This is an interesting take

Rishi Sunak does things that piss off his headbanger colleagues (on immigration, on REUL, on deals with Europe). But if you analyse his actions as someone who knows he's lost the 2024 gen elex and is seeking a big international job (IMF, World Bank) they make perfect sense.

https://twitter.com/SnellArthur/status/1659109044274036736?s=20

Makes sense, he's got his eyes firmly on the next big prize, everything he's doing now is calculated to maximize his earning potential in his next role, being prime minister has nothing to do with wanting to help the country it's just a stepping stone for his next big grift

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/05/2023 11:41

It makes sense. He can’t win the next election. The Tories are going to break before fixing themselves so makes sense to look to next job. Hopefully without too much shit from this mess sticking to him. (Pun unintended)

best bet at this point is to stick himself and some of the less headbanger MPs into the safest seats they have and get as few of the far right re elected as possible. Offload all the mad ones onto reform or reclaim. Not sure what they can do about the Tory membership. That might be a lost cause. Change the way leaders are elected?

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/05/2023 11:45

The Met may have lied about the night stars arrests. I know you are all going to be surprised by that. They weren’t even handing out tape alarms.

Looks like the Met Police have been caught lying again

How many times are they going to get away with this?

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/05/2023 11:46

FFS rape alarms.

tape alarms will get you arrested because you can probably lock on with tape.

From James O’Brien’s Twitter: Daily Mail having a totally normal one.

So they're backing Braverman for PM then

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2023 12:46

£50k in hospitality from Heathrow alone in nine months. No wonder he was unavailable when the time came to “lay in front of the bulldozers”.

Omg, IMAGINE what bravaman would do as leader of the party😲😳🤣
If she had free reign to express herself, her disgusting loopy madcap nonsense ideas, it would be horrifying and hilarious and no one would ever take them seriously again

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/05/2023 13:00

I’m not going to lie. There’s a part of me that would. Just preferably either once I’ve had time to leave the country or the Tories aren’t in power.

Seriously though, I can see a split and Braverman could well end up leading the part that’s made up of the complete loons while the saner ones rebuild a new Tory party.

Rishi Sunak's election agent duped voters with fake council tax demand made in his office

Voters were sent a letter purporting to be from their local council warning that their council tax bill was going up”

The letter was headed with the name and office address of Stockton Borough Council to make it look like it was an official communication from the local authority.

Some of the wording was in red so it appeared similar to a final payment demand.”

Gibbs is not just a Sunak election agent, he is also a Tory councillor.

Only at the bottom did it say in v small print that it was not a demand for money ..and that it was from the North Allerton Tory party.

The PM's Tory election agent produced the scam leaflet that scared people into think they owed money as it was made to look like it came from the local council

Thanks, the Mirror website is a nightmare to use and so much went wrong with my post, I didn’t think it actually got posted.

I guess it's all they've got.

There's a saying isn't there? "If you believe something enough then it's true"

Either that or after their attempts at changing votes via voter ID failed they have something else up their sleeve?

DuncinToffee · 19/05/2023 08:27

It's all he has got,, as you can see here. He really is a terrible communicator

How do you feel when you lose?' - Sky's @BethRigby

The Conservatives recently lost out in local elections and Beth Rigby asks PM Rishi Sunak how it feels to be "one of life's winners" but to lose.

"The message I've got is the country want us to redouble our efforts"

No. Sorry Rishi. The message you've got is the country wants you out!

I admire his twisting of this! Well, I don't actually

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/05/2023 09:11

What @Roussette just said.

Do you think he actually looks quite angry rather than being robotic?

This deception with canvassing leaflets is pretty widespread by the Tories now. They didn't brand some of their recent leaflets with the Tory name - they obviously know their brand is in tatters.

Notonthestairs · 19/05/2023 09:28

I think he looks floored by the question. I very much doubt he's ever been directly asked that before.
There were so many better responses than the automatic one - repeating the 5 target mantra- he reached for.

Notonthestairs · 19/05/2023 09:34

Agree with this. I don't think the Conservatives will return to the centre ground any time soon. For one thing the members don't seem to want them in the there. Also they one Nationers don't seem able to rally themselves. One of the few things I agreed with Matt Hancock on in his News Agent interview this week. (Yes I was surprised to agree with him on anything!)

"It’s a perfectly plausible – even likely – scenario that Sunak loses the next election, resigns and in the ensuing leadership election MPs allow a candidate to go forward who has an agenda very similar to the NatCons. My piece for @NewStatesman."

And they make their leaflets green, not the normal blue. And finding a Tory MP on Twitter admitting to being conservative is as rare as hen's teeth
