-72 rating for the government’s handling of immigration on this yougov poll. Guess people aren’t confident that Rishi is stopping the small boats.

The problem people may be percieving is the contradiction between the government saying they want to stop the boats, and also maximise the UKs contribution to climate change which of course is and will even more in future cause the displacement of people leading to more boats.

'Betrayal of our country and the British people' What the actual fuck?

Bit late to this I know. But that was my response after just being open mouthed.

"Keeping asylum seekers safe is betraying the British people" is basically what they are saying Angry

Kiwano · 04/08/2023 00:44

The weird thing is that they haven't worked it out that an inferno on that boat won't just conveniently incinerate immigrants. The victims will inevitably include warders, cleaners, cooks, doctors, nurses, immigration officials etc who will be working there. Or are dead Brits just collateral damage in the noble cause of keeping immigration numbers down?

Guardian story that UK think tanks received a million in donations from the US in 2021.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/aug/04/uk-thinktanks-urged-to-be-transparent-about-funding-as-1m-us-donations-revealed

We know the IEA influenced Truss. Policy Exchange appears to have a similar relationship with Sunak - he worked there for a while and he recently spoke at their summer party. He's mentioned how they inspired his climate change policies as well as the anti protest laws.

I think a million in US donations seems quite low - but I guess we will never know quite how much is being funnelled through.

Goes some way to explaining the sitting on the fence regarding Trump & Jan 6th in my view though.

But Labour recieve donations from the Fire Brigades Union.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2023 09:35

Yeah and those pesky firefighters are trying to stop people bringing alive trapped in buildings.

Obviously much worse than whoever influenced Truss to crash our economy. 🙄

Is the UN on the woke list now as well?

According to the Telegraph

NEW: Rishi Sunak is considering becoming the first PM in a DECADE to miss the annual UN gathering of world leaders

According to Lizzie Dearden on Twitter the closest fire station to the Bibby Stockholm doesn't have any full time staff.

I'm sure - well I hope - there must be a larger fire station somewhere close by - but it's not exactly ideal is it

That's strange. Does it say why?

DuncinToffee · 04/08/2023 09:43

I wonder who oversaw the closure or going part-time of fire stations 🤔

The Prime Minister is considering choosing instead to focus on driving progress on his five promises and preparing for the annual Conservative Party conference.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/08/03/sunak-could-be-first-prime-minister-miss-leader-gathering/

Given the plane crash interviews he has given recently he probably does need more time to prepare the excuses as to why he has missed his priorities.

Notonthestairs · 04/08/2023 09:58

Getting ready for the Conservative conference is more important than the UN?

Well I suppose he knows Dorries and her bumper book of conspiracy is going to spice things up.

DuncinToffee · 04/08/2023 10:08

Well the UN condemmed his illegal migration bill

Yes I can see it's better to run away from criticism.

countrygirl99 · 04/08/2023 10:41

He bravely turned his tail and fled. Brave, brave, brave Sir Rishi

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/08/2023 10:45

He missed something else didn’t he? I’m sure this isn’t the first gathering of world leaders he’s sent a stand in to. Might have been a G7 thing.

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/08/2023 10:48

Oh it was UN climate talks at COP27. Can see why he’d want to miss that.

Cornettoninja · 04/08/2023 10:53

That was it. He’s massively out of his depth and only comfortable in the treasury (comfortable does not equal competent).

he’s knows it and his PR team are working hard to make sure it’s not said out loud too much. Unfortunately for them he has the diplomatic skills of a turnip.

DuncinToffee · 04/08/2023 11:23

Sunak u-turned on COP27 because of Johnson attendance iirc

OP posts:
pointythings · 04/08/2023 11:25

@Cornettoninja unfair to turnips. Look at the sterling pr job they did with Theresa Coffey!

jgw1 · 04/08/2023 11:38

Sunak knows his place, and it is not with world leaders.
