Surely most of Johnson's kids are adults now though, how many is he paying maintenance for? 1?

But they are probably being paid a fucktonne in hush money to keep a very low profile. Team Johnsons worst nightmare is probably a sprog Johnson popping up that not only looks like, but sounds like and acts like a chip off the old block.

In fact, if there are any up and coming stand ups in the character vein (who remembers Paul/Pauline Calf ?) they could do a lot worse than to develop an act based on the premise they are Boris firstborn. Especially if they play with the narrative that most comedians are lefty, so adopt an "ironic" approach.

ChatGPT could already write the scripts.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 30/04/2023 11:33

Did anyone watch transport secretary Mark Harper on Kuenssberg this morning? He's trying so hard to win the tory morally bankrupt limbo prize that I had to replay it to double check he said what I thought he said.

Railway workers striking will impact Eurovision, which is a Ukrainian event. Putin has targeted Ukrainian railways and many Ukrainian railway workers have been killed. It appalling that British railway workers are refusing to stand in solidarity with them by striking.

How low can you go?

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/04/2023 11:44

Dh muttered about him saying nothing about the FA Cup also being held.

It's reprehensible equating British workers fighting for better pay and safe working conditions to Putin blowingvup Ukrainian railways, bit then I'd expect nothing better from this government, they are awful.

Thesharkradar · 30/04/2023 12:27

Oh yes now I see it@SerendipityJane !
It's all the various bribes he has to pay to keep people quiet, all the bodies he has to keep re-burrying a great expense
That's why he keeps running out of money.
But it sounds like he's gone down the wrong route? instead of focusing on hush money he should have focused on being very litigious ...like Jimmy savile?

mibbelucieachwell · 30/04/2023 13:13

Thank you for this thread from drizzly Scotland.

With superinjunctions, how do we know he hasn't ?

Oh yes I guess we only get to find out when he's found having died in his sleep with his fingers crossed at a great old age 😶

Guys, we’ve destroyed British politics.

Ds were just talking yesterday what an absolute fucking The Telegraph is. Being a broadsheet they have a thin veneer of serious journalism, and I'm sure it's readers congratulate themselves for being well informed.

  • Ds and I were just talking yesterday what an absolute fucking joke The Telegraph is.

Need to proofread better.

tobee · 30/04/2023 17:38

What agencies should be able to investigate Johnson's loan? Is it a parliamentary investigation? A met police matter? What? How can there be no checks and balances about these things? We've really learnt since Johnson became PM that if you're willing you're apparently able to get away with loads.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 30/04/2023 17:44

There was a financial dude on LBC earlier and he wanted to know why Johnson needed someone to underwrite a loan for him. As Prime Minister on a quarter of a million per annum, he should have had no issue at all securing a bank loan. The fact that nobody would lend to him says he has an absolute shit ton of debt, and that is a major security issue.

I dont know but surely lots of investigative journalist types have got their eyes on the prize and will be doggedly finding and joining all the dots. Surely lots of people who wouldn't ordinarily collaborate will find common cause in their distaste for his behaviour?

What is he spending the money on? Because it clearly isn’t personal grooming or expensive gym memberships

coke?
He's made media appearances where he's clearly on it, which suggests a sizeable habit? Maybe his dealer is bribing him? He clearly rubs shoulders with lots of dodgy types so who knows what's really going on?

SerendipityJane · 30/04/2023 19:14

I'm guessing he has to repay the backers that made him PM. They aren't interested in the fact he was a disastrous PM, and wasn't able to complete his term.

Also the collapse of the Rouble has probably affected his wealth.

😱Damm if only we had managed destroying the likes of braverman, 30pLee, Gullis, JRM & the list goes on……..

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/04/2023 20:15

Telegraph was the only paper we had in our house growing up. Not sure how I ended up as some sort of remoaner liberal leftie who destroyed politics.

Have had much fun this week with a visiting Tory family member who wouldn’t contemplate voting for anyone else. Visiting from abroad so I’ve taken to reply to every complaint about the state of the country with ‘welcome to Tory Britain’ or ‘this is what happens after 13 years of Tory governance.’ I’m not actually discussing politics with him. I don’t fancy a rerun of the ‘we’re doing better than everyone else at vaccinating against covid’ argument from Dec 2021.

SerendipityJane · 01/05/2023 16:37

Damn - The Tories have twigged that Voter ID will likely hurt them more than Labour. Looks like the grease is being applied for a reverse ferret. I suspect that there will be a lot of "guidance" around how light touch the officials should be.

Left-wing activists will disrupt local elections over ID rules, Tories fear

Electoral Commission is asked what plans it may have in place to protect polling stations from being targeted

Blossomtoes · 01/05/2023 16:39

You’re right @SerendipityJane. I reckon it will be declared a failure after the local elections and quietly consigned to history.

pointythings · 01/05/2023 16:42

Considering voter ID was intended as a tool to suppress the left, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'm not at all sure they will back out of it after the local elections, but then again I may be wrong about how much more egg the Tories wish to apply to their already eggy faces.

Of course they won't back out of it. However that doesn't mean it has to be enforced with rubber hoses.

This is just one of many Tory bright ideas that simply hasn't had a chance to be analysed because no one dare be the bearer of bad news any more. I'm not saying CCHQ is like the Führerbunker yet, but there are some striking parallels. Certainly the rats leaving the ship.

The recent cull of halfway competent civil servants is merely accelerating the rot. As I said, this [voter ID snafu] would have been flagged up to the top, only the top were only receiving glowing reports.

The key thing will be a desperate attempt to prevent true blue Tories seeing people who look like them in the papers with stories of being treated like immigrants. Seems the only way to do that is to create a trope of "left wing activists" and blame them for forcing election officials to obey the new law. Which isn't too hard. Remember it wasn't Liz Truss that failed. It was the Anti Growth Coalition that thwarted her at every turn. What with their "reality" and whatever.

They do love a good u-turn.

Are they still being tough on criminals like Boris and Rishi or are they back in a hug a hoody phase?

I saw a brief headline about "Help to buy" being resurrected. Presumably the housing market was in danger of correcting itself, so needs more skewing to ensure it's the cash cow the country needs.
