If I wanted to reduce waiting lists, reducing access to flu and covid jabs wouldn’t be the way I’d go about it. It would probably be a good idea to ensure that as few people needed emergency admissions to hospital so you could do more elective work.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/08/2023 17:30

Actually on reflection, this may reduce the waiting list. Just perhaps not in the way the public were expecting.

Saucery · 08/08/2023 17:48

Oh well, you know those pesky over 50s who refuse to work, might as well see as many of them off as you can this winter, eh?

pointythings · 08/08/2023 17:54

Don't look at the thread on 30p Lee's expletive filled rant on asylum seekers, it's the very worst of human nature on there bar a few staunch defenders of human decency.

I'm on it.

Some people are scarily sociopathic.

Or stupid.

Or both.

People still believe all these people who come here to live on £10 a week risking their lives to get here are doing it for economic reasons.

There seems to be some new regular names appearing on those threads - must be new intake of interns.

I noticed that too. Interns and name changers?

Have a heart- immigration is all they've got now we've Brexited.

New polling - given exclusively to Channel 4 News - shows a Labour landslide victory with around 460 seats and the Conservatives reduced to 90 seats - if there were an imminent general election.

Poll by @FindoutnowUK and @ElectCalculus.

@PGMcNamara has more details.

Notonthestairs · 08/08/2023 19:33

I mean it's not like they can point to the economy or public services or the state of waterways or transport or anything really.

Anxioys · 08/08/2023 19:38

They utterly deserve 90 seats if they carry on with this nutty right wing head banger crap.

The Conservatives are right on the brink. Decent people will not vote for them. You can't build your winning election strategy on what goes down well in GB News land

pointythings · 08/08/2023 19:39

I suspect the extreme messaging on asylum may well tempt more people into voting tactically who would otherwise not have considered doing so.

Anxioys · 08/08/2023 19:42

Yes it is a massive turn off and shows you how broken they are. They should be going for the middle but they have lost it

I really hope you’re right. It would be helpful if Heseltine publicly backed the Libdems again. And a few other Tories from that era joined him.

I agree.
It seems to me that the traditional core Conservative vote like to think they are compassionate and care for this green and pleasant land. I can't imagine they are finding the current government much to their taste.

IClaudine · 08/08/2023 20:18

Is it me being paranoid, or does the Tory machine appear to be cranking away on the 30p Lee thread? GE coming a bit sooner than we thought?

I’ve seen next May/June mentioned in the last couple of days. Maybe Sunak’s busy sorting out his next gig right now and it’ll be the autumn so they can hand Labour a record miserable winter.

Notonthestairs · 08/08/2023 20:24

I suspect they are testing out messaging.

Anderson and cronies have sucked in a lot of attention today - and whilst we are discussing the deputy chair we are not discussing the economy/education/NHS/strikes/transport etc - so I'll give them credit and say well played.

Looking back through the thread there are so many deleted posts it is almost as holy as my colander.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/08/2023 20:49

Can’t remember if I posted the results of the you gov poll on what people on out of work benefits should and shouldn’t be able to afford. It was depressing. Apparently 25% of the people polled thought people on out of work benefits should be able to afford food. I think those people are all on the Anderson thread or the barge thread.

I’m hoping there’s a huge overlap between that 25% and the 27% on this omnisis poll who think that people should be housed on the barge even when they’ve been told it’s a death trap.

https://twitter.com/Omnisis/status/1687463546613813248

Depressing if not.

Anxioys · 08/08/2023 21:11

Look, that 25 per cent will never vote anything but Conservative. That is what the polls say. We should not be surprised or worried.

These are feelings and opinions they have had for many years. They are just emboldened by people like Lee Johnson. Our country doesn't have to be like that, and I think a lot of old Conservatives are repulsed by him and Braverman

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/08/2023 21:49

It’s not their voting intention that depresses me. It’s their morals.

How depraved do you have to be to think that people who can’t work shouldn’t be able to afford to eat.

Anxioys · 08/08/2023 21:54

I think there was some research that indicates this core of 25 per cent applies to many countries, not just the U.K. Even in established democracies you will have a core who are comfortable with policies that approach extremism. The challenge is shutting those people down. You will meet them in all walks of life. Some hide it better than others.
