The housing market is broken. Ds2 is working full time. Has more than a 10% deposit, but can't buy anything because 5x his salary will only buy half a house here. He's earning above minimum wage as well.

He could get a shared ownership where the price is overinflated and the cost of the rent on top of the mortgage would cripple him, and be more than a larger mortgage on a house he owns only with the bank.

I don't envy whoever tries to fix it. Prices have to come down to a normal level.

SerendipityJane · 01/05/2023 17:31

The housing market is broken.

Says who ? It's not broken for the few that are creaming it in from extortionate rents and an artificial scarcity is it ? In fact it's working perfectly for them.

As with any discipline, you need to state your units and show your workings.

Thesharkradar · 01/05/2023 17:48

true @SerendipityJane but ultimately it's surely going to hurt them too?
If people cant afford homes, dont want to start families, certain areas have no young people at all, etc it will be destructive to society as a whole and this will hurt the wealthy at the top because the ordinary people are the ones doing the work that keeps them rich!

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/05/2023 20:49

That's outrageous. I'm furious on her behalf. She has effectively been punished for someone else's "almost" criminal behaviour. What the actual fuck is the point of the police?

On another thread a child is in an unhealthy relationship (at best) and the police and social services appear to be doing nothing.

It's fucking backwards

sleepsforwimps1 · 01/05/2023 21:23

Unfortunately that is what social services do. Listen to malicious allegations whilst ignoring the real risks in front of them

SerendipityJane · 01/05/2023 21:26

Wasn't Justine a similar victim a while back ?

There are 2 things wrong with the entire episode. 1) "probable cause" and 2) standing.

My understanding of English law is you have to have "standing" to being an action. Although the mantra "think of the children" has been given magical status over the years .... this is where it gets you.

AdamRyan · 01/05/2023 22:47

Exactly. She's been punished for being a high profile mother. It's disgraceful.

The man involved needs prosecuting for wasting police time imo. Shame there isn't a similar crime for social services. They are under staffed and have better things to do than investigate vexatious complaints.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/05/2023 22:55

The Labour MP told Today on BBC Radio 4 he made the complaint as he disagreed with her campaign against misogyny.

I’m not surprised he disagreed with it. He’s a raving misogynist. You can be sure it wouldn’t have happened if she was male. She just needs to know her place and get back home to looking after the children.

Thesharkradar · 01/05/2023 23:31

so said MP is in favour of misogyny!
Well at least he's not hiding it, we can see what he is

Piggywaspushed · 02/05/2023 06:56

I think you've misread that shark. The Labour MP above is Stella Creasey. All the pronouns here have clouded meaning...

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2023 09:01

I read it like shark as well at first.

Is the Sue Gray appointment the next squirrel?

Blossomtoes · 02/05/2023 10:50

Looks like it. No idea why they’re making so much fuss about it, given that they’ve never let us see her report. It’s a stupid move because the opposition will be putting a lot of pressure on them to publish it now - unredacted

SerendipityJane · 02/05/2023 11:32

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2023 09:11

Is the Sue Gray appointment the next squirrel?

It's Keirs beer innit ?

Or Hunter Bidens laptop.

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2023 11:36

And it all leads back to Johnson and Simon Case

And it all leads back to Johnson and Simon Case

Doesn’t everything? Case seems to be the most incomplete civil servant in Whitehall, I’m astonished he’s still in the job.

Piggywaspushed · 02/05/2023 06:56

Oh yes, I should have remembered that the complaint wasn't made by an MP and read that as it was intended ☝🏻👀
As an aside I sometimes feel that the term 'male supremacist' would be more fitting than 'misogynist'?
At the very least it would help the hard of thinking like Dominic-I'm a black belt-Raab

AdamRyan · 02/05/2023 13:49

It's just project fear. Get over it.

(I have to say that or I'll cry)

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/05/2023 14:02

That might be my fault, Shark. I didn’t really read the sentence I copied and pasted on its own to check it made sense without the preceding sentence to help with the pronouns.

AdamRyan · 02/05/2023 14:17

No it was a bonkers sentence in the article. I had to read it a few times to understand it.

So they trail a ministerial statement regarding Grey. But when it comes to it it turns out they can't provide any information. But they've managed to get a few headlines - so what does it matter?

twitter.com/nicholaswatt/status/1653442152968355846?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

If they had any evidence at all of wrongdoing they'd be shouting it from the rooftops.

It was nothing more than a very obvious distraction in advance of Thursday.
In the meantime happy to drag one of there own employees names through the gutter press.

It's not a surprise that they'd do it but doesn't make it any less reprehensible.

Notonthestairs · 02/05/2023 18:17

Sorry that should be former employee.

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/05/2023 18:51

Integrity, professionalism and accountability… is for other people. Especially the blob.

The brass neck of them stating it’s important to ensure civil revive impartiality when half the party have spent a week complaining that Raab has been unfairly sacked for being authoritative because the civil servants wouldn’t do what he wanted.

Anyway weren’t we told that SG cleared Boris in her report. Damn that two faced Sue Gray for conspiring with the opposition to find Boris innocent.
