Songs that make you cry/teary?

I've just been listening to Spotify at work in the office and the new song "0800 Heaven" has come on and I'm sat blinking away the tears...not really sure why.

The song "The Christmas Shoes" ALWAYS makes me cry (lyrics).

What songs give you that unintentiomal teary feeling?

Also to perk the thred up a bit, what song if you listen to it, just gives you a really happy feeling?

Golden: Harry Styles & beautiful day, U2 - my son's funeral songs 💔
Not even a Harry Styles fan, but when we were trying to think of a song it came on in Asda after visiting him at the funeral home saying 'you're so golden' repeatedly, and I knew then that was the one.

The Bonnie Lass of Fyvie. Even though it's about a sensible woman enforcing her boundaries.
Starlight Express.
Carry Me (like a fire in your heart), Chris de Burgh.

Mike and the mechanics-the living years. I recognise it from the single first note. My dad wasn’t on great terms with his dad when he died suddenly at a young age. My dad died too recently, unexpectedly and with that first note I know what’s coming and I need to rush to turn it off or just immerse myself in the double grief, his and mine.

I Hope There's Someone - Antony and the Johnsons

Someone Somewhere - Kenny Rogers

A Case Of You - Jonie Mitchell

Walking Her Home- Mark Schultz (I'm not religious, it's just a good song).

Every time

Songs that make me happy just now

Good Tradition - Tanita Tikaram

Mountain - Sam Ryder

Shackles - Mary Mary

Thinking About Your Love - Kenny Thomas

It will probably be totally different tomorrow when I have a different Spotify playlist on 🤣

I love Shackles too, and I'm not the slightest bit religious!

Pretty much any carol live esp Silent night. My teens won’t come to carol services with me anymore.

I know you by heart by Eva Cassidy.

I love a Carol Service. They were magical as a child but I still love them at 60!

RabbitsRock · 06/07/2023 21:31

Several songs by Beth Neilson Chapman but particularly “ Find Your Love” which featured in The Calendar Girls. I can’t listen to it without sobbing.

blackheartsgirl · 06/07/2023 21:32

Stand by me by Ben E King. It’s always got to me ever since I was little but even more so now as it was my wedding song, we married in hospital and I can’t listen to it now

time after time

also Becky Hills version of forever young 😭

maroon five Memories.

there’s many more but those 3 are doing for me at the moment

I can’t remember the famous singer or the title, but the one by the bloke whose little boy of 4 (IIRC) died after falling out of a building.

At Christmas, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - most especially the line, ‘Through the years we all will be together, if the Fates allow…’

Very poignant if you’ve recently lost someone - or are getting on a bit! I never knew the words until my group piano teacher gave us a copy (with the words) to play.

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas is my favourite of all. But the original version from Meet Me in St Louis. Judy Garland sings it to her little sister as they are moving away from everything that they know and love. So the line is "Someday soon we all will be together, if the fates allow. Until then, we'll have to muddle through, somehow. So have yourself a Merry Little Christmas now"

Heartbreaking in the film. And when you've had some awful, awful Christmases, as my family have, through death and divorce, it says that things will be better. And they usually are, eventually.

read my mind by the killers, no matter what I’ll just end up in bits even though i love that song. (Also cried when I saw them live playing this song).

the first line of ‘don’t let the sun go down on me’
‘I can’t light no more of your darkness’..
I haven’t really studied the wider meaning of the song or indeed the intended meaning, but I’ve spent the year supporting someone with mental health issues, it’s been really isolating and felt like an enormous lonely responsibility, I really feel those words. I keep trying though.

With you on this one.

It's an incredible song.

LollipopViolet · 06/07/2023 21:40

Wow "Soon You'll Get Better" is now on my list... That hits hard (my grandma is going through cancer treatment right now).

My list:
Supermarket Flowers
Fix You
Time to Say Goodbye
Never Enough

Most of these relate to bereavement, but honestly when hormones are doing their thing, any song can make me cry!

I love Shackles too, and I'm not the slightest bit religious!

Mark Schultz is a Christian singer/songwriter, and Walking Her Home is a religious song (although it could be interpreted differently, as most of his songs could really). I wasnt talking about Shackles being religious, just the guilty pleasure if having a good old cry to some Christian pop music every now and then 🤣

it really is just a sad, poignant poetry...

I never thought it would happen
With me and the girl from Clapham
Out on the windy common
That night I ain't forgotten
When she dealt out the rations
With some or other passions
I said "you are a lady"
"Perhaps" she said. "I may be"

We moved in to a basement
With thoughts of our engagement
We stayed in by the telly
Although the room was smelly
We spent our time just kissing
The Railway Arms we're missing
But love had got us hooked up
And all our time it took up

I got a job with Stanley
He said I'd come in handy
And started me on Monday
So I had a bath on Sunday
I worked eleven hours
And bought the girl some flowers
She said she'd seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her

I worked all through the winter
The weather brass and bitter
I put away a tenner
Each week to make her better
And when the time was ready
We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her

This morning at four fifty
I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter
Within a year a walker
She looked just like her mother
If there could be another

And now she's two years older
Her mother's with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling

Alone here in the kitchen
I feel there's something missing
I'd beg for some forgiveness
But begging's not my business
And she won't write a letter
Although I always tell her
And so it's my assumption
I'm really up the junction

My late ex husband used to say that was his song... "I'd beg for some forgiveness, but begging's not my business".
He put drink before anything, and ruined everything.

Nothing compares - sinead O'Connor

100% this one. Had so much bad stuff happening when it came out, and it's such an emotional song too.

Minion · 06/07/2023 22:02

The wind beneath my wings- Bette Midler
Tell Laura I love her
Family Portrait-Pink
