School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

This seems bizarre judging on the staffrooms I've seen!

To be fair our staff room is clean as it's only used for the purpose of changing and storing our bags but it's tiny and there can be multiple people getting changed at the same time. I'm glad I have different start and finish times and get some privacy.

MrsPinkSky · 26/09/2023 16:50

I'm a dinner lady
I served the kids their tucker
Until one mum complained
The miserable little fucker.

TheShellBeach · 26/09/2023 16:53

I am a dinner lady
I make great chips and cod
And then my moany pal complained
The stupid fucking sod

You sound like a busy body jobsworth op.

TheShellBeach · 26/09/2023 16:58

I used to be a dinner lady
Earned less than a banker
My pal she fucking told on me
Wasn't she a wanker

Rummykitten · 26/09/2023 17:05

My uniform’s immaculate,
A real source of pride,
I’ve worn it on my holidays,
And even as a bride!

Itick8outof10boxes · 26/09/2023 17:06

Heck, there are some real knobs on this thread! Let's all gang up on the OP, AIBU is that way for bitchiness and general stupidity.👉
Bitch about me now I'm done with my bit, having only read the first page of drivel.

Ridemeginger · 26/09/2023 17:06

There's egg on face of colleague, whom
To head tall tales has told
I'll watch her like a hawk from now
And make a dish served cold

Rummykitten · 26/09/2023 17:09

Monday is lasagne,
Tuesday, cottage pie
I’ll watch my back when peeling spuds,
The kitchen’s got a spy!

Couldn't agree more. But then, apparently I'm a sock puppet even though my writing style isn't remotely like the OP's so I would say that, wouldn't I?
Playground bullying epitomised.

Wow what's it like to be so blessed that this is your biggest problem in life.

From the OP's posts on here, I can only see one actual knob. And that would be her, for doing her utmost to throw her colleagues to the wolves, whilst trying to maintain an irrational sense of self-righteousness.

That's all.

The plural of lady is ladies not "ladys". I hope you don't teach.

Why would someone "show off" about a minimum wage job? Perhaps they are proud of their affiliation with the school. The dinner ladies at my kids' school usually start work straight after drop off, doing prep work, taking deliveries, doing admin and ordering etc. What makes you think they are going home?

Judging by some of the spelling and grammar I see from teachers on here she probably is the head of english... 😁

Zebedee55 · 26/09/2023 17:16

I would imagine most people don't change their clothes after cooking for their family. I don't get the stress with this.🙄

toomuchforonewoman · 26/09/2023 17:28

I was doing my important job,
When suddenly I spy,
Something that is not quite right,
With the lady walking by.

Brazenly in her uniform,
She dropped her kids to school,
Now for a dinner lady,
That is a broken rule.

She was really showing off,
Hips were all a swagger,
In her chef's white's she was,
With the moves like Jagger!

Now I'm a concerned citizen,
We can't be having this.
Who does she think she is,
She is taking the piss.

So I report her there and then,
It was received with glee,
It's on the minutes for next meeting,
Good old important me!

Now if you see the same my friends,
You really HAVE to tell,
I would be an all rounder,
If only I could spell!

Well here's an update! I mentioned it as its against our school rules that we don't wear uniform in the playground and infant the headteacher was very happy to receive the information and it will be spoken about in our next meeting

Why are you pleased about that? It’s utterly petty, do you genuinely believe the head didn’t know? That he or she couldn’t see them, and now feels forced to act and is dismayed by you?

im guessing you’re not a popular employee. You are grown up.,not a kid telling teacher something they already knew and didn’t care about.

Is this thread a joke?🙄

fiftiesfresh22 · 26/09/2023 17:40

OK. Not rtft, so dont know if anyone else has said this. I used to be a dinner lady (the ones that prepare and serve) quite a few years ago...at that time it was a huge no-no to wear your uniform outside the kitchen/dining hall, we even had to don a plastic gown over the top to go into the main part of the school, bin area, playground etc. This was very much for hygiene/contamination reasons. We arrived at work in our own clothes and changed in a room separate from the kitchen. Equally, any teachers, visitors, etc. also had to put on protective covers when entering the kitchen. Maybe regs have changed...this was quite a few years ago now?
Some of the uniform incarnations in those days...certainly not anything to show off about whatsoever 😂😂

unique78 · 26/09/2023 12:47

Dinnerladies are supposed to bring their workwear to school, get changed at school (usually in a changing room off the kitchen), and when their shift ends they are supposed to change back into their normal clothes and take their workwear home to wash daily. They are also supposed to leave their work shoes at work.

It's all about hygiene and cross contamination, and the kitchen staff would (usually) be in big trouble if they hung around outside the school building in their uniform. Schools/catering firms are generally pretty strict about this policy.

Not yours OP though, by the sound of it! People are mocking you, but if you're serving a child with a severe allergy, accidental cross contamination can be very serious.

That's always been my understanding but posters are just falling over themselves to belittle and scorn the OP.

Zebedee55 · 26/09/2023 17:46

Bearing in mind the absolute crap food schools dished up when I was at school and my kids were, (a lot of years ago!) the least of the problems should have been about wearing their overalls in public lol 🙄

mayorofcasterbridge · 26/09/2023 17:50

inappropriateraspberry · 26/09/2023 12:53

I cook at home in the clothes I've worn all day - no one has become ill from it! 😆 How would it be different at school? Do you think they should change into clean clothes in the kitchen? What a weird post.

Clearly you don't know much about hygiene in catering!!

Come off it...the dinner lady was showing off?? Are you having a laugh. Imagine deliberately trying to get someone into trouble like that. Absolute lowest of the low thing to do...and be smug about doing.

KARENJRAYBOULD · 26/09/2023 16:25

I work in a care home and we are strictly forbidden to come to work or go home in uniform. Most hospital staff are the same. It is completely inappropriate and they should change into uniform when they get to work. In fact I'm surprised they don't have 2 lots of uniform one for dealing with food and another for the rest of the time. Frankly it's a little lazy and raises the risk of cross contamination. They could be changing babies nappies or scrubbing the loo before coming to work!

Jaysus. Now people need TWO uniforms just to serve food. Fucking ridiculous. I'm not in the UK, but if this is how batshit it is over there that's a concern.

People serving food wear aprons over their ordinary clothes. No need for a uniform, or even a full hazmat suit, which is what some on here seem to think is needed. This thread has well and truly jumped the shark. And in real life, I don't know any employer that would countenance wasting a chunk of shifts changing in and out of clothes. Most normal people leave home in their work clothes, not faffing around at work. I think some people on this thread live in an alternate universe where employers are happy with employees wasting time getting undressed then dressed again. It's just not normal real life.

If the op was primarily concerned about hygiene then her responses would be different, but she thinks they are showing off. Trying to attention seek and hoping for questions. She’s now reported it to the head for this primary reason.

I don’t know what her job is that she’s jealous of the dinner ladies, but it can’t be good.
