Soo I’ve just had a call from our letting agent went to voicemail as I was on a call and my fucking husband hasn’t paid the rent for the last 2 months….

The bastard is at work and his phone has been switched off

I don’t have the money to pay it all - I did wonder why he had some extra money

We have separate accounts he pays rent etc I pay other bills it all works out fair

I am so bloody angry I daren’t phone the letting agent back and I’m off to check his emails 😡😡😡

Does he have form?

RaidFlySpray · 10/08/2023 09:35

That's awful! Do you have any idea why?

KateyCuckoo · 10/08/2023 09:36

Is he definitely at work?

I'd be incandescent with rage what a monumentally stupid thing to do!

Has he got any form for being so irresponsible?

RentNotPaid · 10/08/2023 09:37

No he doesn’t which is why I am so shocked.

He earns well has a reasonable salary paid monthly (as do I) we’ve been paying down our debt considerably (he was made redundant during covid and it screwed us over till he found a new one)

😱 What on earth is going to be his excuse?!

RentNotPaid · 10/08/2023 09:37

Before he switched his phone off his find my iPhone was at work I know they had a big meeting this morning.

Are you sure it's not a mistake. We once had a letting agent call us to say ground rent had t been paid. It had just the reference was slightly wrong. Just take a breath and ask him calmly first. Just in case

YourNameGoesHere · 10/08/2023 09:39

Does he always turn his phone off at work, that seems odd?

Also has he any history with gambling etc to suddenly stop paying with no history is very unusual?

TheDuchessOfMN · 10/08/2023 09:39

I agree, my first thought would be that it must be a mistake.

RentNotPaid · 10/08/2023 09:39

No gambling, nothing like that!

I am checking his emails now I don’t have access to his bank account

I've known people set up standing orders for a year and forget to renew them. Rent he should be on though!

Chersfrozenface · 10/08/2023 09:40

First you need to find out why

If it's just forgetfulness, how will you stop him forgetting again?

Anyway, why isn't the rent paid by direct debit?

RentNotPaid · 10/08/2023 09:40

Fuck knows!

I am fuming 😡

OP posts:
YourNameGoesHere · 10/08/2023 09:41

It would be pretty obvious that the money for your rent hadn't come out though so I'm not entirely sure how it could be a mistake especially as the OP noticed there seemed go be extra money.

IncessantNameChanger · 10/08/2023 09:42

What happens next? When my letting agent told me my tennants had missed two months rent they sent the section 21 the same dat. However they did the tennants first who confirmed they knew. Why isn't it a dd?

RentNotPaid · 10/08/2023 09:42

we have separate accounts

he pays rent and his bills and I pay electric, water, ct and my bills etc it’s split evenly

OP posts:
Moonshine160 · 10/08/2023 09:42

I don’t know how he could just forget to pay? Something else must be going on. He would surely know he’s got more money than normal which would automatically make you realise you haven’t paid your biggest bill!

Sorry I didn't mean you'd notice I meant surely he'd notice.

I mean if you got to the end of the month and suddenly had hundreds left over more than you normally did you'd stop and think hmmm what haven't I paid.

Hence I'm not sure he could just simply argue it was a mistake and he didn't notice.

RentNotPaid · 10/08/2023 09:44

Yeps we are 8 weeks behind I’ve just found the emails in his junk folder

I know people will say this is ridiculous but, if he chose not to pay the rent and has let you find out this way, I’d seriously be questioning my future in this marriage.

I couldn’t be with a man who is financially irresponsible to the extent that he jeopardises the roof over our heads.

Hiddenvoice · 10/08/2023 09:46

I would be phoning his work if I’m honest, this is serious and not just a slip up. Two months is a long time, surely he’d notice he had extra money in his account.

If he usually forgetful or do you think something else has been on his mind?

Gazelda · 10/08/2023 09:46

Can you pay any of the arrears to buy a vit of time while you get to the bottom of this?

YourNameGoesHere · 10/08/2023 09:47

Not ridiculous at all!

Is there any way you can contact him at work e.g a main reception or PA??

Who would you call in an emergency to get through to him, I'd be calling them asap this is more important than his big meeting!

Had he read them?
Is there a chance that he wouldn’t have realised?
