School dinner ladys wearing uniform in playground

I work at a local primary school where I know a few parents who are dinner ladys i keep noticing they wear their uniform when dropping their own kids off and then they go home and then come back at lunchtime. Do you feel this is appropriate. Im not sure whether to mention it to our head

OP posts:

Do you know what's dull? Defending a nosey, curtain twitching, nothing better to do Jobsworth who has went out of her way to report someone for "showing off" in a dinner lady uniform. In fact, that's actually duller than the OP herself, at least she had the decency to flounce when she realised what a twat she was.

Errrm we're on the same page. You've massively understood my responses, either that or you quoted the wrong poster.

Unlike you, I know what I am talking about. You clearly don't have a clue. The workers are not following the rules!! They have lockers to store their own stuff including their mobile phones which they aren't allowed to have in the kitchen!!

It is totally normal in the education sector, and probably other professional, large scale catering settings.

However, instead of educating yourself or listening to any of the posters WHO DO KNOW how the system operates, you would rather have a go at this poster!!

I am standing up for what is correct and I am disgusted by the nasty goading of this OP!!!

Ooops sorry if so!!

I am actually so irritated by the behaviour of supposed grown-ass women who don't have a clue what they're talking about!!

Wow. You're doubling down on your ignorance and bully-apologising. You seem to have no shame at all.

I am a dinner lady and have to change into and out my uniform in work. We are not allowed out of work with uniform for hygiene reasons. Also not allowed to have nails done, piercings, jewellery, heavy make up or eyelash extensions.

Maybe some people could remove their tongues from their saucers of milk for a minute, and take the word of someone who knows what they're actually talking about?

Also suitable footwear, for safety reasons.

inappropriateraspberry · 26/09/2023 18:29

The staff room at my children's school is connected to the reception desk/office and has a big window overlooking the preschool garden! Would love to see the dinner lady changing in there 😆

Getting kind of tired of unpleasant people pretending that they aren't. Just own it because no one is buying it

@Fallingthroughclouds given some of the names you've called pps on here, are you going to practise what you preach?

You're the one doubling down on your ignorance. Maybe you should check out the definition of 'bullying' while you are at it?

Might have known the vitriol would turn on me for shining a light at the dreadful behaviour of some posters. Luckily I don't care.

I have never worked in a kitchen but I do work closely with catering managers, so I know what the rules are.

Dinnerlady12 · 26/09/2023 16:23

Although sometimes if I'm late leaving work I will throw my hoodie on and rush to collect my daughter from school still wearing my work trousers and shoes. If I was caught doing this I'd be in trouble.

A direct quote from a lady who does know what she is talking about.

I work in a care home and we are strictly forbidden to come to work or go home in uniform. Most hospital staff are the same. It is completely inappropriate and they should change into uniform when they get to work. In fact I'm surprised they don't have 2 lots of uniform one for dealing with food and another for the rest of the time. Frankly it's a little lazy and raises the risk of cross contamination. They could be changing babies nappies or scrubbing the loo before coming to work!

And another...

Oh but you do and you've been equally vitriolic, in fact you have instigated a lot of it. So please don't trip over your halo when you clamber down off that pedestal you have put yourself on.

I am not in the slightest bit interested in what you believe.

A small coffee shop is totally different to catering for hundreds of children.

I suggest you read the posts from people who do work in school kitchens, and just admit you have it wrong.

Ah so a care home and hospital is the same as a kitchen now is it. Give me strength. In regards to your other trawling and quoting, establishments can create they own rules and bylaws so to speak.

Catering staff can and do get changed into their uniform at work rather than wearing it to work and bosses absolutely have these best practice policies in place for hygiene reasons. Aprons are only one part of your PPE and certainly don't solely protect food from contamination.

And another...

Absolutely not. I am taking the bullies on! The poems, the name calling, the putdowns... horrible, all of it.

I'm not defending anything. I am taking issue with the way this OP has been castigated, and however she has gone about it, the fact remains that school catering staff are supposed to get changed in work. I know this for fact.

mayorofcasterbridge · 26/09/2023 18:49

Dinnerlady12 · 26/09/2023 16:29

We have a staff room/toilet no lockers. I start and finish before everyone else so I don't have to change in front of anyone but I have worked in other schools (some of which have lockers) where everyone has to change in front of each other and wasn't comfortable with it. This is the rules over all the schools in my area. I am employed by the council not the school so all the rules are the same in every school in the area. I'm not sure how other council's do it.

^ this.
