Tandy / Radio Shack
Woolworths
C & A
Littlewoods

no self service.

@808Kate1 most Wilkos are on the high street so you can just pop in and they sell pick n mix.
B+M - bigger branches are often out of town but they are also found on the high street. I don't think they sell pick and mix though.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/04/2023 00:05

Dorothy Perkins 🥲 the only shop that sold jeans that actually fit me.

Also I miss specialist art/craft/bead shops and independent haberdashery shops, only shopping and hobby craft isn’t the same.

summerfinn · 26/04/2023 00:07

Awear.... for all you fellow Irish women. Please tell me I'm not the only one that missses this shop? The sizing was accurate and the clothes were good quality and nice. Miss it so much 😭

808Kate1 · 26/04/2023 00:07

@Needmorelego They're quite (very) out the way in Scottish cities.

stepMummY1 · 26/04/2023 00:09

Debenhams - you could always count on a buy from one of the departments.
BHS for towels and duvet covers.
Laura Ashley home
From years ago Dolcis and Chelsea Girl.

Needmorelego · 26/04/2023 00:10

@808Kate1 oh I didn't know that. Down here in England they are just regular high street retailers.
Do you still have John Menzies up there? A thousand years ago I worked for them. The English stores were either closed down or converted to WHSmith.

alexdgr8 · 26/04/2023 00:13

dept stores on Oxford Street:
D H Evans, for school uniform.
also
Bourne & Hollingsworth,
Marshall & Snelgrove

Gingerkittykat · 26/04/2023 00:14

John Menzies stores in Scotland are now WH Smith too but John Menzies newspaper distribution has not changed.

I miss Woolworths, Tammy Girl/ Etam and International homewares.

You would get bullied relentlessly if you admitted to shopping in What Everyone Wanmts or Poundstretcher when I was in primary school!

Time40 · 26/04/2023 00:14

Shelley’s shoes (especially the one in Oxford Circus)

That was such a great shop; I loved it in there.

For all those saying Chelsea Girl ... it still exists - it just changed its name to River Island in the 80s (I know what you mean, though; it's not the same as it was).

Gingerkittykat · 26/04/2023 00:15

A bit niche but I also miss the Sunday markets and wandering round all the stalls.

Youdoyoubabe · 26/04/2023 00:16

Tammy Girl
Miss Selfridge
Top Shop

I discovered last week that the bead shop I used to go in aged 8 is still running, 35 years later!

Also sold incense, those little mirrored elephants, tie dye, and ugly jewelry. An 80s preteen’s dream. I used to feel so grown up every time I went in 🤣

@Needmorelego No not that I know of, well not in Glasgow or Edinburgh anyway. Think like England they mostly became WH Smiths, and even those are disappearing now, mostly just in the train stations. And you'd need to remortgage just to afford a packet of crisps and a can of juice in them now!

RobertsRadio · 26/04/2023 00:19

BHS, Woolworths, Debenhams, Topshop, Richards, Etam, Dollis.

Marcipex · 26/04/2023 00:23

Woolies. Pic’n’mix, tulip bulbs, Christmas cards, Christmas crackers…

Debenhams as it used to be.

Body Shop as it used to be. Now it’s more like Avon.

Athena.

ComputerWifeKaren · 26/04/2023 00:26

Tammy girl
Woolworths
Borders
Happy memories!

BillyNoM8s · 26/04/2023 00:32

Woolies, C&A, Etam/Tammy Girl, Bay Trading, Jane Norman, Kookai... there were a few other clothes shops of this ilk but I can't remember the names.

There was a lovely shop called Evolution in Wood Green. Sold a selection of crystals, ornaments, organza curtains and other lovely things...

Yep. AWear always.
Still have a couple of things in my wardrobe (prob vintage by now 🤔🤔)

Saschka · 25/04/2023 23:43

Topshop and Miss Selfridge. Shelley’s shoes (especially the one in Oxford Circus). Dolcis.

I wouldn’t wear those clothes now, but they were amazing in the 1990s.

Miss selfridge has closed?!? Whaaaaaatttt

i mean the last and only thing I got from there was 2015 but still it’s closed???

Appalonia · 26/04/2023 00:37

I miss shops! Online shopping just isn't the same...😣

Rustyhandlebars · 26/04/2023 00:37

Hennes was H&M, and the kids clothes were really cool European style. Same with Benetton. The Sweater Shop was another hip fashion brand that sold great quality tee shirts. Oh and Dash sold lovely sporty outdoor fashion gear. The Pier was a great boho homeware shop, lovely dinnerware, planters, cushions and throws.

Me too for fitting Dorothy Perkins.
I hate shopping now for clothes.. Because there are no actual shops for me.
I've never shopped for clothes online but now I'm forced to.
I take no pleasure in it anymore and see it as a chore now ☹️
