Though he took a bath and changed his clothes when we were swimming so that's good.

MintJulia · 21/01/2024 07:11

I was planning a day's peaceful enjoyable stuff today. Just been downstairs to make coffee and I have a wet kitchen floor. Looks like my morning will be spent in Wickes. 🙁

On the bright side, I've pulled the kick plate off the cabinets under the sink, and found the problem One of the bendy plastic drain pipes has perished. There's a little split about 5mm long. At least it's fairly easy to replace. I won't need a plumber.

Two steps forward, one back !!

MintJulia · 21/01/2024 07:17

And another positive thing. 😊 While the kick plates are off, I can clean out all the mess. I've never understood why kitchen fitters install beautiful kitchens yet leave sawdust, bits of tile and assorted other rubbish in the bits you can't see.

Would it really be a huge issue to run a broom under there before closing it up? Puzzling !!

DancesWithDucks · 21/01/2024 12:45

@MintJulia Yes!

A workman was once repairing something and had to remove a tricky cover. I dived in and started cleaning and he muttered grumpily "why do women always have to clean the bits you can't see?" Was funny!

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 16:16

Years ago I had workmen that weren't clearing up and I started cleaning when they were there as I had toddlers at the time in nursery and didn't want them to arrive back to dust etc. They then started cleaning themselves every night for about an hour. 😎I told them they didn't need to but was much better.

Washing in machine, just had lunch, roast for dinner and will clear little room, its just mainly boxes of the pets stuff. DD is out working. DS in living room gaming. Very windy out. Happy Sunday everyone.

MissConductUS · 21/01/2024 18:11

Well done, Julia, on figuring out the problem with the drain. We recently had a similar problem, and it was not easy to fix, so had to have all of the pipes under the sink replaced by the plumber. He replaced the copper pipes with PVC, which will last long than I will, so there's that.

Penguinsa, how did you get your DS to abandon the laundry room? I had never heard of a twin tub washer, but they are on Amazon here. Apparently, they are popular with camper van owners.

DD has selected her wedding cake flavors. It'll be vanilla with a hint of lime and a cream cheese and graham cracker filling. They gave her a six-inch round cake along with her second choice, a very dark chocolate, so there was plenty for us all to try. I think she chose wisely. The chocolate cake would have been a bit heavy for a June wedding after a big dinner.

She and her fiancee went to the movies after picking up the sample cakes, then he came back to our place, and we convinced him to stay for dinner and my early birthday celebration. I thought it was too cold to go out, so DH went to a very nice local place we like and got a takeaway for everyone. It was lovely getting to spend some time with him and hear about what he's been up to. He'll hear back on his graduate school applications in March, so we'll know where he and our daughter will live next fall.

I've just started The Madam Blanc Mysteries on Acorn TV. So far, so good, but I'm still a bit miffed that I'm done with No Offence. I loved Viv's last line though - "Keep Britian Tidy".

That sounds a nice cake MissC

DD went out to work then I said to DS we had washing to do and DS let us in to put on our two washes and take them out fine. Then DD returned from work and we told her so she quickly got a load on but immediately after she did that DS went back in there and locked the door. DD thinks its her he's trying to annoy. All mine and DH's washing is done now. DD wears so many clothes etc and insists on the long wash and doing it herself. But at least she has 1 load on. We are not sure why he is trying to annoy DD, maybe uni offers? He is also taking her food from the downstairs fridge and she is veggie and he hates veg but she has all the upstairs fridge which he doesn't target.

60mph winds here at the moment but should ease a bit later. DH is playing piano. DD is resting after a day in her sporty job. Roast is in the oven, roast lamb.

Just after university I rented a room in a house in Clapham which had a twin tub, never seen one before or after. I didn't use it and was lovely house / area but was very happy to buy my own flat and washing machine about 9 months later.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2024 18:49

Miss, the cake sounds delicious. I agree that flavour combo will be perfect for June. Your evening sounds nice, too. ☺️
Penguinsa, how is your ds doing overall? Has the school done anything for him yet (or did I miss an update?)?

Havoc still has fever, 38.3c and is dehydrated. Have just given milk which is all Havoc will accept. Going to do some laundry then cuddle with Havoc.

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 21:14

Sorry Havoc still has a fever. Hope you can all get well soon Havoc DS is a bit better but still a long way to go. The new school are not involved yet.

Had the Sunday roast. Cat appeared by me as soon as started mine. Just lit the candle. Lovely being inside rather than outside with the strong winds. Apple crumble and custard next.

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 21:24

DDs washing 1 is done and out and washing 2 on. 😎

halfpasteleven · 21/01/2024 21:46

Hope havoc is back to his best soon.

My DD is still out of sorts- apparently a high temperature is doing the rounds here at the moment.
At the moment calpol is doing the trick but she is complaining of a sore ear as well so I'll be keeping a close eye and hope she sleeps well tonight.
Feel guilty now that I have to go to work tomorrow when she is sick.
DS is coughing as well.. I saw a mention of the " 100 day cough" on another thread.. hoping this isn't a thing?
Glad the washing is happening for your DD Penguinsa- your dinner sounds lovely- I love apple in a dessert.
That cake sounds delicious Miss.
It's been very windy and wet here all day as storm Isha passes over us. So we baked cookies and muffins.

bizzey · 22/01/2024 00:29

Hello all ..
Sorry to hear some little ones are poorly 😞...wishing a speedy recovery to them and the mums exhausted looking after them !

The twin tubs chat has made me smile and reminiscent !!

We had one at our house share as well !

What a palavar !! 🤣🤣...

God forbid the person who attached the hoses to the taps without checking all the preparation that was needed ...IE ...that the kettle was filled with water for a cuppa and a jug was on the side ready for some squash or anything !!

We had to manoeuvre ours towards the sink so the taps and basically the kitchen was unusable for the whole length of the wash and rinse cycle !

Happy days !

@Penguinsa ..Clapham you say 🤣🤣🤣..

We were neighbours !
(Give or take 5 miles !! 🤣)

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 22/01/2024 00:37

My mum had a twin tub washing machine when I was a child. I liked to move the clothes from the washing part to the spinning part with the big wooden tongs.

bizzey · 22/01/2024 00:44

I have a a lazy few days 🤣...for a change !

But tonight I needed to print off a return label for Amazon ( ordered a green quilt cover ...and they sent me caramel and beige !)

Admittedly..I did leave it a bit late to do it .10pm ...

But I thought it would be a simple print and stick on the parcel.

I have a collection for it tomorrow.

Wellllll.!!
Label didn't print properly.
DS tried loads of things ...

To cut a long story short ....

Printer is CAPUT ! 😞😞😞..

But ..I have worked out ..it has got to be in the 9-10 year old age bracket 😅!

So I suppose I can't really complain..and I have absolutely hated it for about ...hummm 🤔🤔🤔...9-10 years 🤣🤣🤣..

Just not really in the mood for printer searching ..

Now that the boys are not at school and stuff , I only need it for silly things , so I think I will just go with a small cheap one for now ...

Unfortunately..I can't find one that is compatible with unused ink I have left over 🤣..

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/01/2024 06:57

Havoc am sorry LO is poorly. Hope baby Havoc manages to avoid being poorly.

Hope DD better soon half.

I long for a drier penguin DH not keen but I hate clothes laying about.

Work today for me. I have a class all day which I love but the person who helps can be tricky as they can sometimes not talk which is hard going all day,

Deathraystare · 22/01/2024 13:21

Hope all the poorly folks will be better soon

@MintJulia oh no a wet kitchen! Glad you were able to sort it and not a huge plumber job!!

Hope everyone in UK alright after the storm. I heard in the cafe that it has not finished yet. In Metro it appeared to be worse 'oop north' than 'darn sarf' where I am lots of noise of things tumbling about all night though I noticed nothing out of place this morning.

MissConductUS · 22/01/2024 15:09

Havoc, any improvement in your DS's condition today?

DD made it back to uni with no problems yesterday and we had a Zoom call with her last night. We wanted something hot and hardy for dinner, so DS and DH made Instant Pot Mongolian Beef. It was fab; we haven't had it in a long time, so DH had to run out to pick up some of the ingredients.

It was down to -11C this morning, and the reservoir has fully frozen over. As you can see, someone ignored the "Do Not Walk on the Ice" signs, but I doubt his or her name was actually Sarah. It's really a daft thing to do.

Has DS always been non-verbal @Penguinsa I am envious of the size of your downstairs bathroom, it can fit a sofa!

Penguinsa · 22/01/2024 20:08

Hope your DD gets better soon Half It was quite windy here until early hours but nothing too bad, though felt for our chickens in their wooden house.

Yes Clapham Bizzey but around 30 years ago now, had a very good deal renting a large room there with 2 others in the year after uni and they left the 4th bedroom free for guests. Looked up the old house on Rightmove, gosh its expensive there now. £2 million for that house now. 🙀Though think I was lucky when there, think she charged us about half the market rate.

Lovely photos MissC

Hope you can get a drier Lemons I always grew up with everything over radiators but prefer a drier.

Its a fairly average sized bathroom Helena but just has a toilet, sink, washing machine and drier in it though there is also a big walk in cupboard in it. DS has only spoken to certain people since he started speaking but in an odd pattern like a couple of teachers he would talk to at school, rest not. Asked him why, said the others annoy him and they go away if you don't speak. 🤔Feb 22 last time I heard him speak, about biscuits. School stopped talking before then but was in decline before stopped and screaming about school at the time.

DH has gone to piano and will get an Indian takeaway on the way home.

Tilllly · 22/01/2024 20:57

I used public transport to visit a friend today

Took me 2.5 hrs instead of 45 driving

HelenaJustina · 22/01/2024 21:07

Feb 2022, your poor boy. He has been so let down by services which should have supported him.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/01/2024 22:07

Half, how is dd today?
Penguinsa, I remain shocked that you ds still doesn't have a working education plan. Does he have any interest in returning to school now?

washed the bathroom floor mat and tub mat.
now watching latest episode of America's Got Talent Fantasy League at Havoc's request... for the 3rd or 4th time. I've been taping the episodes for Havoc to re-watch. The talent is quite good.
Havoc's fever seems to have come down, but the cough and sneezing remain. Still not eating today yet asking for a buffet...🤦‍♀️
have made soup for dinner last three days. Not sick of it yet. Might make another variation today. I have a canister of white beans I think I should simmer for later. 💡
still raining here and is in the forecast right through to next week. ☔️🌧️
no one has mentioned any damage from the storm that went through, so I take it everyone fared well. Sounds like parts of Ireland got hammered, though. I think there was even concern for tornado potential. Holy Hannah. 😮🌪️
Need to get Havoc settled for a nap but not motivated to move atm as I've got a sleeping baby on my lap. 😇🥰

bizzey · 23/01/2024 01:15

Hi ..hope everyone is doing ok 😊.

Havoc ..glad Havoc#1 is fairing a little bit better.

How is big sibling getting on with the new addition to the family 😄...

I was basking in 11c today 🥵!!!
🤣🤣!

I actually went down to 2 layers of clothing ..😲😲!

Think the storm missed my area , though the Wisteria was very noisy scratching on the windows !

I have a workman coming tomorrow (today !) and it is stressing me out already !

Boiler check and to check in the loft the water tank as it runs out of water and then has to fill up instead of constantly filling up .

Something is definitely not right in the loft .

The last few days I have been very aware of a musty/damp smell upstairs ( I thought one of the boys had been using a really horrible shower gel 🤣)..

As you all know I am not Mrs Hinch ...but this smell is not something I am use to .. something doesn't smell right.

I also had to make space in the annoying downstairs walk-in cupboard thing , for the boiler check.

Area is about 7ft long but 1ft wide ..

And boiler is right at the end of it 🥴.

So lots has to get taken out for this workman to get to it ..i am absolutely not saying that this gentleman who does this boiler check for years is a large man ....but ...!!

I have portable shelving units in there with big cooking pots and pans and things and a load of other crap that just builds up !

Annnd ...that felt /smelt damp as well !!

So I think Christmas decorations are going to have to go on top of my wardrobe and not back in there .

Didn't take long to take the stuff out...

Will take me ages to put it all back in neatly 🤣🤣

Tilllly · 23/01/2024 01:47

@bizzey you can buy those damp condensation thingies, little tubs of something that absorb damp
