I was going to ask the same thing. Then I remembered I had to close down 43 tabs on my phone last week.

Professor Sir John Curtice on

The BBC is projecting that if all of Britain had the chance to vote in local elections today - and had behaved in the same way as those who did - the share of the vote for each party would be as follows:

  • Conservative - 26%
  • Labour - 35%
  • Liberal Democrats - 20%
  • Others - 19%
The nine-point lead that Labour is projected to have over the Conservatives is the largest lead that the Labour Party have recorded on our measure since losing power in 2010. Although Labour have met the minimum threshold they set themselves, the party will be disappointed that it has not been any more successful this year than last.

Understanding tactical voting will be key to the next election IMO.

This is what my very astute DD just typed on WA to me... about the results and tories getting trounced

What people want is...
access to a GP and dentist, reasonable wait times at A&E,
salary increases that allow people to actually live and not just survive
energy bills that aren't the highest in europe
pay for nurses, carers and teacher that stop us hemorrhaging so many from these professions
less red tape from brexit that makes products less available and more expensive
On small boats.... I would like safe routes so that people aren't risking their lives and quicker times processing their applications but I don't want to stop people coming

She's a good girl

You must be so proud of her. Halo

You must be so proud of her. Halo

Thank you, yes, very! And other DD is even more on the ball with this sort of stuff and is very proactive in making a difference.
However they're a pain in the arse at times too 🤣😂

Drugs stop people from thinking and really consider what's happening
Agree, the last thing any government wants is a population who are all healthy switched on engaged independent thinkers, that would make their job much much harder!
Far easier for them if most of us are too stressed and overwhelmed to really understand what's going on, or rather to see clearly the mechanisms by which we are all controlled and exploited

Which is why I think they keep underfunding education.

A well educated society who can apply critical thinking skills are not not good for the Tory's.

DuncinToffee · 05/05/2023 15:46

UKIP have lost their 7 remaining seats.

If anyone thinks I'm going to forget about our mortgage or energy payments or strike action they'd be sorely mistaken.

Exactly this and the strikes are showing no signs of stopping. Time for a GE

IClaudine · 05/05/2023 15:47

There is a lot of denial amongst Tory supporters today.

DuncinToffee · 05/05/2023 15:48

You'd be worried if they weren't Grin

It was the same with the last local elections, more obvious this time around.

UKIP have lost their 7 remaining seats.

So I never want to see them on the BBC ever again.

Roussette · 05/05/2023 15:59

Hasn't the Greens gained a Council or are they still waiting for the final two counts?

So pleased they have done well, love Caroline Lucas

That is excellent news

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/05/2023 16:06

Did Reform have any candidates? If they haven’t then that’s a section of the Tory vote that will go in a general election I would have thought. I’d be surprised if their voters were voting Lib/lab/green in a local election. Weirder things have happened though.

Yeah someone on another thread posted what depressing news to wake up to 😒 Bit like the rest of us then when we wake up every day to more Tory shit.

DuncinToffee · 05/05/2023 16:13

Labour has won Dover from the Cons, guess 'stop the boats' wasn't a priority there after all

BREAKING!

The Tories have fallen in Nadine's constituency!! Huge losses .

countrygirl99 · 05/05/2023 16:19

@Piggywaspushed love it

Piggywaspushed · 05/05/2023 16:19

Waves excitedly at countrygirl!

Eve · 05/05/2023 16:23

are they counting all the 'local conservatives' who stood as conservatives though.

We had all 'local conservatives' or independents who were very keen to distance themselves from the Government.

countrygirl99 · 05/05/2023 16:23

@Piggywaspushed I'm Bedford Borough I hold absolutely no hope of my utterly uselessTory councillor losing but am hoping for a substantially reduced majority. The big one here is the Mayoral election with the East-West railway a factor but south and north could go opposite ways on that.
