@ThunderclapCloud
@petalpower
@autumnangel

@RunningKatie
@LateSummerLobelia
@Aria999
@Mumtobabyhavoc

and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

It’s pretty tough to be honest @FrostyFogg . I’m away at dad and stepmother’s until the start of next week. I’m struggling with it all. A very challenging situation.

FrostyFogg · 28/01/2024 06:45

I'm so sorry but not surprised it's so challenging @petalpower 💕 My very best wishes to you. I am hoping you are able to get some time alone to rest and recharge- even brief moments 💐

FrostyFogg · 28/01/2024 12:42

I hope everyone is ok today! We've been for a lovely long walk with DD and her DH and their dog. Spoken to our boy on the phone, and now I'm prepping veg for this evening's roast.
I have a list on our board reminding me to de-cobweb and do another larder shelf. I also wiped down the paintwork around the downstairs doors. DH has been to the tip. I fluttered my eyelashes at him in a very non-MN girly fashion because I really don't like dealing with it, though I will if I must! He's been rewarded with a cup of tea and a custard cream

Hoping you're all having a good weekend and thinking of the poorly people and sending positive thoughts xx

RunningKatie · 28/01/2024 17:52

Evening all! I'm fighting the germs at last and winning. So I'm celebrating with a small gin. DC1 has been out to the cinema, DC2 has accompanied us to visit the grandparents. Few areas of concern there, DH always seems to leave the room when things go a little weird and then I have to debrief him on the journey home. Given that it's his parents this is somewhat frustrating.
Just organised personalised cards for a birthday, an extravagance I wouldn't normally condone but DC1 is turning 13. Eeeek!
Hope baby is ok @Mumtobabyhavoc - such a worry when they are tiny.
Am glad to read that we're a thread of procrastinators, I've written a list for this year and lost it already so that's going well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/01/2024 21:20

Hello everyone ☺️
Had a touch of insomnia last night and found myself doing two loads laundry starting at 10:30pm; Watching a doc about Celine Dion's career and medical condition; and having a roast chicken sandwich on croissant with a slice of double chocolate banana bread afterward. Got into bed at 2am.
Baby's fever continues to hover around 38.1-38.4c. Giving Tylenol here and there when looking uncomfortable. Doctor/hospital ruled out bacterial infection via blood amd urine tests and confirmed rsv by swab. We were back home Friday afternoon.
Havoc and I are still coughing; my mum has fallen sick with it, too.

Glad to har some here/family on our thread are recovering from being ill. Aria, I like your style of celwbrating worh a gin. 😀
Petal, I'm sorry you're having a rough time. It's so hard when are parents afe. A lot of different emotions and grieving are involved as well. Offering you support and a hand hold from here. 🩷💐

Delivered a tiramisu and a gift to a friend yesterday who one-upped me by offering a bed frame for Havoc and a tv for me as they have just bought new. Friends since we were teens. Went shopping after to look for some clothes for Havoc who had just gone through a growth spurt in the past month.

Tasks for today: put together new baby bassinet/bed/play yard combo; more laundry; then make dinner.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/01/2024 21:34

Excuse the typos. Wanted to correct, but edit option not on pop up list. 🤔

Aria999 · 28/01/2024 23:25

Sprout soup maybe @FrostyFogg ?!

Hope things settle down a bit with your dad @petalpower , it does sound tough for you at the moment 😢

So productive @Mumtobabyhavoc even when you are sick and have a sick baby. Well deserved double chocolate banana bread (mmmm).

I have been tired all day, probably a combination of lingering cold and a bit too much to drink last night (DH work colleague came for dinner and was good fun). Today is day 3 of virtually no voice.

Took the kids to a birthday party today and just could not get up the energy to talk to other parents I didn't know. Feel old and haggard. Had kids late and am getting uncomfortable about everyone else being 10+ years younger, it didn't used to show but it's starting to.

Over the weekend also finally changed the sheets, cleaned the kitchen floor (thanks @WinterLobelia) and practiced my new faintly bohemian multi colored darning technique on some of the kids clothes with holes in (they enjoyed picking the colors).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2024 00:39

Awww Aria, sorry you're feeling crap and a bit low. 💐

WinterLobelia · 29/01/2024 05:48

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well. So sorry to hear that baby and havoc are all still poorly @Mumtobabyhavoc Hope everyone is better soon.

And for everyone who is still unwell. @Aria999 ; @RunningKatie (glad you are on the mend) ; @TawnyT and everyone.

Thanks to @petalpower - such a strain you are under.

Waves and ❤to @FrostyFogg @SpiritOfEdna @Peridot1 @SingleThreadJoiner and anyone I missed.

I am up due to coughing and DH has been tasked with going to fetch covid tests when the supermarkets open (and before school!) as whatever I have does not feel like my usual cold. I am very tired but generally okay. Home related stuff has gone to pot of course although I did still manage to sweep my kitchen floor a couple of times! The kitchen is tiny enough that it takes approx 20 seconds. Actually I should time it. I think 20 seconds would be if I do it twice. I have spent stupid amounts of time browsing MN and done nothing of real value. I don't feel ill just cough-y and weary.

I hope everyone has a good day and that everyone ill is soon better.

FrostyFogg · 29/01/2024 08:25

I've written a list and lost it already so that's going well

Sorry@RunningKatie but that really made me laugh! With you...not at you, as it's the sort of thing I do! I am glad you're feeling a bit better and able to celebrate with a gin! Is the grandparent weirdness a new thing?

@Mumtobabyhavoc you do have very productive insomnia! I imagine you are on high alert with baby having been so poorly. I hope you and your family all bounce back soon. I hope you are getting enough rest and baby/toddler cuddles too!

@Aria999 sorry you're feeling low 😔 Funnily enough I was chatting to DS yesterday and he said he felt low all day on Saturday after an evening out with a meal and a few drinks. He was bemoaning the fact that he can no longer cope with alcohol in the way that he once did ( and as it was his birthday he was feeling old and haggard too) Following up with a party at soft play would be a step too far for many of us I think, so you're entirely normal if that's any consolation 💐

@WinterLobelia I just swept my kitchen floor with the flat mop, picked up the debris with dustpan, and stirred the porridge in 25 seconds 😂 You are an inspiration! My kitchen floor has never been so clean! I hope you feel better soon 💐

Hello 👋 to everyone else. How are the travel plans going @Peridot1 ?

My cobweb etc list is still on the board with nothing to show for it. I think I peaked last Thursday and Friday when I did lots round the place. Back to project thread-level procrastination now it seems.

Right, wordle, connections and breakfast then on with the day!

TawnyT · 29/01/2024 09:05

Morning all!

@WinterLobelia that thread about the 3 year old AIBU did make me chuckle, it's made some of DDs unreasonable moments this weekend a little easier as I imaging how her AIBU would go 😅 sorry to hear you're feeling poorly too!

@Mumtobabyhavoc v impressed with your productivity while struggling to sleep/recovering/looking after poorly ones! Hope baby is faring batter today.

I'm definitely coming past the worst of it all now, as is DD, just a lingering cough. I might follow @RunningKaties lead with a drink tonight to celebrate feeling relatively normal again!

We managed our visit with friends over the weekend, they were also just over a cold of some sort so we probably just swapped germs 🙄 but it was lovely to see them, and their DS and DD played so well together. Also managed a few dog walks, cleared thr garden of dog poo, bought new shoes for DD, kept of top of the kitchen, and made a huge mac & cheese.

Today I'm planning lots of focused work time (reflected of the chat last week about procrastinating so actively trying to stop that!)

Plus...

  • tidy DDs bedroom
  • tidy spare room and change the sheets (doggo has taken to sleeping in there so they're covered in fur and mud 🙈 must also buy a throw for said dog to sleep on in future)
  • sort DDs clothes to swap (we do a clothing rental and she's outgrown a few bits)

Thinking of all those still poorly! This time of year is just the worst for it, fingers crossed everyone's on the mend.

Peridot1 · 29/01/2024 09:32

Morning all.

Your insomnia is not like mine @Mumtobabyhavoc! I’m pretty useless and just toss and turn and sigh a lot. Although I do tend to fall asleep ok but sometimes wake up in the night and can’t get back to sleep. Don’t think DH and DS would be impressed if I got up and started doing things. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

@petalpower hope things settle down with your Dad. It’s so stressful dealing with it all.

@Aria999 I had DS late too and felt that age gap quite a bit. Noticing it more now too as some friends my age are starting to have grandchildren and as DS is only 22 that won’t be happening here yet. If ever.

@RunningKatie - I do that with lists too! Spend ages writing them out only to lose them.

@WinterLobelia - hope it’s not Covid. The tiredness is a real sign you need to rest.

@FrostyFogg - travel plans going ok. Need to start sorting clothes etc. Need to contact a few friends to arrange meeting up. PS - Wordle took me ages this morning!

@TawnyT - a clothing rental sounds like such a good idea.

I didn’t do much over the weekend. Well normal daily chores were done. Did DS’s washing as he heads back to Dublin today after being here for two months.

Today’s list:

  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • vacuum
  • gym
  • laundry
  • do brain dump list
  • figure out what I want added to DH’s supermarket delivery (and what he needs to cancel with DS leaving as he will forget)
  • tidy spare bedroom
  • start sorting clothes for my holiday

We will be having some work done in the house when I get back which will mean packing a lot of stuff away and emptying cupboards etc so I want to get started on that this week rather than leave it all till I get back.

SingleThreadJoiner · 29/01/2024 13:00

Hello everyone

@Mumtobabyhavoc glad baby is out of hospital and doesn't have a bacterial infection, though RSV when they are tiny is still unpleasant. Sending warm thoughts to you, and @petalpower with her struggles, and everyone with the lurgy...we seemed to have finally cleared it after a bit over a week. For now.....

I'm not sure why I disappeared - Friday was busy with work, but also managed to go to a pilates class - and the weekend was a mix of activities, endless playing witht the D, and the mad tidying pre-hosting the friends yesterday afternoon. I concede it was quite helpful tidying - took the opportunity to properly straighten out a few shelves and corners, throw some stuff away (e.g. the uninteresting and unimpressive 'art' that D brings home from school and afterschool club), dust and so on.

Main things I ought to do today are go to the post office (though that requires me to wrap the two things that need to be posted, which makes it less appealing 😅) and maybe meal plan...but right now I just feel like I want a nap! Maybe after a quick lunch...

Hope the covid tests are negative @WinterLobelia !

WinterLobelia · 29/01/2024 19:08

Evening everyone. Hope everyone is fine and well.

We are officially the House of Plague. Covid me, most likely covid DH as although he tested negative so far he became really ill over the course of the day and less obviously ill but very sweaty Dcs. I feel loads better though and have been holding the fort. Changed all bedclothes so everyone can get into a fresh bed, ordered takeaway delivery to be left outside the door and did a load of ironing.

I actually feel quite well today but am starting to fade. Everyone else is in bed so I might shower and then follow their lead.

Oh! I timed my kitchen sweep. 17.6 seconds. I felt quite proud of my little compact kitchen! I think a quick detour into a porridge stir would have taken it to about @FrostyFogg 's 25 seconds. Smile

Hope everyone has a great evening. xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/01/2024 21:37

Oh, no Winter! 🤦‍♀️ I hope all of you will not become too ill and recover quickly. 💐💐💐

Aria999 · 29/01/2024 22:07

Yikes @WinterLobelia ! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for everyone!

Aria999 · 30/01/2024 02:37

That's interesting @Peridot1 yes I can see that happening to me! It doesn't help that we moved city so I don't have many mum
friends with DS8 and there's a group where their 2-4 year olds are the first kid. Dd is 4 on Saturday and I was 42 when she was born...

FrostyFogg · 30/01/2024 07:48

Morning! Sorry to hear about the plague. Don't overdo things too fast! @WinterLobelia
I just took 45 seconds to do the kitchen because I got the flat mop stuck under the freezer! Nevertheless less I'm delighted to have a daily prompt to do it at all ☺
@SingleThreadJoiner the daily project way with parcels seems to go like this for several of us:
Day 1 -Realise something needs sending
Day 2- try to find the wrapping etc
Days 3-5 - procrastinate
Day 6 - wrap the parcels
Days 6-11 leave them in a prominent place so they don't get forgotten.
Approx day 12 - make it to the post office.

Any better than that and you're on a winning streak!

Thinking of our @petalpower this morning 💕

@Peridot1 did you previously live in Australia?

I have a cheque to bank today because my silly app/phone won't take an acceptable picture. I will queue in the post office as there are no longer any banks within a ten mile radius. Thinking about going for a swim at lunchtime. I finally did the cobwebs yesterday and cleaned the bathroom 😇

Today: Post office
Kitchen windows
Change sheets etc
Buy insoles for my new wellies

It's flylady plan and play day, so I'm going to brain dump and write some lists first.

All the best to you all ☕

SpiritOfEdna · 30/01/2024 10:47

Morning all, why are we still in January? It seems never ending! Even Feb has an extra day.....
Today, very busy work day, but I need to get something productive done house-wise as well:

  • gym session - DONE
  • walk the dog
  • buy poo bags - DONE
  • need to look at tonight's 'Dance Yourself Fit' practise steps
  • try out a new mop - it might radically let us get rid of the mop bucket which is always left full of manky water - lovely 😄
  • track delivery of a book to my GNephew
  • curtains still not done, at least I should cut off the eyelet holes today - top 4 inches
  • find a handyman for some electrical stuff that needs fixing, buy a ring doorbell -
  • wash the other curtains so they can be stored.
Feel some of this may be a repeat from previous lists, which I didn't do... Have a good day all, SoE

Hello! I'm off work this afternoon to get my hair done. Should have a spare hour afterwards so I'm planning on grabbing a coffee and doing some work on my etsy shop before picking up DD.

Finished yesterday's tasks this morning... tidied DDs room, changed spare bed, and just about to sort through her clothes. Also did a quick kitchen clean. Have cards to post my parents and PIL too.

And gym class booked for tonight 💪

Hope everyone is managing ok today. It does feel like January has lasted forever @SpiritOfEdna I'm ready for springtime now!

petalpower · 30/01/2024 15:17

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. I’m back home again after my trip away. It was lovely to sleep in
my own bed last night and have a bit of normality. I’m just sitting waiting for DD to have the next of her travel vaccinations and have bought an unnecessary dress online from Marks and Spencer. There was a lot to do at home when I got back as DH has the knack of not noticing things. Today I’ve been out to my aqua fit class, posted an eBay parcel, been the butchers, paid extra tax for auntie as HMRC has calculated a bit more than the accountant, hung the washing out and brought it in again (the weather was worse than the forecast) and driven DD to Boots for her vaccination.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/01/2024 18:19

Petal, hope you can get a bit of rest.

I'm in hosp with baby. We were admitted last night from emerg. Have had just a few hrs broken sleep, so brain isn't retaining much to allow me to properly comment on updates here. 😵‍💫 Off the top of my head:
I can relate to procrastinating about sending parcels: bought two sets of baby clothes to send as gifts, didn't send, babies have outgrown, now keeping for my baby, need to shop for new gifts!
Wondering what kind if gym session was booked. Personal training?

RunningKatie · 30/01/2024 21:03

Oh @Mumtobabyhavoc - how worrying for you, sending best wishes your way. Hoping for better news soon, get well baby Havoc.

Hope the covid germs don't linger too long @WinterLobelia.

I've had PT today, and also loafed about quite a lot as I've had the day off work. We get our birthday off which is nice but there's a limit to what you can do that is exciting on a dark damp Tuesday in January, on your own and within school hours!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/01/2024 21:51

Katie, it's a bit late now but I'd say gym, spa for facial, then a nice lunch with a big piece of cake and the best cup of coffee I could get, watch a rom com/nap uninterrupted (priceless!); or a wander through an art gallery... or, get my hair done, shop for make-up (mascara is my weakness); pop into a gourmet chocolate shop to buy some pieces for me only which I'd eat window shopping (love looking at expensive jewellery) ...

Lately, "me time" is when I run errands/grocery shop alone. 😂😂😂
iykyk. 🤷‍♀️

Happy Birthday to you! 🥳🥳🥳
