N Ireland elections

With all 462 seats filled (at 12.05am) here’s the new political landscape:

🟢 Sinn Féin overtake DUP as the largest party in local govt (with a record 144 seats)

🟡 Alliance into 3rd place, well ahead of UUP & SDLP

That's a powerful article.

And I agree 100% with what's written.

Even to the point I've always said the problems for Labour often lie in what the media does (A Labour minister burps and it's frontline news for a week - a Tory MP fucks up and they print something with a "look over here" headline).

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/05/2023 12:51

I’d the fine the same fine suella asked about claiming on expenses or was that a different speeding fine?

I’d the fine the same fine suella asked about claiming on expenses or was that a different speeding fine?

The same so the argument 'this is the first we heard about it' doesn’t hold up

You’ll be even more amazed by this. Apparently sources close to the Home Secretary say she was simply asking civil servants how to arrange a speed awareness course

Oh hahaha, she's even more stupid and ignorant than I thought then! and taking us for fools

DuncinToffee · 21/05/2023 12:55

The same so the argument 'this is the first we heard about it' doesn’t hold up

Or the first we heard that she tried to use the civil service to get around the group speed course before she gave up and tried to claim the fine as expenses.

Which makes a bit of a mockery of Sunak’s Suella paid the fine without complaint statement this morning. He does know that she didn’t just pay the fine.

Notonthestairs · 21/05/2023 15:05

So is it the same speeding fine Wragg was tweeting about a few months ago? He suggested that she'd asked if she could claim the fine on expenses.

Or is it a different penalty?

Reader she took the points.

"EXCLUSIVE 🚨: Suella Braverman asked Home Office civil servants to help her avoid a speeding fine and points on her licence by arranging a private one-to-one driving awareness course

Serious Qs over whether she may have breached ministerial code

What really is the point have having staff if they won't do as they are told.
Something really needs to be done about the civil service getting in the way of doing as they are told by ministers.

I largely agree with this but it doesn't say anything new.

Well you don't get that rich without paying some people off here and there.
That's why we pay for access to the Prime Minister, pretty cheap in the UK, much more expensive in the USA.

EXCLUSIVE : Suella Braverman's team originally denied she'd got speeding ticket

Raises troubling questions about the government's dealings with journalists

The Mirror contacted the Home Secretary about the driving offence six weeks ago

Her Tory special adviser insisted she had not been done for speeding and accused her political enemies of spreading misinformation

We now know that was false

SpAd lies, what a shocker!

I think I am beyond the point of anything surprising me now. Corruption is the name of the game for this government. Please make them all bugger off somewhere. Please.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/05/2023 16:32

OH FFS. What was the point in that. They must have known everyone knew about it unless they are saying her team missed the story about her trying to claim the nonexistent speeding ticket on expenses.

I am thinking of writing to my MP. He is mostly famous for having been told of by the Tory party for attending a NatC event and for asking the Saudi's to pay for his daughter's dance lessons. If I wrote expressing my disgust at Rishi Sunak because he is weak and flip flops and goodness look at the disastorous local election results. Surely there is someone better in the Tory party to lead into the next General Election?
Might my MP take me seriously?

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/05/2023 19:09

Commiserations on your MP jgw.

itsgettingweird · 21/05/2023 19:09

There's no point writing to my MP.

A) it's Braverman
B) she never replies

And C) it's Braverman!!!

That woman HAS to go. She is seriously a nasty piece of work anyway but politically she's a waste of space for this country.

I do enjoy reading her FB page though

SUELLA today I visited X place and ate yet more cake.

REPLIES how about you actually do your job, don't break the law and stop the racist rhetoric.

I've also noticed she always visits locks Heath and Warsash. Rarely ever actually Fareham itself which is the name of the area she governs. Just the smaller more Tory areas

I think you should feel honoured she visits the constituency so often. My MP aims to visit once a month if he is able to and gets confused and angry* if the roads are closed for well publicised sports events.
*rude and abusive to volunteer marshals.

Guessing this is neither of your MPs. My money’s on 30p Lee or Gullis.

Notonthestairs · 21/05/2023 19:42

She wanted a police station photo op instead of voting on the immigration bill?

It's almost as if she wanted to put a bit of distance between herself & the bill.

Maybe it doesn't go far (right) enough for her or she does understand it won't work.

DuncinToffee · 21/05/2023 21:22

No10 confirms Rishi Sunak will consult with his independent adviser on ethics, Sir Laurie Magnus, tomorrow over the Suella Braverman speeding controversy.

Yeah right 😂

"A government source told the BBC that Braverman had been 'concerned' about her insurance premiums..."

There's a cost of living crisis you know.
Can one claim car insurance on expenses as an MP?
