc 😎No idea what chocolate melting and splashing is about, presume he just likes playing with chocolate. 🤔

Watching more of NYAD and looking up short breaks.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2024 04:51

Penguinsa, I watched Nyad a while ago. Liked it, but did zone out a bit in parts. 🥱
Tilly, positive thoughts your way! 🩷🩷🩷

Have got laundry in, washed floors and cleaned bathroom.

Tilllly · 08/02/2024 07:19

It's posh here

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2024 07:25

Tillly, Try for extra days?

Penguinsa · 08/02/2024 09:27

That looks much better Tilllly

MissConductUS · 08/02/2024 13:59

I'll take the bacon and chicken sandwich and one of the Belgian chocolate brownies, please.

There was a bit of ice on the reservoir this morning. I'm going to leave early tomorrow to take DD and her fiancee to the train station for their night away in NYC.

Closing my ears to all your tricky-eater toddlers! We had an absolutely chore of a weaning journey but since about 12 months he's been pretty good, mostly just particular about how he eats (today spoon feed me, tomorrow I'll be horrified if you dare to try). I find I'm quite prone to worry about his food intake, so I'm trying to be mindful of that and not get caught up in thought patterns.

Back in a hotel after a few nights on a friend's sofa- grateful for the free sofa, but also very grateful to have a comfy bed tonight! Went to a step exercise class earlier, quite pleased I didn't pass out half way through as it's been a while since I did any cardio.

4 days till I finally go home! Hope you are home even sooner than that, tillly - even with the tasty food.

mathanxiety · 08/02/2024 19:46

Best wishes Tillly. Hope all is well.

We have temps of 15+ here, with gusty wind and a forecast of thunderstorms. It was really hard to judge what to wear this morning when it was much cooler, and my hair was blown to bits.

I bought myself a down filled winter coat with interior pockets yesterday at my local thrift shop - a steal at $14.99. I also found a nice dress to wear to one of the weddings I'll be attending this summer. It can be machine washed and tumble dried. I'll be doing laundry this evening as I always wash items I buy second hand before putting them away. My downstairs neighbour was using the basement laundry facilities all evening yesterday.
