Lovely pics Bizzey, Hilda and Miss.
It's been a long week this week as there has been a junior doctor strike so I have had to work extra hours to cover, glad it's Friday now.
My blackbird friend is back (though obviously can't be sure he's the same one as last year). Not seen Mrs blackbird yet though.

I thought I was looking at the starship Enterprise

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 19/01/2024 18:41

Cute birdie sprouts. I have a pair living I my garden too.

Good luck to DS for the job interview MissC

Today I am mainly being cold ❄️

MissConductUS · 19/01/2024 18:51

Math, we have discussed colors. My daughter has seen a picture of my dress and likes it. I have to assume she's seen her future MIL's dress as well.

Nice bird and bin photos, Sprouts. Tillly, I thought the same thing for a second when I saw that photo, but I'm a die hard Trekie, so it didn't bother me.

Death, that all sounds very trying. If I ever make it to the UK, I'll try to avoid Kingston.

Thanks, Mallards, I'm hoping he hears back from them soon. I think he really wants this job.

The snow arrived here as promised. The bird feeder has been very busy. I can't identify this fellow off the top of my head. Some species of woodpecker possibly. He had some red on the top of his head that didn't come out in the photo.

Hope you had a good day off Half

Cat has been on my bed most of the day and also in the small hamper.

DD has another uni offer in Bristol but same grades as other offer. One to hear from and 2 more to add. DD is saying she doesn't want to be too far from home, I think she has narrowed choice down to 3 so progress.

Lovely to have snow MissC and Havoc

Lovely pics Hilda

Did some hoovering of cat hair and just had steak in red wine sauce, new potatoes and broccoli followed by a lovely real chocolate hot chocolate.

DD is annoyed with DS as he keeps blockading the downstairs bathroom which has the washing machine and drier in. DS appears to be doing it partly to annoy DD. He did come out at the speed of light when DH told him he had steak and chips waiting for him. Managed to get washing out of machine and drier quickly. We may move them.

Have a lovely scented candle in a ceramic pottery jar and cat is entranced with it from the lighting of the match, the smoke after, the flame, he sat there for 30 mins gazing at it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/01/2024 21:22

Took Havoc to emergency at about 5am with awful cough and fever. Started with shivering and teeth chattering at 9pm last night, then woke up crying and had cough and fever at 2am. I figured it was croup. (Google/YouTube diagnosis 🤓) Doctor confirmed that and said probable RSV as well and gave dose of steroid to help with breathing. So, I've got toddler asleep in bed beside me and baby asleep on my chest right now and no plans other than to get some sleep.
Bracing myself for baby becoming ill and have already reached out to midwife. I have a sore throat as well. 🤦‍♀️
Plan is to survive the next week. 🤷‍♀️

Penguin, your diner sounds so good! You've mentioned this meal before and I really need to look up a recipe.

Miss, looks like a good amount of snow. We've now got rain/freezing rain, but temps are projected to increase and rain to continue. Roads are slushy and still icy.

Tilllly · 19/01/2024 22:42

@MissConductUS has your DS heard from his job interview?

Deathraystare · 19/01/2024 23:53

@MissConductUS

I went into Fenwickswhich is a very nice store and perused the make up. Decided to look for a loo. According to the store guide there was one just by the exit. Err no. Unless they expected me to pee in the shop window?? Went upstairS as said there was one next to the eating place. Again nope.why so coy at showing where the loos are??? Went back out to Bentalls centre to find loos only on 2nd floor. It is a labyrinth to get to with all the escalors ( some not working naturally). Anyway, at last I avoided a tsunami and thanked my lucky stars I did not have kids with me! Was impressed with the ones in John Lewis though which I visited earlier. Signs not just for male and female able bodied but ones with walking stick signs for male and female and also female and male baby changing ares too!!

Deathraystare · 19/01/2024 23:54

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Gosh I hope you are all better very soon!

Penguinsa · 20/01/2024 00:48

Hope you all get better soon Havoc

Have my candle on and a trilling cat.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 28: Calmly through the day
Penguinsa · 20/01/2024 00:54

DD finally decided to start to set up her treadmill this evening. I was put on mission distract cat. Hence candle.

mathanxiety · 20/01/2024 01:39

Oh no, Havoc! I hope you and Baby can stay well and that little Havoc will recover. Do you have anyone who can come and look after you all?

MissC that looks like the kind of woodpecker we get here.
I set out a plate of seeds for the birds on my way out to work. The snow in the backyard was criss-crossed with bird, rabbit, and squirrel tracks first thing in the morning. The squirrels probably enjoyed the seeds. I hope they left some for the birds.

halfpasteleven · 20/01/2024 04:26

Get well soon to Havoc and I hope Baby doesn't catch anything. Or you, @Mumtobabyhavoc - it's a worrying time for you but you did the right thing with them both.
My DD has had a rotten temperature on and off all week- tis the season for it but it's hard for us mammies when they are sick.
Hope you all get some sleep x

MissConductUS · 20/01/2024 10:05

Helena, sorry I missed your question. The dress is blue.

Havoc, so sorry to hear about you and your little one falling so ill. RSV is rampant here. We've all had the new jab for it. Are they offering it where you are? Steroids will help, but they may disrupt Havoc's sleep a bit. We did get a good amount of snow.

Tillly, he was not offered the job. I think it's probably best because the work was very similar to what he's trying to get away from, but he was still upset. What's worse is they've been making a lot of staff at his level redundant, and he thinks they will make him redundant next month. He had a job offer when he graduated from uni, so he's never been out of work. He has a career coach he's been working with, and DH has been pointing out that because he lives at home and has very minimal expenses, it's not going to be a hardship financially. He has a lot of money saved because we haven't asked him to contribute financially the whole time he's been living at home and he's been making a very good salary. He's also quite frugal and sensible with money. It's still very stressful for him, and I think he feels like his sister getting married makes it look like she is moving on with her life in a way he is not. It's hard as a parent to see him going through this.

DD is leaving for uni tomorrow. My birthday is next week, but we're going to celebrate it tonight so that she can be here for it. We'll either go out for dinner or get a takeaway and DH said he'll get cupcakes from the posh bakery today. It's -10C here again, but it's supposed to warm up next week.

Tilllly · 20/01/2024 10:12

Sorry to hear that @MissConductUS
It's hard on them to process rejection but at least he's ok home / money wise
That will buy him some breathing space

MissConductUS · 20/01/2024 10:18

@Tilllly, we've been pointing out to him that because he's under no financial pressure, he can take his time and find something that's a good fit for him. DH works in IT and has been made redundant a few times. It's much more stressful when you have a family to support, and all of the bills are on you. I was a SAHM until the kids started school.

Tilllly · 20/01/2024 12:28

Would he be interested in some volunteer work in the short term?

MissConductUS · 20/01/2024 15:18

Tillly, he might. He's still a member of our local crew team and could do some coaching. I think he's probably spend most of his time job hunting.

I'm not terribly worried if he does get made redundant. He has a very good CV for someone his age, the economy is quite good here at the moment, and his skills are in demand. It's just something he's never had to deal with before.

DD and her fiance have gone to pick up their cake tasting box.

I'm sure DS will get snapped up MissC he sounds an asset to any company. Your bird is a great spotted woodpecker.

Hope your little ones feel better soon HalfPast and Havoc.

I love seeing the tracks in the snow first thing in the morning Math.

Pretty candle Penguinsa.

Sorry you had such a mission to track down some toilets Death.

I bought a Lumia IPL today and did the first session. Does anyone else use one? I'm hoping it'll be effective and I can give up shaving.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2024 20:37

Thanks everyone for the kinds thoughts for Havoc. Half, also hoping you DD is feeling better.
Havoc sounds and looks better. Not really eating, but at least taking liquids.
Baby is sneezing but as a nb could be related to nb congestion (Havoc was quite congested for a bit as a nb also). Baby is feeding well and diapers seem normal.
My sore throat seems better now.

Was inspired by another thread I'm on * to make soup yesterday and I think I will do same today. Snowy, slushy and rainy weather here, so soup seems to fit.

*other thread is similar to this one with kind chit-chat, but a focus on organizing and cleaning our homes.

I thought it was the soup thread
200 posts about how wonderful soup it - absolutely reasonable

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 03:30

Hope you had a nice birthday celebration MissC Hopefully your DS will keep his job and if not sure he will get something before too long.

Glad things are getting better re health Havoc

Thanks Mallards Never used one of those, probably the only nice side effect of chemo, well apart from no more periods ever is much less hair on a long term basis at least for me.

DD spent the day with her boyfriend. I went swimming and did 100 lengths, had a kebab from kebab place for dinner, and also cleared about 1 sack of stuff. DD is doing her room and has made about 3 so far. DS keeps blocking the washing machine and drier, DH is meh but DD is cross (possibly DSs aim). DD sent me an advert for a twin tub asking if she could have one for her room, not seen one of those for years. 😂

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 03:31

Hope your DD is better soon Half

Sending love to Tilllly

Tilllly · 21/01/2024 03:33

How is he blocking the washing machine?!

And how does DD think a twin tub will work in her room?

🤣🤣🤣

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 03:44

The washing machine and drier are in the downstairs bathroom and he has set up a sofa in there, blankets, cushions, cakes/chocolates, 2 ipads and locked the door, no idea why - possibly to annoy DD as she wears about 10 outfits a day and is the chief user of washing machine and drier. He came to the kitchen to get his meals and drinks and eats/drinks fine but its not long enough for us to get in. He's non-verbal asd and a teenage boy. The only chance we have is he cannot charge his ipads in there but he has two and a third on charge.

This is what DD sent me but no idea how they work, presumably need a water supply which would rule out her bedroom.

Penguinsa · 21/01/2024 03:47

He appears to be trying to get the whole of our ground floor for himself and I think the washing machine and drier are hostages in this situation. The cat's litter tray was also but that has been got out.
