Desperate times in CCHQ.
But it's been widely shared whilst being criticised so I guess they are happy with that. A PM scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Sobering graph illustrating Tory performance against other countries.

I do appreciate that this is a global issue and it’s likely that other countries will face similar issues at some point but we haven’t half landed a duff hand for leaders during this. I haven’t seen any analysis that this isn’t going to get worse.

Could have been worse, he could have announced a team to stand on the cliffs of Dover pelting rocks at boats.

Give it time.

That graph 😬

Rishi Sunak has quietly slipped out new rules raising the amount individuals can secretly donate to political parties by 50%. Party campaign spending limits have also been raised.

Meanwhile the cap on trade union spending during elections has been frozen.

Transparency, accountability etc.
This is not that.

Notonthestairs · 25/07/2023 19:48

Still no sign of the safety assessments. I guess that doesn't really matter.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2023 10:27

The @BMA_JuniorDocs have announced a four-day walkout from 7am on Friday 11 August and 7am Tuesday 15 August. Consultants will strike on 24 and 25 August.

Sir Keir is on Nicky Campbell on a phone in if anyone is interested.

Barges and child benefit covered. MN FWR just phoned in en masse...

Notonthestairs · 26/07/2023 10:59

I'm sat in a GPs waiting room. If I were phoning in right now it would be about the state of the NHS.

Just read a tweet from Secret Barrister stating a rape trial has just been out back to 2025 due to lack of court resources. It's just not good enough.

Didn't hear any NHS questions , or strikes. One about mortgages. Nothing on education either.

What was his response to the FWR invasion?

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 11:52

Bluster.

Blossomtoes · 26/07/2023 12:14

Shame. Annelise Dodds’ article was very clear. He should have seen that coming.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2023 12:19

Another woman does the honourable thing and resigns, NatWest boss Dame Alison Rose.

I saw Dorries was tweeting about Alison Rose. Dorries doesn't do self reflection does she?!

But it's so fascinating watching the Tories scramble to get some purchase on Farage. I bet they are terrified he'll decide to lead Reform.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2023 12:27

Yes they seem very scared of Farage, Sunak even managed to form an opinion Hmm

Sunak has very high standards for anyone other than the Conservative Party.

Someone did phone in afterwards to say it wasn't a priority for many people. It was acknowledged KS would piss people off whatever he said , so his reception on that was critical but kindly exasperated on his behalf I thought. He was savaged a bit more on the tree hugger thing.

RafaistheKingofClay · 26/07/2023 12:44

Pretty sure Labour already know it’s not a priority for most voters. It’s essentially used as a gotcha by hostile media. He can bluster his way through it as long as he has some answers to the top 5 or 6 voter priorities.

Even Sunak and his small boats isn’t getting too far. There’s only so much you can blame on vulnerable people in dinghies and the problems affecting most of the country clearly point back to the people governing the country for the last 13 years.

If he stays on easing cost of living, mortgages and not killing the NHS he should be ok. If he can sort something on housing and pin the blame where it belongs on the Tories for not building enough and creating a crisis he should be home and dry. But sure I have confidence that he will though.

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 12:48

Yes, he managed the caller from Portland well, sidestepping the issue of the identity and background of the asylum seekers to focus on the government's mismanagement. She seemed happy with the noises he made.

Blossomtoes · 26/07/2023 12:49

He doesn’t need to bluster though. The line is clear and it discredits the “not knowing what a woman is” nonsense.

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 12:58

I think the point at the time from some callers was the way the news was released sort of covertly.

Plus, also, the new 'line' alienates others, who are quite likely to lean left and feel let down. so it remains tricky. I think they are hoping to keep it quiet.

There was an excellent caller on the subject of Scottish Labour, and Labour in general, not being left wing ,or progressive, enough and the popularity of progressive politics in Scotland, with Labours fixation on appealing to those who are fiscally and socially more conservative. I thought he was actually the most intelligent caller but I think Keir had gone by then.

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2023 12:58

He did directly answer the favourite FWR 'gotcha' question. The rest was cagy.
