School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

Why?

Maybe they work in the school for breakfast club/prep in the morning, go home, then come back for lunchtime.

Euribia · 26/09/2023 11:12

They have our logo school hoodies on and then its like a chef white type of uniform I just think is it showing off in the playground to other parents bringing them attention /questions along with it not being hygienic. As they prepare food and serve it

That's the most logical conclusion.

I can't think why anyone would put on a tabard or apron at 8.30 if they don't start work until midday?

I think I’d find something else to concern myself about.

Janieforever · 26/09/2023 11:14

You think they are showing off ? 😂

Needmorelego · 26/09/2023 11:15

If the OP is meaning kitchen staff then surely they drop off and then head to the kitchen to get on with their job - not go home !
I don't know the health and safety rules for food preparation but I see people in McDonalds etc uniforms on their way to work all the time so they obviously don't get changed once they are at work.
Most people who wear a uniform for work don't change at work do they? They wear it while on the way to work.

Sunshineclouds11 · 26/09/2023 11:15

Showing off about what 😂🙈

CandyLeBonBon · 26/09/2023 11:15

Showing off? About what??

TokyoSushi · 26/09/2023 11:18

OP! No.

WTF would they be showing off about?!

Ladyoftheknight · 26/09/2023 11:19

Dinner ladies are great and one of the most important roles in a school but their uniforms are rarely anything to show off about hun. Unless they get louboutins and chanel handbags to go with them, you don't have to worry xx

Concerns about ICU staff I could understand. Don’t really see the issue with lunch staff?

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 26/09/2023 11:23

If they are preparing school lunches how do they have time to go home?

Even if its all preprepared by outside catering someone still has to be in the kitchen a good few hours before dinner to open all the packets and heat it up and have it ready for serving, put out tables and chairs out, jugs of water etc.

our school cook makes everything from scratch and is in from early morning baking shortbread, making bread, making pastry, chopping veg, layering lasagnes, chopping and peeling spuds, making up the salad bar etc.

She also prepares all the fruit/milk etc for morning snack time. It's a full on job and not just a turn up a few mins before the lunch bell goes type thing and that's for a small rural primary.

Nemesias · 26/09/2023 11:26

why on earth would they be showing off?

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 26/09/2023 11:29

Showing off as in "ner, ner, ne-ner, ner, I've got a jo-ob"?

jay55 · 26/09/2023 11:30

Do they even have anywhere to change?

ActDottie · 26/09/2023 11:31

Lol

toomuchforonewoman · 26/09/2023 11:35

My Mum's a dinner lady and she wears a uniform so HA she's better than your Mum!

Cop the feck on OP.

Absolute batshit post.

showing off about earning £12 an hour. I am struggling to understand this.

So the hygiene issue is not as important for you?

Blarn · 26/09/2023 11:36

They have most likely got dressed to come to work. The kitchen staff start prepping the meals in the morning, its the only way they can feed a few hundred kids at 12.

rollonretirementfgs · 26/09/2023 11:36

If they are involved in food prep then yes it's not acceptable. But actual dinner ladies who wipe tables and supervise the children???

Why would anyone show off about being a dinner lady?!

mariaonthepier · 26/09/2023 11:38

Why don't you apply to be a dinner lady since you seem so painfully jealous of the uniform?

LemonWaterSugar · 26/09/2023 11:39

I did wonder if ever Mumsnet would dry up as every thread topic has been covered but then this happens - I think Mumsnet can carry on for years.
