@peridot1
@ThunderclapCloud
@petalpower
@autumnangel

@RunningKatie
@LateSummerLobelia
@Aria999
@Mumtobabyhavoc

and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

I'm horrified by schools requesting sick notes at all! And particularly for a child who was sick enough to be sent home yesterday @Aria999 I hope he feels better soon!

Best wishes to you all! Things have been a little bit fraught around here and I don't have the spoons to comment much but I'm reading posts and still enjoying the updates.

Today I need to reset the place and do things like change the bed, laundry, put bits away. If I really get on a roll I'll clean the fridge!

Was so windy yesterday! Pleased it's dropped this morning.

Ed for typo

Hope everything is ok @FrostyFogg especially with your mum. Flowers

Thank you @petalpower 💐 Nothing is really wrong, I'm just feeling like the jam in a sandwich once again! Sometimes things all hit at once, don't they? I'm hoping a day pottering about at home, and possibly a leg stretch later with DH, will set me straight 😊

SpiritOfEdna · 07/02/2024 10:27

morning, a less busy work day so can get some stuff done.
Today

  • take some photos requested by electrician
  • give mirror second coat of paint, it's dried looking streaky
  • water plants
  • tidy work desk
  • prep food for tea
  • doggo needs a walk and a bath
  • need to do an online shop - cupboards are looking rather bare
that's all for today, have a good day all, SoE

Hi all.

Sorry to hear you are having stresses and strains @FrostyFogg hope the walk with DH went well.

Hope everyone is well. I agree about the sick notes @Aria999 - the burden is great and poor DS. Thanks

@SpiritOfEdna your lists of achievements are always inspiring!

Had a mixed day here. My car was a victim of a hit and run while innocently minding its own business in the Tesco carpark while I shopped. I am going to ask tesco if they have any cctv of it but do not hold out much hope.

I have sent 3 e-mails I have been putting off and have an appointment booked with our accountant which I have also been putting off.

I have decluttered 15 minutes. And planted some saxifrage in an empty border. Spent £82.00 on pots and hellebores as well.

Made chicken korma and tarkha dal for dinner.

DH is doing the school run as he feels better and I am now doing the pre-cleaner tidy.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening and day.

Thanks
FrostyFogg · 07/02/2024 16:42

Today has gone rather well 😊

Dinner organised early ✅
A bit of communication with various family to, ummmm, sync (?) diaries. I'm sure there is a word there that I'm looking for 🤔 Specifically mum, because she has quite the social life but a failing memory and a tendency to get dates wrong, but includes sibs and DC - I sometimes need to remind ADHD child of things that she needs to do or places she must go! Despite not living in the same house! ✅
Bedsheets ✅
Plants watered ✅ Thank you @SpiritOfEdna for the reminder. ADHD child is not the only airhead in the family 😳
Bank cheque ❎I am on day 11!
Hoovered ✅
Bathroom is clean ✅

Best wishes to all!

FrostyFogg · 07/02/2024 16:48

Positive day for you @WinterLobelia (we cross posted!) Sorry about the car though. Solidarity though - I came across an unexpectedly closed road (lane) and my 3 point turn involved me reversing into the village memorial cross. Fortunately I hit the low posts surrounding it so only damaged the car (slightly) I did not see the post and neither did my reversing sensors. I hope you have cct footage from Tesco.

WinterLobelia · 07/02/2024 17:12

I'm glad you bumped the posts and did not actually knock over the war memorial @FrostyFogg !! Solidarity indeed. Hope the car is not too bad. Thanks

FrostyFogg · 07/02/2024 17:36

Argh can you imagine the shame for knocking over a war memorial 😳 I'd never live it down. I was in full view of a coachload of school children too, which is why I couldn't just go round the blasted thing. Their driver was on the phone presumably trying to figure out which way to go so she could drop her rural-living kids off 🙈

WinterLobelia · 07/02/2024 19:09

I confess @FrostyFogg I was imagining the local paper headlines; 'Local Woman Demolishes Beloved War Memorial With Car. Blames Highway Authority'.

😅

That's how it would be reported in our village paper anyway.

I am almost ready for the cleaner. DH says the main purpose of hiring a cleaner is so you clean the house yourself once a week. I am now doing a load of ironing and need to put another wash on.

Best wishes to everyone. Smile

FrostyFogg · 07/02/2024 19:30

You just made me laugh out loud @WinterLobelia and I had to explain that I'd written about it on the interweb 😂 He was a right grumpy git about it when I got home. He's harmless and it always passes - I view my car as a workhorse and expect the odd bump, and he would love a perpetually pristine car. I told him in that case he'd better trade me in, but he told me I'm better than the last one so he'll put up with me.
Anyway he wanted to know if I'd written about him, and I said no as I hadn't at that point 😂
He's happy now as I fed him and now he's washing up while i run myself a bubbly bath. Very fond of the grumpy old bugger ♥

FrostyFogg · 07/02/2024 19:40

My mum had a cleaner when I was a child, and I used to put everything on my bed. I hated her going in my room as I reached teenage years, but it never occurred to me to clean it myself. Spoilt brat I was, I now realise! As I don't have a cleaner, I rely on inviting ie my daughter's in-laws, and that really does get me scurrying about! All my friends have known me for too long a we know exactly how we all live! But having worked in the homes of many people, i am very confident that I (all of us here I'm sure) fall well within the realms of normal 💕

WinterLobelia · 07/02/2024 19:50

Enjoy your well-deserved bath @FrostyFogg 🤗

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/02/2024 21:04

Good giggles here today. 😊

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2024 04:58

Laundry in, floors washed, bathroom cleaned. 👍

Haven't touched the stack of mail I've been meaning to get to...mañana, mañana... 🤷‍♀️

FrostyFogg · 08/02/2024 08:29

Morning! Realised that DH was referred to as 'he' throughout. Apaling gramer! But that is who I meant.
Delighted to hear you are not perfect either @Mumtobabyhavoc But impressed with other achievements you made while we we're all sleeping (or tossing, turning and sighing for us oldies!)

I am still in bed, in an empty house, listening to rain falling. It is wonderful! I'm about to do a thing that I never do, which is to put the telly on and re watch the second half of silent witness, because I can't remember how it ended. I never watch TV in the day (parental conditioning) but it's no worse than wasting an hour scrolling mumsnet.

At some point I will bank that blasted cheque (not even a big one) And I will ring my mother but carers and a brother are in charge today. I am also going to visit my pony friends.

Tidied up yesterday so I will pretend I'm the cleaner and do something useful this afternoon before DH gets home. Dinner yesterday was a cook once, eat twice affair, so just need to put jacket potatoes in later.

Tomorrow will be busy so I might even prepare food for the evening. That would be organised and my future self will thank me!

I very much hope you and all your families are getting over the illnesses. Soon be half term (round here anyway) Is our @Peridot1 off on her travels yet? And also Miss Petalpower? Best wishes for a happy and productive day to you all! ☕

Peridot1 · 08/02/2024 09:31

Morning all.

I am still here @FrostyFogg. I leave on Monday. So I am getting busy getting organised and not getting very far for some reason!

I haven’t managed to post for a couple of days for some reason but just had a nice catch up read of what you have all been up to. Sorry for car issues and war memorial demolition issues!

We are having friends over for dinner tonight so today is shopping and getting sorted for that. I’m cooking which DH is not used to and it’s making him twitchy. Apparently I need to do a time plan so he can see where and when he needs to do things.

So today’s list:

  • dishwasher (done)
  • time plan
  • laundry
  • supermarket shop
  • gym
  • general tidy around
  • cook!

Have a great day all.

TawnyT · 08/02/2024 10:33

Morning all! Didn't check in yesterday as I was in london all day but skimmed everyones posts and looks like some very productive days were had (apart from the 3 point turn gone awry - oops 🙈)

My work presentation yesterday was a bit of a flop, nothing wrong on my part but the meeting turned into a back and forth between my manager and the CTO and nothing actually got decided upon so I am no further along with my project than before... so I have zero motivation for any work stuff today and will be mostly cleaning the house instead 😄

To do today..
-clean kitchen
-tidy toys in DDs room and living room
-walk doggo
-tidy and hoover office

WinterLobelia · 08/02/2024 11:58

Hi all.

I hope you have a safe and most enjoyable trip @Peridot1 ! Hopefully you will get some decent warmth.

How frustrating about your presentation @TawnyT . Hope you don't feel too despondent. Thanks

best wishes to everyone.

Our cleaner has been and gone. It's awful weather here so I will do a bit more decluttering inside and also re-pot one of the houseplants that has been struggling a bit. I also need to finish my book for bookclub which is tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2024 13:27

frosty, I definitely have horrible skeletons in my closet! I've been twitchy myself lately about getting some particular tasks done. I tend to procrastinate by doing other tasks, the ones you can see. 🤷‍♀️
Cooked down lamb chops in tomato (pasta) sauce for dinner last night and can still smell it. It's not offensive, but it's bothering me... must air out kitchen later.
(ugh, the things that stop us falling back asleep at 5:30am...)🤦‍♀️

FrostyFogg · 08/02/2024 13:35

Hi @TawnyT one of the things i love most about mumsnet is the little things i have learnt on the way. Eg i had no idea what a CTO is, so i googled it. I really love the snapshots into peoples lives, and I've opened my mind to different perspectives. I am extremely naive about the many careers out there as I've said before. I mainly engage on this thread though hop onto others as and when, especially tv and wordle ones! But I read a lot. am very impressed at people who can do presentations though years ago I used to teach horse riding and so I do have experience in working with groups. Classroom or work settings so much more daunting though.

👋 @Periodot I hope you have a lovely evening! Is DH still micromanaging?

My little bump has been quoted £600 to fix. DH is all about the bump causing the value of the car to fall, but I'm all like, (using my SD's vocal patterns here 😂) the car isn't new babes,

it's a workhorse, I always keep my cars till they fall to bits and it's a tiny bump anyway.

I think he's wondering now why he didn't stick with the ex (tbf she ran off with another man and didn't leave him with much choice!) Ex at least understood the importance of not reversing into village memorials, and probably didn't squeeze her vehicle into hedges like I do. But she also didn't pay for her own car. Yes ladies, it's my bloody car he's complaining about (I daren't drive his, at least not when I am having a fraught week 😂) Also he doesn't like mud in his car, and with my lifestyle, mud is a non negotiable, though i don't bring it into the house!

It's very rainy here too @WinterLobelia! I'm just back in and am about to have a bit to eat then roll up my sleeves and behave in a proper housewifely fashion.

BRB 💐 ♥

FrostyFogg · 08/02/2024 13:39

'My cars' sounds like I have several! Just one at a time, just mean I don't change till I have to. And I genuinely don't make a habit of pranging the car either - I'm perfectly competent in the main and am also capable of towing caravans and transporting horses in lorries safely so far anyway!)

Evening! We were in the amber area for snow, and how we laughed at 9am when it was raining. By midday dc1 was home, and we were allowed to fetch dc2 although school was not officially closed. Obviously not laughing quite so much by that point, sledges were deployed for the school run!
My PT has been cancelled as has dh's hippy class. So excellent slothing around the house is being done by one and all.
I've just sorted a railcard out, and then I need to go and help dh measure up for rearranging our bedroom.

petalpower · 09/02/2024 07:29

No snow here just lots of rain and the ditches are all full to the top again.
Popping on here quickly here to say good morning before I take Petaldog out for his walk. All a bit stressful with my dad who now has a UTI and is quite unwell. The doctor came out to see him at home yesterday and he should have antibiotics today. His dementia is much worse as a result. Yesterday I was trying to support from a distance (I’m 3 hours drive away)and try to keep stepmother calm and my brother up to date whilst he was at work. He is local to dad but is very busy. I’m going for a cut and colour today so am hoping for a quieter and more relaxing day than yesterday.
Have a great day everyone!
