Thank you for keeping these threads going. I still keep up but don't post often.... I would just be echoing the sentiments of many posters here. This is definitely the most uncaring, unscrupulous and downright incompetent government I have known. Swim in shit, live in shit, digest shit, it is all a big huge shower of shit with this lot. They just need to go now they can't have much more left of the country to squeeze £s from as they have broken most of it.
I am so angry for our young people. They deserve a brighter future.

Blossomtoes · 12/08/2023 11:25

They deserve a brighter future.

They do. Let’s hope they get out there and vote for it.

Am I the only one with a creeping sense of dread that they'll engineer a way to try and prevent an election taking place next year?

IClaudine · 12/08/2023 11:44

I am starting to get really pissed off with the die hard Corbyn supporters. They seem to prefer the prospect of another Tory government rather than a Starmer led one.

I was a Corbyn supporter (but think he made some big mistakes) and am pretty left wing. But the truth is that under FPTP the UK is always going to reject a truly left wing party. If we ever get PR then things might change, but for now we have to be realistic.

I think some Corbynites think that if the Tories get in again and things get even worse, there will be some sort of revolution.

Absolutely not. Even they wouldn’t attempt to subvert democracy in that way after all their nonsense about Brexit being democratic. And if they tried the likes of Gina Miller would soon put a stop to it. I think it’s a measure of how dreadful they are that it’s occurred to you though.

Anxioys · 12/08/2023 11:55

The question is when it happens. May is the classic time, because you get hIgh turnout.

However, it's also predicted that the economy will still have high interest rates and cost of living will still be an issue. Sunak won't hit his claimed targets on that by May.

That leaves September (since the Tories will try and avoid summer holidays, low turnout for them) and winter elections are even worse. Yes they could go as far as Jan 2025 if desperate.

Noooooooo! 😱

Six people have died after a boat carrying migrants sank in the English Channel. SadAngry

How right Paul O’Connor is. If this was happening in any other country we’d be among its loudest critics.

Yes. I linked to this report because I felt the commentary around it was spot on.

We are allowing this to happen because we aren't taking measures to stop the boats.

We are taking measures to detain asylum seekers for longer because of our failed asylum system and so far both have failed at the point of introduction. They aren't even the deterrent they claim them to be.

The Mirror reports

Home Office was informed about discovery of Legionella on Wednesday evening

It continued to move six further migrants onto barge on Thursday

Following UK Health Security Agency advice these were taken off that evening, before everyone removed today

I do hope the H&S authorities are preparing their prosecution as I write.

Braverman should of course be fired for this. But nothing will happen.

Notonthestairs · 12/08/2023 15:24

Braverman has kept very quiet this week hasn't she. Strange given that Stop the Boats week falls within Home Office responsibilities.

Kiwano · 12/08/2023 15:24

Much as I want Braverman to be sacked, I'm scared of what would appear in her place given that Sunak is still desperate to keep the right wing happy. I wouldn't put it past him to appoint 30p Lee.

I think that would be a step too far. I can think of someone very popular with the grass roots in the leadership race who would be far more dangerous.

Anxioys · 12/08/2023 15:32

I'm sure she is being kept in place to take responsibility for this absolute shit show by Sunak so that her chances of obtaining party leadership are nil.

A lot of Ministers are talking about things they cannot possibly deliver. My assumption is they are all campaigning and not very subtly for leadership after the election.

She tweeted (or is it X'd - I'm not on it!) to pass her condolences about the boats.

Something tells me she'll come out the woodwork now with a crass statement about how sending these people risking their lives on boats to Rwanda is such a great idea.

There are no deaths too low that woman won't stoop to. Angry

Right now they are all hoping they are going to be the one down for the weekend media rounds. They’re going to have to go big to distract from this clusterfuck.

I know you meant they were hoping they were not gong to be the one, but there must be a dreadful temptation to go on there and not even try to defend the indefensible - just agree that yes, it's a shitshow, Braverman is both cruel and utterly incompetent, 30p Lee is a brainless bigot, their climate change policies are disastrous and Sunak and Hunt have zero idea how to sort the economy. Oh, and Rees-Mogg is a fool and Dorries is a grifter. I mean, what a way to go.

Mordaunt?

Blossomtoes · 12/08/2023 15:45

Kiwano · 12/08/2023 15:42

Mordaunt?

Badenoch. Not only off the scale right wing but ferociously intelligent. She terrifies me.

LittleBowSheep · 12/08/2023 15:54

@Blossomtoes, I totally agree. Badenoch frightens the living daylights out of me.

Braverman, 30p Lee, Rees-Smug, Mad Nad don't have a single brain cell between them but Badenoch does.

Notonthestairs · 12/08/2023 15:55

Its apparently NHS week next week. So expect more grift about how marvellously doctors are remunerated and its all their fault the waiting lists are so high. Oh and the BMA is full of communists. Probably more attempts to siphon off straightforward treatments to the private sector/one of their donors/somebody they have shares in (ideally all three) - leaving the most complex cases for the NHS.

They should launch crime week. Headlines would write themselves.

IClaudine · 12/08/2023 15:55

The trans haters love Badenoch.

I am not so sure she is especially intelligent. She fell for the litter tray on school hoax.

Anxioys · 12/08/2023 15:56

I do not think Badenoch is a shining intellect. She is strong minded.

It's also important to look at the competition. She leads a pack of low quality candidates for the Tories.
