Did anyone see Politics Live yesterday? There was a weird interaction that I had to go back and watch again to make sure I'd heard right.

Jo was asking about the optics of Starmer meeting Macron. One of the guests said that he would be at a conference soon where he was pencilled in to meet Trudeaux but the big prize would be getting to meet Biden.

Jo then asked the Tory guest, Danny Kruger, if it was humiliating for Sunak that Starmer was being received by world leaders like this. He said that the more the public see Starmer cosying up with the likes of Trudeaux, Biden 'the ancient relic of the left' and Macron, the more they'll realise what they're dealing with.

I'm thinking they'll realise they're dealing with a statesmen who can and will work collaboratively with our allies but I don't think that's what Kruger was trying to imply.

Cornettoninja · 15/09/2023 16:43

Kruger is obviously still beating the xenophobic Brexit drum where rule Britannia can still create an oasis with no need for relationships in the wider world. Y’know. Like North Korea.

from my perspective it highlights Rishi’s cowardice whenever he’s required for international diplomatic duties.

😬 it's never good news is it.

Hmmm. If it's a political sex scandal, it's not going to be Boris, because that would just be more of the same. Unless it's to do with the appointment of a certain young lady to the House of Lords? Sunak is probably too careful. I'm hoping for something that gets rid of Braverman.

DuncinToffee · 15/09/2023 16:49

Truss' book is something along the same lines, Biden is bad for the UK or something.

Meanwhile the Conservatives' London mayoral candidate Susan Hall has liked tweets that praise Enoch Powell and endorse Islamophobia against Sadiq Khan

I saw that. I don't think it's going to do her prospects any good at all, which is good news,

IClaudine · 15/09/2023 15:02

Have you seen this? Could it be a political sex scandal of some kind? 🧐

bnonews.com/index.php/2023/09/channel-4-saturday-night-special-metoo/

I just came on to see if we knew what this may be. There is word the Sunday Times has a bit of a scoop this weekend too. Wonder if they are connected?

DuncinToffee · 15/09/2023 18:02

It's gone a bit quiet on Dan Wootton but Bylines just reposted their article

ST are still looking into their Chinese spy scoop too. They haven’t identified the second man that was arrested yet.

That wouldn’t be to do with metoo though.

jgw1 · 15/09/2023 18:36

Perhaps it will provide us with a title for thread 30?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 15/09/2023 19:02

Krishnan Guru-Murthy has now deleted his 'something's up' tweet about the Dispatches scheduling due to the sensitive nature of the programme ... ?

pointythings · 15/09/2023 19:03

I'm hoping that whatever is about to break over the weekend will inspire me.
Meanwhile have a random cat photo just because I can. (This is our latest addition).

I'm hoping against hope that it's a special report on the (imaginary) agreement Russia has just signed agreeing to pull out of Ukraine with immediate effect.

AdamRyan · 15/09/2023 19:33

Beautiful cat pointy 😍

Cornettoninja · 15/09/2023 19:46

Oh @pointythings what a beauty he is (is it a he or she?). That’s a cat with opinions. Grin

Re:dispatches - I’ve seen some rumblings that it’s going to be about 80’s/90’s comedians along the lines of me too. Rumblings don’t mean anything of course but it’s plausible.

Agree.

pointythings · 15/09/2023 19:57

@AdamRyan my sympathies to you. Mine is Jungle Matt.

@Cornettoninja he is indeed a boy and he is very opinionated. He is of the opinion that all food is his. He's insanely strong and energetic and a complete cuddle monster. We've had him just shy of 8 weeks and he's finally getting along with my other 4. He eats Tories for breakfast.

BIossomtoes · 15/09/2023 20:30

Better move him into Downing Street @pointythings.

pointythings · 15/09/2023 20:31

@Blossomtoes I'm not sure Larry could handle him, he's only 2 and he plays rough.

BIossomtoes · 15/09/2023 20:35

He’s very beautiful.

Notonthestairs · 15/09/2023 20:39

Oh he's gorgeous. Very regal.

DuncinToffee · 15/09/2023 20:47

You have beautiful cats Pointy

We don't need a coup, just send a cat army to Downing Street

I'd give you both sympathies.

But mines Braverman!
