I haven't got time to go on that thread but I see I can 'France is a safe country' and 'we can't house them' cross off my bingo card

It's like they think France should take them all and we shouldn't take our fair share.

It's almost processing them in France to make sure they are shared out is a stupid idea.

But also Germany is safe, Italy is safe and many of the other countries they pass through on their way. But they should all stop at France!

IClaudine · 14/09/2023 16:36

That thread is just unspeakably awful.

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/09/2023 16:43

Those threads are always unspeakably awful.

Piggywaspushed · 14/09/2023 16:53

It's depressing but they post deliberately to show people are motivated by the small boat issue. When you unpick it there are maybe one or two repeat posters filling the thread up with the unspeakable awfulness..

Yes

And they will keep doing it under different names.

I am enjoying that they were unaware of the island of Ireland common travel area and that it is possible to charter a yacht in any number of ports along the coast and sail to and from France, Holland, Belgium and so on with no passport controls.

Notonthestairs · 14/09/2023 18:16

Sensible level headed thread on Lab's approach to the EU. It's not perfect but it's better to be at the negotiating table trying to influence than it is to be outside talking to yourself (heaven knows we can see where that has led us to).

"There’s a predictable avalanche of disinformation and hypocrisy in the DTel, Sun etc today on @Keir_Starmer hopes of a “migrant returns agreement with the EU” if/when he becomes PM 1/"

Well you have managed to ruffle their feathers big time Grin You have been upgraded from a communist to el chapo

Are you a sailor jgw1?

I do sometimes go sailing.

This has confounded some of them.

Its quite entertained me.

jgw1 · 14/09/2023 19:39

It'll blow their minds I think if I point out that on some trips other people have paid me for the skills I have to go sailing.

Grin it doesn't take a lot to blow their minds.

I have a cousing who owns a sailing yacht but she sticks to Dutch waters as it is quite old (traditional Dutch botter)

It is all the same old rubbish on that thread. Meanwhile on another thread Jamie Oliver is responsible for worsening people's lives, not spotting Rolf Harris was a bad 'un and for not solving childhood obesity.

MN seems particularly batshit right now and I think it is little better than a troll farm these days (this thread excepted!).

Edited

I agree. It makes me sad

Jeez, that thread is nasty.

Does it actually help persuade people that ones argument is right to be that rude?

LittleBowSheep · 14/09/2023 22:06

What an embarrassing performance by Carole Malone. Totally out of her depth so she behaves like a sulky 5 year old.

How many is that now? More to come I suspect.

I think the last two weeks have been a real change in tone. Labour have stepped up a gear.

Jesus, that thread! I don’t know where some of you find the patience but you’ve done a sterling job.

Notonthestairs · 15/09/2023 07:47

Michael Gove’s flagship renters’ reform bill, which would end “no-fault” evictions in England (and was a 2019 manifesto pledge) has again been put on ice

  • sparking a furious blame game in government over why it keeps being delayed

Of the 87 MPs who made money from residential properties in England, most (68) are Conservatives while 16 are Labour MPs, two are Liberal Democrats and one is a member of the SNP

(via @38degrees )

what is striking is that the government has a huge majority and could easily pass this - with Labour backing if necessary - but is worried about the optics of a backbench rebellion

x.com/pickardje/status/1702435842331943387?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Conservatives can't trust their backbenchers to stick to a manifesto pledge surprise!

I am just lost as to why anyone would think it illegal for a doctor to see a child without their parents present.
