'local conservatives' not like those terrible Westminster conservatives. Quite different.

Notonthestairs, One of the few things I agreed with Matt Hancock on in his News Agent interview this week. (Yes I was surprised to agree with him on anything!)

We’re going to crack down on legal migration now. Just who is going to do all the jobs is a mystery. All the 50-60 year olds who have mysteriously become long term sick since we decided covid was over presumably.

Rishi Sunak at the G7 Summit

Legal migration is too high, says Rishi Sunak

The prime minister refuses to put a "precise figure" on an acceptable number of legal migrants.

I keep thinking about that competition to win various things including a 10 minute call with Sunak. Was that real and not a spoof? I just can't imagine....

tobee · 19/05/2023 15:27

I don't think that's going to stop her. I don't think Braverman does self awareness.

Ah but if you donate £250,000 to the Conservatives you get yourself invited on to the Advisory Board. Doesn't have to be in a single donation, multiple smaller ones are fine. Then you get a monthly chance to offer your views on tax etc direct to the PM.
No competition required.

itsgettingweird · 19/05/2023 16:15

She won't even notice.

Anyone who disagrees with her is just wrong. Last I checked locally she was still expected to get in at the next election. 🙄

Notonthestairs · 19/05/2023 16:18

I suspect Braverman believes if you are popular you are doing it wrong.

She believes if your aren't Suella Braverman you're doing it wrong.

She's honestly as awful in RL as she comes across in the media.

But she is predicted to hold Fareham and the new area boundary so I don't think she'll change path.

Carrie Johnson pregnant again.

DuncinToffee · 19/05/2023 17:01

And now we have Damain Green fondly remembering swimming in sewage as a child.....

I fondly remember swimming in Windermere as a child. Wouldn’t now 🤮
Don’t know where Green was dragged up but allowing sewage to be pumped……anywhere the water companies fancy is quite a recent invention and not one taken seriously enough by the governing party of over a decade.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/05/2023 18:21

Surprised Suella had enough popularity for it to ‘collapse’ in the first place. Suggests it was high and is now very low.

Blossomtoes · 19/05/2023 18:56

Thank you for the thread. It’s brilliant as a digest of the latest lunacies after taking a few days off from the news.

Yes. This is my go-to place 😊

Read and weep. Or rage. Rage is probably more useful.

"Tomorrow, May 20th, the Tories will have been in power for longer than New Labour were.

This thread lists what Labour did during their 4,756 days in office."

So for the Tories I can really think of only one: Marriage equality.

Voted against were mainly made up by Conservatives.
It got over the line with Lab/Lib support.

A Conservative achievement but won cross party.

Notonthestairs · 19/05/2023 22:41

Double checked that because I thought I might have been talking out of my proverbial. 400 in favour 175 against of which 136 were Conservative. Pretty much all of the then ERG voted against - Kwarteng, Mogg, Davis, Patel, Dorries, Hayes etc. 22 Lab against.

That's because those Tories know what a woman is.
