Behaviour that annoys you at the airport

Have taken refuge in a bar now but what behaviour annoys you at the airport?

My top 2:

People who walk passed the multiple signs at Heathrow telling them about the rules on liquids (written and pictorially) and express outrage when said liquids get confiscated or they spend ages already at the conveyor belt digging out all of their little bottles.

On the otherside of security the people who, instead of moving their tray to the little cubicles designed for the purpose, they stand at the exit to the baggage scanner putting on shoes, belts, watches etc causing a backlog through the people scanner.

Everybody, and everything at airports annoys me!

AnchorWHAT · 16/04/2023 12:38

People standing really close to the baggage reclaim belt with massive trolleys waiting for their bags blocking access to everyone whose bags are actually there, i rather rudely just push in and grab mine and oops sorry it bashed your shins as i struggled to get it off in the cm gap you have left.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 16/04/2023 12:40

People who wheel their case at a 17° degree angle to the floor so I trip over them while walking.

LlynTegid · 16/04/2023 12:48

Inadequate numbers of Borders Agency staff. Flights are known about months in advance if not longer, school holidays effectively decided years in advance, and Christmas/Easter had their dates fixed before the Montgolfier brothers became the first to fly.

Liverpool52 · 16/04/2023 12:50

Thought of another couple:

That there is no check on what carry on people are taking onboard. People arrive with a wheelie bag, hand bag and rucksack (or similar variations) and shove it all in the over head lockers and I end up with no legroom because my rucksack has to go under the seat. If checks were done to stop the CFs taking the kitchen sink into the cabin, there would be enough space for everyone. Ditto those who sit there ignoring the repeated announcements to not put their coats in the overhead bins.

The snobby fuckers who think because you're dressed in baggy trousers and a t shirt you can't possibly be travelling in business. We collect Avios and book as far ahead in advance as possible so we often get business class flights for some avios and up to £100. But the last of those flights we went on, we were waiting to board in the priorty queue and someone came toward us, dressed for a flight on the 1950s, at speed actually bellowing to get out of their way because they were group 1. I told them so were we and turned my back. But seriously.

When they announce that the gate has opened for boarding and people stampede to get in the queue...and then stand there for ages. Generally I'll only join the queue when it's moving and fairly short ie near the end. My seat has been assigned and the flight isn't taking off without me.

Münchner · 16/04/2023 12:55

Any international airport that doesn't have a bar open 24/7. Very annoying.

Violaviolin · 16/04/2023 12:59

The amount of Wheely suitcases for hand luggage - boarding is now so much longer because of it.

The utter boredom of a 2 hour wait at the airport.

The horrific food onboard any flight. They should be ashamed to serve that excuse for food.

The panic to queue up as quickly as possible - you've got a booked, specified seat and you'll be sat squashed for hours so why would you want to be onboard first?

Preboarding - what on earth is this? You are still boarding so calling it preboarding and charging for it is crazy.

The poor air stewardesses who have to wear heals and tight fitted suits. Why can't they be comfortable?

GrimDamnFanjo · 16/04/2023 13:01

I am a hand luggage one-bagger nerd.
I meticulously select the exact size bag per airline, pack using compression cubes, make sure I have the exact number of bags allowed on the plane.

Only to queue up behind people with multiple massive bags and accessories. Who are never stopped Orr have their bags measured.

I know this is deeply petty and not in the spirit but it grinds my gears on every trip!

Same I honestly don’t get why people rush. One of life’s great wonders

Pearfacebananapoop · 16/04/2023 13:02

That you now have to weigh and label your own bag. After doing online check in. Shall I just fly the bloody plane as well?

Ellmau · 16/04/2023 13:02

To get to the overhead lockers first perhaps?

Makewayforsummer · 16/04/2023 13:03

People who are disorganised at security and then proceed to find their phone, kindle, ipad, liquid ect. Make sure your organised before you get to the front of the queue.

NewYearOldCold · 16/04/2023 13:05

Not really knowing what's acceptable frustrates me...

Flew from two airports this week. One wanted everything to stay in bags and allowed drinks over 100ml through (I had several thermos cups of coffee and bottles of water - limited options and high prices past security and no water fountain).

Airport two - said it could all stay in the bags but then our bag was sent back to start to have everything opened up and removed to rescan.

Our usual scan fail is for batteries and wires - we carry 4 battery packs, one chunky extension lead and about 20 USB wires. Maybe better to separate but I like to know where they all are for the flight.

I wish everywhere had the newer advanced scanners.

In all my 25+ years of flying I’ve never heard an announcement about not putting coats in overhead lockers. Is it a specific airline?
where are you supposed to put them?

JassyGoon · 16/04/2023 13:05

More people seem to do this than not now, or at least it feels that way. Frequent traveller here and it's very irritating.

MelchiorsMistress · 16/04/2023 13:07

I love being able to take a cabin case on board and not having to wait for baggage reclaim at the other end! I do put my case under the seat in front of me though so it makes no difference to anyone else.

The people that annoy me at airports are the ones who dither about taking up too much space at security because they don’t know what they’re doing.

caffelattetogo · 16/04/2023 13:07

Men who push to the front at the baggage carousel and jostle other passengers with their oversized luggage.

LiftyLift · 16/04/2023 13:09

I used to be cabin crew, so can navigate airports and be through security in a flash. I have to remember airports aren’t everyday experiences for some and to try and be patient, but it comes with great difficulty!

This is my biggest pet hate. The last flight I went on they asked the people at the back of the plan to board first. We were right at the back of the plane. So many people got up straight away and queued so we couldn't even get on. We then had to squeeze past everyone to get on.

We had this on a couple of short haul flights recently, two different airlines.
They said it was because they needed the overhead lockers for suitcases as it was a fully booked flight.
Coats had to be folded up and put under the seat in front space, as did smaller handbags.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/04/2023 13:12

I fly most weeks and have it down to a fine art, so anyone that gets in my way annoys me, principally the not having your liquids ready thing. But am adept at speeding around people and suspect I have a real get out of my way face because people do.

But most airlines do check luggage at the gate OP - not diligently but mostly - so their wheelies are allowed on. The cheaper airlines charge for an extra cabin bag, the others allow two. The airlines expect you to use the space under the seat in front as well as the overheads.

actually the lack of water fountains annoys me. I know it clobbers concession profits but it’s a huge thing the airports could do.

TreeByLeaf · 16/04/2023 13:13

Just back from long haul flight in economy. Walked through premium economy to disembark, and couldn’t believe the mess the passengers had left. Seriously , it was a dump, whereas economy was really clean. You’ve paid extra for your seat , it doesn’t entitle you to be a messy pita and make life hard for the flight crew. The crew walk through regularly to take rubbish. Just give it to them ! Also why can’t all airports be like Singapore. So efficient and lovely.

They often do it because of the cheeky fuckers with their enormous wheeled "cabin bags" who take up the space. Coats are often moved down to their owners on full flights.

@Liverpool52 Mine is the utterly predictable faffing around of The Family Travelling Together ™️ How hard is it to sit the fuck in your seat and stay there. You're on a 2 hour shorthaul not an expedition to fucking Jupiter.

They do now, because lots of people bring two cases so smaller stuff goes under the seat. You can just ignore it though, I do.
