"genuine mistake"

More than 800 uncounted postal votes have been found following last week's local elections in North Lincolnshire.
A total of 864 votes for the election in the Broughton and Scawby ward had been found, but only after the result had been declared, the council said.
The law does not allow votes to be counted following a declaration.

Wow. That is terrible.

Wow. That is terrible.

Given the compensation for someone who whose vote could no be cast due to unlawful behaviour on the part of the government is

£0

then it's fair to say your vote is worth fuck all.

And when you put it like that, non-voters may have a point.

I assume most of this thread are aware of the Tory MP who’s on bail for rape and hasn’t had the whip removed. He is banned from the Westminster estate though so can’t go into Parliament. His local party are giving him the green light to stand in the next general election.

Tory MP accused of rape gets go-ahead to run for re-election

Exclusive: The unnamed MP has been free to continue working in his community while on bail, including with children

There is very little chance of him being convicted, and it won't come to court until after the general election after next anyway...

I'm beginning to think it was deliberate act to run the criminal justice system down - self preservation Angry

It is a plausible theory, but suggests a greater degree of foresight and planning than has generally been in evidence from them.

We are riddled with vested interests and their lackeys. Journalists & editors are only part of the problem

Makes me very glad we’ve got the likes of Krish GM still calling people out.

Notonthestairs · 13/05/2023 01:13

"Makes me very glad we’ve got the likes of Krish GM still calling people out."

I'm not diminishing that and will happily say I'm grateful for Ch 4 news. We know why Dorries, Johnson and the Conservatives wanted to sell off Ch 4. It's not because of The Last Leg.

Just pointing out that we are riddled with hidden vested interests. KGM can only deal with those prepared to be interviewed.

Anyone else's Twitter feed full of rumours of a VONC in Rishi? And saying that has to result in a GE now since it has happened so many times?

itsgettingweird · 13/05/2023 06:31

No but I had to switch off itv news last night when Hunt started going on about how well the budgets are going and how's he's mange to prevent us being in economic dire straights.

I just cannot work out why he hasn't been outed? The HoC is like a leaky sieve normally. Reading that article, something tells me the person concerned has a large majority maybe. Why on earth wouldn't his local party choose someone else?

This really doesn't make any sense. There was talk it was someone with the initials MF (I don't want to be sued here!) and that person does seem far more low key since all this came out.

Presumably (most) of the local party don't know.

PinkCherryBlossoms · 13/05/2023 07:41

If it's the one I'm thinking of, he sort of was last year wasn't he? People thought it was a more prominent MP with those same initials but he was in the Commons at a time when the accused rapist was banned. Unless they have more than one MP in this position.

By us he probably meant him and his mates.

PinkCherryBlossoms · 13/05/2023 08:08

I expect so. Won't be the likes of you and me!

There is so much wrong with this, I don't even know where to start Angry

As has been said before, rape is now effectively legalised.

Nearly 1,000 voters in Tyne and Wear were turned away from polling stations last week because they did not have photographic identification (ID).

Benjamin Butterworth(The I) - The people speaking at the conservative democratic organisation conference... Priti Patel, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Nadine Dorries... are all huge Johnson fans... & this conference is about getting Boris Johnson back as PM

OP posts:
Zonder · 13/05/2023 10:28

That's it @DuncinToffee Priti has been mentioned on the radio a lot this morning blaming the current government for ditching their big clown vote winner.

Notonthestairs · 13/05/2023 10:47

Ah the longing for the King Across The Water (in the Caribbean not France).

I don't think there will be enough letters to trigger a VONC - most understand they won't keep their jobs after the next GE and need to make the most of the opportunities now.

Although we've got a proven track record of stupid political decisions and Johnson would enjoying another GE campaign making wild promises and not actually governing.

They'll know. He hasn't been in Parliament for starters! That would raise an eyebrow!

Roussette · 13/05/2023 10:56

I really really want Mogg, Dorries, Patel et al to keep on and on about this.. Bring Back Big Dog!

Because all it will do is split the party and we'll welcome that
