Vastly outweighed by all the absolutely awful things about the illegal migration bill but this is a little bit funny.
OECD allows countries to use their overseas aid money to support asylum seekers and pay hotel accommodation for them for 12 months. Now they are not asylum seekers if they arrive on small boats, the OECD has indicated it isn’t going to allow the U.K. to use that money to detain and deport them. Which gives the government a problem. Claim they are asylum seekers and use the overseas aid budget to pay for them but be unable to deport them. Or say they are not asylum seekers and have to find a different budget in order to detain them and still have to pay the same amount in overseas aid.
