School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

OK. Not rtft, so dont know if anyone else has said this. I used to be a dinner lady (the ones that prepare and serve) quite a few years ago...at that time it was a huge no-no to wear your uniform outside the kitchen/dining hall, we even had to don a plastic gown over the top to go into the main part of the school, bin area, playground etc. This was very much for hygiene/contamination reasons. We arrived at work in our own clothes and changed in a room separate from the kitchen. Equally, any teachers, visitors, etc. also had to put on protective covers when entering the kitchen. Maybe regs have changed...this was quite a few years ago now?
Some of the uniform incarnations in those days...certainly not anything to show off about whatsoever 😂😂

No, it's probably become even more stringent if anything - maybe you could explain to those who would sooner attack me, the OP and anyone else who can speak from experience, than listen??

You certainly didn't.

I never had school dinners.

Funny how all your posts are getting deleted though....strange that..

None of my posts have been deleted, but I think this entire thread should be.

The behaviour on it is a disgrace.

Think some people need to go and stand in the corner.

For the sheer level of abuse on such a trivial subject perhaps this is one for MN Classics!

Getting kind of tired of unpleasant people pretending that they aren't. Just own it because no one is buying it

@Fallingthroughclouds given some of the names you've called pps on here, are you going to practise what you preach?

I've not used any names and the whole point is I don't claim to be perfect or that I don't snipe when I disagree or feel strongly about something.

A lot of you seem to want to take the higher ground. Ie you're bitching whilst accusing people of being bitchy. You're being antagonist and vitriolic in equal or excessive amounts and then you are flouncing and claiming superiority instead of just admitting when you are wrong.

I thought this was clear enough. I can be as unpleasant and the next person, but I am willing to retract or apologise when I have gone too far. I certainly don't look down on people, the worst bitchiness I have seen on here is people being snide whilst claiming it is for altruistic purposes and that they are pure of heart. Nope they're just bitching, purely because want to. No one is buying it. It's hypocritical and snobby.

There is nothing trivial about reporting a dinner lady for something like that. It is downright mean and nasty. She did it because she could and she took sheer glee in it and all because the woman was "showing off". You couldn't write it.

I once saw a woman lose her shit because people cut their pizzas differently to her.

Hi all

Can we have a bit of peace and love please? If this continues, we will be removing the thread.

Thanks Lily.

I think it's already crossed a line though.

The OP's approach, while coming at it from a bit of a strange angle, is technically correct, no matter how much some try to argue the point.

She did not deserve all the mean-spirited derision, and I feel bad for her.

This is so funny 😂.

We need the dinner lady poster from earlier to come and sort them all out.

And another...

Yes, and another who clearly knows nothing about commercial catering or the food hygiene practices within it.

Dinnerlady12 · 26/09/2023 18:06

Our uniform is a tunic and trousers similar to what nurses etc wear. A trilby hat with a hair net and safety shoes. Latex gloves worn when prepping or serving food. When the area managers come round to check everything is as if should be they walk around in their normal clothes and shoes with no hat🤷🏻‍♀️

Off topic, but I hope you aren't wearing latex gloves to serve food. Where gloves care needed, they should be Vinyl.

Sorry yes they are vinyl gloves.

Willmafrockfit · 26/09/2023 20:50

i worked in a kitchen,
we wore checked trousers and a shirt, drove there wearing it, i remember because i was embarrassed when i got home wearing the uniform
but during work we had aprons
no gloves are used in kitchens.
this was for a meals on wheels type establishment.

Ya reckon...

I know about the rudiments of food hygiene practices in schools. That is what the thread is about. I'm not a specialist in the catering industry but I work closely with area managers.

Dinnerlady has explained it - yet somehow when I say the same thing I'm wrong?
