Behaviour that annoys you at the airport

Have taken refuge in a bar now but what behaviour annoys you at the airport?

My top 2:

People who walk passed the multiple signs at Heathrow telling them about the rules on liquids (written and pictorially) and express outrage when said liquids get confiscated or they spend ages already at the conveyor belt digging out all of their little bottles.

On the otherside of security the people who, instead of moving their tray to the little cubicles designed for the purpose, they stand at the exit to the baggage scanner putting on shoes, belts, watches etc causing a backlog through the people scanner.

Anyone with cabin baggage - trips you up, slows you down. Then you get the toiletries issues - Trying to cram all your toiletries into one tiny bag. Faffing about. Know the routine at security - its not difficult. Large parties constantly moving seats - its a 2 hour flight - calm down and sit down. You don't have to speak to each other the whole time.

On a recent flight I had a small backpack, tiny handbag, laptop, iPad, winter coat and boots (removed). It took up three trays. Sometimes there’s no option but to stand there scrabbling around for your stuff.

Nope. You quickly tip/pile all your stuff into 1 tray they carry that tray to the booth.

Errr nope, they don’t all arrive in succession! On a busy day there’s up to six people putting their luggage through at the same time, I might get one tray then the next three are other people’s. Yes, I do move my things to one tray but I’m not leaving until all my stuff is through. And I’m not “tipping” my laptop anywhere thanks. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cattle prods! Great idea

kitsuneghost · 16/04/2023 17:18

Wheelie bags and people trying to use them to squish a week's worth of clothes and toiletries in. Tight c**nts.
Get you bag snd toiletries in the hold and stop holding up the queue with your stupid liquid bags and battering people with a suitcase when hauling them down onto people's heads at the end of the flight.

They should get rid of overhead lockers and limit hand luggage to handbag size.

Everyone standing up the moment the plane stops moving.

I stand up as soon as the plane stops, not because I think I’ll get off any earlier but because I have sciatica and I’ve usually spent the last couple of hours in fucking agony!

When they announce that the gate has opened for boarding and people stampede to get in the queue...and then stand there for ages. Generally I'll only join the queue when it's moving and fairly short ie near the end. My seat has been assigned and the flight isn't taking off without me.

That was always my attitude until a flight last year when they were a flight attendant down and 20 people were prevented from boarding. Fortunately I wasn't one of those people but I don't hang around now.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 16/04/2023 17:25

I dont understand the trunky hate. They were an absolute godsend when our dc were smaller. I dont remember hitting any ankles, not even our own.

Ah see I do understand this, if you are travelling with only cabin baggage (and don't have enough time at the other end to risk your bags being put in the hold) it makes sense to get in the queue and on the plane as soon as possible so you can be sure to secure space in the overhead bin

TBF that sounds good until you are flying multiple times a month/week…time waiting at the baggage belt after ever sector soon adds up.

That doesn’t excuse trying to carry the kitchen sink onboard and I would agree that some people need to be a bit more chuffing careful when handling their carry on.

Well, that is deeply unpleasant. If you are generally so sour and I’ll-tempered, it can’t be nice for anyone to be seated next to you.

BlackberrySky · 16/04/2023 17:28

I'll stop taking cabin baggage when airlines stop consistently losing my luggage. After three trips in a row with lost bags, I doubt I'll go back to checked baggage.

Flavabobble · 16/04/2023 17:32

My favourite is when the trays are backed up right to the x-ray scanner and they'll be stood holding their tray in place on the rollers waiting for the rest of their stuff. They stare at the scanner as if it's going to hover over the top of the other trays - there's no room, there's nothing moving anywhere until you and everyone else shifts your/their tray!

CordyLines · 16/04/2023 17:37

I'd like to load my hold luggage myself Grin You know, go out to the steps with your bags and put them on the conveyor into the hold of YOUR aircraft. No losing them to the wrong airport then.

I think!

Your fattist comments make me hope she lifted her "flabby" leg and farted in your face tbf.

LOL. I'm not particularly slim myself so know that there's a way to sit when in close proximity to others so as to not offend or inconvenience them. That doesn't include purposely leaning on the person in the next seat. She was going out of her way to be rude.

DuesToTheDirt · 16/04/2023 17:43

DoraSpenlow · 16/04/2023 13:43

Sorry, slight derail but I thought you were supposed put your small bags under your own seat? If everyone puts their stuff under the seat in front, where do the people in the front rows put their stuff?

Used to holiday with friends where the husband would hurtle at breakneck speed down to the departure lounge as soon it appeared on the board. We would then sit there for about an hour and as soon as boarding commenced he would be like a greyhound out of a trap and then huff and puff about the wait before take off.

Small bags definitely go under the seat in front, otherwise you're interfering with the leg room of the person behind you. Don't know what happens re the front seat, but I think there is more leg room there anyway. One time I had nowhere to put mine as the twits in front of me had put their bags under their seats and taken all the space, but when the cabin crew came round doing their checks they made these people move their bags.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 17:44

I will admit that I was the one struggling with the bio metric passport machine at 1am in the morning.
I did it ok going out, but my brain seemed to just freeze and my feet were not properly on the yellow markers. I was tired ( in my defense)
The more confused I I felt ( by the woman tutting behind me ) the more I just messed it up and that big red x just kept on flashing at me
So I guess I'm the sort of person that people moan about on these threads ! Lol 😂
( I did get out , eventually)

SmudgeButt · 16/04/2023 17:45

I also dislike people who are rude to the cabin crew - you know that on the ground they are also crap tippers and hopefully have waiting staff regularly spitting in their salad.

I also would have liked to have slapped the people that literally pushed one travelling companion aside as due to needing to walk with a cane she was taking too long to get to a seat.

DuesToTheDirt · 16/04/2023 17:46

I loathe this setup, which I have only seen at my local airport - all others I've been to you organise your stuff in place straight after the conveyor belts. If you have to move to cubicles you often have to transport 2 trays of potentially heavy stuff to somewhere where there is not enough space. I wonder what elderly or infirm people do here.

jellycakeandicecream · 16/04/2023 17:46

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 17:01

I think that the cabin crew should make people wait to get off the plane ; at least do it by rows or something like that. I guess they have enough to do, but there must be a way around this stampede to get off the plane.

Flew with Jet2 last week, and they disembark row by row.

notimagain · 16/04/2023 17:46

@DuesToTheDirt

Usual rule is front row hand-baggage must go in an overhead locker..nothing on the floor.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 17:48

You can have bags in front of you on some flights. I guess some airlines have different rules, but I did this last year on a package tour flight and nobody said anything , as long as it's tucked away , not too big etc

Milksheikha · 16/04/2023 17:50

Flew a short commuter flight last week with my son in the window and me in the middle seat on a window row. The passenger who stuffed.themselve in the aisle sear was so utterly huge they needed a XXL extension belt. They were uncomfortably tilted sideways but masses of them was touching me the seat in front and spilling in the aisle. I couldn't even lower the arm rest or MY seats tray table .
On arrival , the passenger was so wedged in place , they waited till everyone was off before levering out . My son, desperate for the loo climbed over the seats in front to get out . Surely a passenger of such volume is safety issue ?
