You still get Netto in Germany - I just went to one. They had lovely apples.

I miss one called what everyone wants which was in Glasgow.
I think it maybe changed to Razzle Dazzle.

I already miss m and co because i had one close by and ds2 could tolerate going there because it was quiet. In retrospect that should have been a hint it wasn't going to last.

smooththecat · 25/04/2023 23:40

Warehouse
Topshop
Borders

808Kate1 · 25/04/2023 23:42

Woolies
Kookai
Knickerbox
Au Naturale

Saschka · 25/04/2023 23:43

Topshop and Miss Selfridge. Shelley’s shoes (especially the one in Oxford Circus). Dolcis.

I wouldn’t wear those clothes now, but they were amazing in the 1990s.

Slimjimtobe · 25/04/2023 23:43

Tammy Girl (though I’m a big old now) 😆

lavenderlou · 25/04/2023 23:44

As a teen I used to live mooching around Athena to choose yet another black and white poster for my bedroom.

Hdhabvdhhebsb · 25/04/2023 23:44

Laura Ashley homeware

Sixfaithfulservingfriends · 25/04/2023 23:45

C&A

ChocChipHandbag · 25/04/2023 23:47

Debenhams! Blue cross sale days were the best.

I think I bought an outfit for every major life event in Debenhams. My Mum used to work there too and I remember going in and it being exciting to see her "on duty".

WestOfWestminster · 25/04/2023 23:47

BHS at christmas time. One year they were stacked to the rafters with chocolate body paint, it must've been the in thing.

HMV, wandering around pretty aimlessly and not buying much. Remember the listening area with headphones attached to the wall?

Woolworths, obvs. Pick n Mix.

Tammy Girl.

Also remember when Waterstones was called Ottakers?

ODFOx · 25/04/2023 23:48

I had a lovely gathered mid- calf tweed skirt with broderie anglaise trim along the bottom and shoulder straps in the early eighties. It was from Chelsea Girl. Great shop!!

Ah, "Whateverys". It was a bit of an insult when I was at school though, that and Poundies.

ChunkyCheese · 25/04/2023 23:48

Woolworths, C&A and BHS

Chelsea Girl was ace. There was a massive one in Glasgow that had a small Tammy Girl attached to it.

Needmorelego · 25/04/2023 23:50

@WestOfWestminster HMV is still going. It's really good these days. Sells a much bigger variety of stuff.

Furrybutts · 25/04/2023 23:50

WestofWestminister

HMV still exists

clockwatcher247 · 25/04/2023 23:56

I miss Woolworths so much. Mothercare & ELC. HMV. Also, The British Shoe Corporation i.e. Freeman Hardy Willis, Dolcis, Trueform, Saxone, Curtis's, Manfield etc.

Needmorelego · 25/04/2023 23:57

To be honest I don't really miss any particular shops that are now gone. They all pretty much get replaced by a similar retailer.
Woolies is gone - but B+M or Wilkos sells a lot of the stuff they sold.
Toys R Us is gone - but Smyths has taken the spot.
I'm sad when a major retailer goes bust. Sad for job losses and sad for history if they have an interesting background - but usually I forget they were there fairly quickly and just shop somewhere else.

Needmorelego · 25/04/2023 23:58

@clockwatcher247 ELC is now part of The Entertainer toy shops and you can buy their products there.
Mothercare products are now sold in some branches of Boots (although obviously not such a big range).

WestOfWestminster · 25/04/2023 23:58

What?! HMV still exists? 😮

<goes to ask for bus fare from mum & heads to the poster section at the back>

Raera · 25/04/2023 23:59

Debenhams, Evans, BHS.
And from years ago Richard shops

But the beauty of Woolies was it was on the high street and you could just nip in. It also had pick n' mix and records.

Needmorelego · 26/04/2023 00:01

@WestOfWestminster yep - they closed a lot of branches but are still going. They expanded what they sell - they have a huge vinyl range these days which is popular.
Really good shop.
