Sunak has very high standards for anyone other than the Conservative Party.

Very much this

I wonder when Sunak will do an interview where he could be asked questions on a wide range of topics.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2023 13:27

I read somewhere that Sunak is only doing closed interviews with selected media to avoid him coming across a petulant and out of touch

Pre-election debates could be interesting.

If he bothered to turn up of course - it's far more likely he will copy his predecessor and hide.

Another woman does the honourable thing and resigns, NatWest boss Dame Alison Rose.

To be fair though, she breached confidentiality, GDPR and any number of bank rules. I want to know what the ICO thinks?

I'm not a lover of Farage or the BBC leadership but they do seem to be on the right side of this issue. He's right, that if the board aren't prepared to deal with confidentiality breaches robustly, and are happy to brush it under the carpet, then they shouldn't be in that position.

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/07/2023 14:00

I'm glad the FWR took the opportunity to question him directly, it's the single biggest issue that can change votes and labour are handling the issue dreadfully.

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 14:10

But it can change votes in either direction?

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 14:11

I genuinely don't agree either. Labour climbing down on climate change, and the child benefit cap are bigger issues for electors. The phone in showed that.

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/07/2023 14:15

Sunack is giving evidence at the HIV enquiry, he's still not answering questions.

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 14:19

I am getting loads of leaflets now jn my area without a by election.

Lib Dem strategy : Labour can't win here. And, anyway, he isn't local. I HAVE CHILDREN

Tory strategy: who even are the Tories? I have CHILDREN. And take selfies. Locally. I'm so local .

Can they really keep that up till the next GE?

I don’t agree. There are far bigger fish to fry for most people.

pointythings · 26/07/2023 15:45

@Blossomtoes I agree with you. When people can't pay their bills or get healthcare, the culture wars aren't going to be what wins sn election. Even ULEZ isn't going to play everywhere, and can be countered by pointing out 90%of people aren't affected.

The danger for the Tories with the culture wars, anti ULEZ etc is that it will play badly in their traditional base in the Shires, who probably like to think of themselves as compassionate.

Have the Tories abandoned any pretence of winning seats in places like Somerton and Frome?

I imagine so. We just need to move that up a teensy bit to NE Somerset and oust Mogg.

Well he’s got less of a majority than the 15k they were told by the pollsters to worry about a few weeks ago. What a joy it would be to see him defeated.

Cornettoninja · 26/07/2023 16:47

The tories love culture wars and ULEZ, they’re ideal bandwagons for them to jump on and encourage the disenfranchised to blame for all their problems. That and boats.

I genuinely can’t call whether that’s going to last them eighteen-ish months and a deepening economical/infrastructure crisis though. Can people really keep up the outrage whilst the rest of the country crumbles around them.

www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-budget-watchdog-warned-ex-finance-minister-kwarteng-about-soaring-borrowing-2023-07-26/

LONDON, July 26 (Reuters) - Britain's former finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng held back official warnings that borrowing was on course to rocket even before he attempted his ill-fated budget plans, new documents from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) show.

Charlatans.

He is delaying the compensation until after the elections

From the BBC live blog
The crowd, filled with victims and their families, heckled Sunak at some points - and applauded the inquiry's chair when he called for the government to be "caring"

How incredibly disingenuous.
Plain dishonest.

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/07/2023 21:39

He spent a fair amount of time trying to blame Penny Mordaunt, blaming everyone else, taking responsibility for nothing.
He really is low life. Saying how awful it is that those involved had been let down by previous governments, then letting them down again.

I got the impression from today that he gets everyone else to do the work, then swoops in to take the credit while absolving himself of blame. I also got the sense that Mordaunt has been a driving force for the families to have got anything so far. I haven't heard enough to know if I'm right though.

RafaistheKingofClay · 26/07/2023 21:57

I’m not sure this government has the word caring in its vocabulary.
