Richard Sharp has resigned...

Amazing that Sharp had to be told his position was untenable - and that he's staying in position until the end of June.

The Heppinstall report looks VERY interesting.

No 10 signalled that Johnson was keen to appoint Sharp before the interview process had even begun. There were "leaks" to the press about it in advance.

No 10 influenced the panel appointing the Chairman by their choice of "independent" panel members including the wife of the Editor of the Spectator and the chairwoman of a local Conservative association. Appointments signed off by Sunak's close friend Oliver Dowden.

I am sure the Conservatives have another donor they'd like to thank - Sharp's replacement is likely to be more of the same.

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2023 11:22

There have been tweets suggesting Sunak has tried to select only reporters from centre-right newspapers to press conference in Scotland.

Reporters refused and insisted that all reporters should be given access.

Sunak doesnt want to answer questions on Sharp and Number 10 threaten to cancel press briefing.

Integrity, professionalism and accountability at work there...

FFS they need to call an election and put themselves out of our misery.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/04/2023 11:44

I don’t understand why they’re still ploughing on. They can’t turn it round from here. Just give it up and say we’ve broken everything you fix it.

jgw1 · 28/04/2023 11:44

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2023 11:22

Hasn't he heard of fridges or did Johnson take it with him?

pointythings · 28/04/2023 11:48

@RafaistheKingofClay and when they go, they should put that on the traditional note left by the outgoing administration too: 'Sorry, we fucked everything up, good luck fixing it'.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/04/2023 11:49

And labour should mention it every day for the next 13 years.

secretmumoffour · 28/04/2023 12:21

@RafaistheKingofClay 13 years? They way this lot have fucked everything up I would hope they would be out for a generation

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2023 12:31

Finally the PM’s team has agreed that he will speak to Scottish journalists

Accountability.

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/04/2023 13:21

Inadvertent oversight is code for I'm taking the British taxpayers for a ride and thought I could get away with it.

Wtf is wrong with these people. The old boys club can fuck off.

Richard Sharp is just the latest. They are all scum. How dare they criticise ordinary working people.

DuncinToffee · 28/04/2023 13:24

jgw1 · 28/04/2023 11:44

Hasn't he heard of fridges or did Johnson take it with him?

Aren't there some spare wine fridges?

Then again seeing the ITV clip of Johnson this morning, he probably kept them all.

Sharp's excuse his breach was "inadvertent"

Like Zahawi's taxes

If I were on a jury, and a defence of "inadvertent" was lodged, I'd allow it. Sauce for the goose and all that.

SerendipityJane · 28/04/2023 13:35

I see Wikipedia are joining the growing UK Exit queue.

I see Wikipedia are joining the growing UK Exit queue.

Do you have a link? I tried googling but all I get is streams of Wikipedia pages on brexit, leaving the EU, the breakup of the UK etc. Even Jeremy Corbyn came up.

tobee · 28/04/2023 16:26

I would do Wikipedia and then press news?

tobee · 28/04/2023 16:28

Although that's not getting good results either

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 28/04/2023 16:49

I can only find recent articles on Wikipedia risking being blocked in the UK as they're going to refuse to comply with the Online Safety Bill.

Wikipedia will not perform Online Safety Bill age checks

It says age verification would contravene its commitment to collect minimal data from readers.

SerendipityJane · 28/04/2023 16:55

That was the Wikipedia story. I have no doubt they will leave the UK if needed. No problem for me (indeed none of this frippery would stop me doing what the fuck I want on the internet. After all, I have my name on enough RFCs to claim ownership of a little bit). However it would block it off from most people.

As far as the Johnson/Sharp saga goes, I think it is becoming increasingly clear that Boris was indeed, Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know.

Hey, ChatGPT - coin a phrase that encapsulates Boris Johnson and sycophancy in an allusion to Lord Byron.

Sure, does "Mad, Nad and dangerous to snow" satisfy your requirements ?

Notonthestairs · 28/04/2023 17:57

Mad, Bad and dangerous to lend to.

Wonder just who that credit facility was with - and whether it was deliberately structured so that it didn't need to be declared (I'll bet £800,000 it was).

Arthur C Clarke once stated that any sufficiently advanced technology would appear indistinguishable magic to a lesser advanced people.

I think there is a corollary to be made that any sufficiently posh matey moving of large sums of money appear indistinguishable to money laundering and tax evasion to us plebs.

"You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment"

The odd thing is I have never managed to be inadvertently corrupt.

I wonder why that is?
