Hello @cakewitch !
Welcome (though it is not my thread !)
This is a lovely thread to be on to tell us your news ..

Here is mine ...the height of stupidity 😭🤣!

Update for you all..

Massively boring ... beware!

  1. The othe day ..I sorted out the big cupboard that houses the boiler ...( 2 bags in kitchen ready to go to charity)

  2. moved old /unused TV from side of sofa ...twisted my back ..laid up a bit ..

Jobs not continued ...( Was concerned about how much naproxen I could take !)

  1. Things put back in boiler cupboard...looking nice and organised...(still got half the stuff in the kitchen mind !)

  2. upstairs controller not working for heating or water 😭😭😭..

  3. LL popped around...I had only gone and switched off the flippin switch to the actual boiler in the boiler cupboard by putting away my amazing Jenga pile of flippin stuff 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️...

We had no hot water ...I was boiling a kettle to wash up .(or heating...but luckily it has been 11 c ..but not heating even at that kucks in after a while and you need a little boost !)

I am so cross at my self for not checking the most obvious solution!

LL fine ...and glad it is sorted !

He is very good really .

I just wish he could visit my house when it is not always in a situation of disorganized planned mess because I have got charity collection coming !

bizzey · 28/01/2024 23:22

So glad I have water and heating for ds tomorrow morning!
He starts his jury service 😮!

He needs to be up and out by 6.45 /7am !

Cruel ds3 said a cold shower would wake him up quicker 😮🤣🤣!

bizzey · 28/01/2024 23:25

Obviously.he is working a shift till close !!

Ohh welll..
.
Looks like my alarm is set for 6am as well 🤣🤣!

MissConductUS · 28/01/2024 23:51

Welcome, @cakewitch and thanks for sharing your allotment news. We don't have allotments in the US, but I learned all about them here on Mumsnet.

Are you in the UK or somewhere warmer and more amenable to gardening?

We had our annual meeting at church this morning. All good news - finances and pledges are up, more families are joining and attending, etc. We have a lovely woman as our priest.

DH and DS have made Mongolian Beef, and we'll be eating shortly. We had a nice Zoom call with DD at uni earlier. It's been cold and rainy all day, unfortunately.

@MissConductUS Mongolian beef...? Is that even legal?!

👋🏻 @cakewitch what do you want to grow?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2024 00:26

Bizzey, glad water got sorted. I had forgotten about your ds going to jury duty.
Penguinsa, I've been meaning about you new name choice: what is the inspo? Floof seems aptly named considering the amnt of vacuuming you do! You'll have to explain about your dd doing more exams. I thought she got into uni?
Cake, we have community gardens here. There is typically a wait list, but it consists of an assigned raised garden bed. They are everywhere. I've signed up for a small one this year to teach Havoc about gardening. Planning on peas, carrots, tomatoes, Swiss chard and possibly strawberries.
Miss, we've got a "Pineapple Express" here. It has been torrential. It's a 10,000km jet stream. Major rain warning for flooding and landslide potential. It has effectively killed ski season locally from what I can tell.

Baby is still congested in sinuses and now has a congested sounding cough from chest. I've been doing saline in nose per doctor plus suctioning out the mucus in the nose. Sat in bathroom beside tub for a bit with shower running on hot to let baby breathe steam.

Have washed sheets and aired out bedroom and now have a large load of my pj's and Havoc's clothes in the wash. Was unable to sleep last night, so did 2 loads laundry and got into bed at 2am.
Have watched Shark Tale and Bee Movie today. Have got Space Jam on now. Had roast chicken in a croissant for lunch and followed that with a warm slice of the double choc banana bread I made with butter melting on it.
Was also my midnight snack last night! Still have a couple tasks to do, but am feeling a bit lazy now. Although I did tie up the garbage, change the bag in the bin and wash the bin out.
I think dinner will be a quick skillet meal: pasta, baby potatoes, zucchini, spinach and mushrooms with cream and some garlic and s&p for seasoning.
It's dark and raining. I'm glad I left a string of white lights on the deck.

Penguinsa · 29/01/2024 00:39

That sounds a lovely meal Havoc and so does MissCs

Havoc Here children normally take GCSES at 16 in the summer and A levels at 18 in the summer but you apply for universities before your A levels and then get an offer or not based on predicted results, in a few cases interviews, Oxford and Cambridge always interview, most others do not and entry tests for a few places. So DD did the entry test, the interview etc and got an offer of A star, AA from Oxford and she has to get that or more to go there in October, 97% of people they offer to will achieve the grades needed. Next 2 weeks it's practice exams called mocks, real ones are in May and June, results mid August. They generally still let you in down a grade. She has to find a second university to put as insurance choice.

Just like penguins.

I used to have an allotment Cake, was great to feel in the middle of nature when I was actually in a city. There was a school field on the other side of the fence and mine was set back from the road side of the site, so it really did feel like being surrounded by greenery.

That's good news about things picking up at the church MissC.

Glad it was a simple solution for the boiler this time Bizzey. Good luck to DS for tomorrow.

What's a skillet Havoc? This came up in conversation before and someone told me but it was years ago. To me a skillet is a kind of flat spatula for scooping things like fried eggs or pancakes up out of the frying pan but there's another use for the term which I can't remember. A regional difference I believe. I hope you aren't affected personally by the flooding.

What's this about parmesan Penguinsa? I'm pescatarian and been eating Muller yoghurt and parmesan, now thinking I shouldn't have been. When did food get so complicated? I thought cheese and yoghurt was purely dairy. Shows how little I know.

Home is all sparkling clean and tidy to start the new week. It's quite warm today, I got outside for a bit and went through the park earlier, found I wasn't cold at all.

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:18

Ohh Havoc ...I wish you were my mum right now ..

I so need comforting food and someone to to look after me 😊😅

Everyone thinks I am " bizzey" who's knows everything and can sort out everything and fix everything and is invincible!!

When really ...I want banana cake ( ever had it before ...!) and cream ..lots of cream ... preferably the Bailey's cream I tried over Christmas 😅!

I think I need to bake cakes ...instead of dinners ...that would give a much longer lasting pleasure 😅😅🤣🤣!

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:20

Sorry for my grumpy mood ...
No excuses ...just ..I am in a grumpy (stressed out mood !)

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:21

I want everyone's food !

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 29/01/2024 01:24

🥗🍲🥧🍰🍮🎂🥞🍩 💕 greens first Bizzey 😁

Penguinsa · 29/01/2024 01:27

Well done on getting house sparkling Mallards Parmesan is only veggie if you get a veggie one, explains here but it's not that nice to read. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/is-parmesan-vegetarian Muller Corners do look veggie to me now on a quick look and also have a vegan version though I generally hate vegan food. Love veggie stuff.

Hope you can get some nice cakes Bizzey

DD has now made all the sacks for her part of special collection but we have to put them out pre 6am, urgh.

What Do You Mean Parmesan Isn’t Vegetarian?

Traditional Parmigiano-Reggiano hinges on animal rennet. But for other Parmesans, it's more complicated.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2024 01:28

No one sleeps on this thread...😄

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:35

Havov ...well we do ...just at the wrong time !! 🤣

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:42

Mallards ....funnily enough...I do always eat my greens and veg first !

Could be because I hate them ..so I get them over and done with 🤣.

I don't enjoy them , but I still "crave " them ?

It is weird .if I have a pasta dish with no veg ...I know I want a dish with veg on the side next /sat after day ..( yeah ..the 5 a day doesn't happen in our house regularly !🤣🤣🤣 ...I am for 25 a week !! )

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:43

Still want banana cake now !

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:44

Is it really as easy as gone off bananas and a 2x2x4 sponge mix ?

mathanxiety · 29/01/2024 01:47

Fingers crossed the congestion will ease, Havoc. We have community gardens here too but I have no idea how I'd go about getting one of the raised beds for a season. I have a big deck that faces west and south and can grow veg and flowers there.

bizzey I always try a few solutions before calling my LL just in case I've overlooked something simple (been there, bought the Tshirt). Right now I'm waiting for her to send someone to fix my kitchen light switch which is stuck on "on". I think she may have forgotten my request. It's not a huge inconvenience but it is jarring to enter the kitchen in the morning and feel my eyeballs smarting from the glare.

half nice news about your DP's dad. Hope he gets his appointment.

I'm watching the NFL playoffs today, usually the best games of the year. I'm also scrolling online for inspiration for an outfit to wear to two summer weddings. There's no overlap between the guests so I'll get away with the same putfit for both. I may end up with loose, flowy pants and a top. Need to lose some winter flab.

I went to Mass earlier and the church was heaving, with the congregation in great voice and the choir excellent.

bizzey · 29/01/2024 01:59

@mathanxiety that is what I am kicking my self for !

I sort of knew I hadn't checked everything..and it was such a easy thing to check !

I think I went into panic mode about ds not been able to have a shower at 6am instead of relationally thinking about things .

Think brain is in overdrive over another stressful thing I have to organise.

Ohh well ... embarrassed 😣😳..but sorted

bizzey · 29/01/2024 02:07

A question for you all that I have never understood...

I actually don't like bananas .. as in the item/peeling /texture .🤮..

But I love ..love ...banana milkshakes and anything flavoured with banana ( all of ds 's medical protein banana milkshakes. ...yummy ! ...which he hates 🤣!)

But ...I Love Love Love Chocolate....
but hate chocolate ice cream/sauce /hot chocolate...

Why ??

Pondering how I will get on with a carrot cake ? 🤣

Tilllly · 29/01/2024 02:54

I'm the same @bizzey about chocolate
Other way around about bananas

Love coffee, hate coffee cake etc

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 29/01/2024 03:07

I don't like milk. I have it daily. It has to taste of something else though, like cornflakes or hot chocolate.

bizzey · 29/01/2024 03:21

Ohh what I would do right now for a bit of coffee cake !!
The cake of the Gods 🤣!

A cup of coffee though...well, we will have to see what mood my stomach is in !🤣

Always more palatable with a drop of Baileys in though!!

bizzey · 29/01/2024 03:23

milk only tastes good if you drink it from the carton !
