Behaviour that annoys you at the airport

Have taken refuge in a bar now but what behaviour annoys you at the airport?

My top 2:

People who walk passed the multiple signs at Heathrow telling them about the rules on liquids (written and pictorially) and express outrage when said liquids get confiscated or they spend ages already at the conveyor belt digging out all of their little bottles.

On the otherside of security the people who, instead of moving their tray to the little cubicles designed for the purpose, they stand at the exit to the baggage scanner putting on shoes, belts, watches etc causing a backlog through the people scanner.

Airports make me hate people so much…

Paying to use a lounge and having to listen to the greatest hits of Moana because some parents can’t stand to make their kids wear headphones or turn the volume down.

People who are shocked at security at having to unpack their electronics.

The inexplicable queue when the gates open, and people who aren’t in group one trying to get through first.

On a recent flight I had a small backpack, tiny handbag, laptop, iPad, winter coat and boots (removed). It took up three trays. Sometimes there’s no option but to stand there scrabbling around for your stuff.

Nope. You quickly tip/pile all your stuff into 1 tray they carry that tray to the booth.

But you need to wait for all your trays to appear as they get separated. I think I had six trays... plus the kids stuff...

Easy with a group, tricky by yourself. Fortunately my children can now help.

FrangipaniBlue · 16/04/2023 15:17

Then travel lighter 😂

wizzywig · 16/04/2023 15:21

Kids on those trunkies: you're irritating me.
Being brown so all staff think I'm a terrorist

teneastereggs · 16/04/2023 15:34

Doesn't annoy me especially as it doesn't affect me, but I don't get why people need to walk round the airport with pillows around their necks.

SirChenjins · 16/04/2023 15:48

It’s the easiest place to keep your pillow for the hours-long flight ahead Confused

daisydalrymple · 16/04/2023 15:50

I was last at an airport 17 years ago for our honeymoon. So I would LOVE to be annoyed at an airport right now 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣 but fingers crossed we will finally be going to Greece this summer, so hopefully I’ll be feeling your wrath in a few months 🤞🏻 😂 ✈️

I was annoyed just hearing about my elderly DPs flight within the UK to visit relatives a few years ago.

I recommended that they book something in the middle of the day to avoid security queues- they booked for the morning because it was slightly cheaper ( they have significant savings and good pensions).

Also told them to book a checked in bag to avoid having to lug it round the airport- again did not take my advice and booked a cabin bag only to save money, then complained that the air hostess wasn't very helpful about putting it in the overhead lockers Hmm.

They also complained at security that the attendants took them to one side because of DFs diabetes needles and DM seemed to think that the staff should be experts in diabetic requirements.

Oh and then on the way back, rather than leaving the car at ours so I could pick them up ( we live 10 miles from the airport) they got two buses to a park and ride where they had left the car half way ( because it was free) turning an hour's journey into a three hour one.

Mind you not as bad as my aunt ( again loaded with excellent pension) who took a flight via Heathrow rather than flying directly because it was £50 cheaper.

Has anyone mentioned how annoying it is when having to deal with people travelling with children? (dons hard hat) (see below)

The worst are the people around you on a plane.

The very large woman seated next to me who took off her shoes and then sat cross legged so I had her stinky foot pressed against my leg. (yes I asked her to move and ended up with her purposely pressing her flabby sweaty arm against mine while she huffed and muttered curses under her breath) (& yes I was so pleased when we hit turbulence and she was shit scared)

The 2 very unpleasant people that were talking all night long on a long haul flight about how much they hated the UK and weren't sure why they were bothering to travel there. 2 complete strangers talking to each other and doing the "oh you know what's worse?" thing talking about how dreadful fish and chips are, why can't the English drive on the right side of the road, how stupid is cricket, the beer is dreadful, too expensive etc etc etc. So why are you travelling to the UK?? Apparently the bloke was flying to London "for fun" at least once a month!

And actually the nicest people I've seen on a flight were a mother with 2 youngish children (under 10) & triplets about 2 yo. She had them well under control, kept them quiet and entertained & the kids were all a delight. The cabin crew went out of their way to help, which was barely needed, I think because they appreciated who marvellous they were. I know myself and everyone around me groaned out loud when we saw them board and were astonished at their amazingly good behaviour.

I'm still waiting for BA to get back to me on why my British daughter travelling out of Gatwick on her British passport was stopped and held back and first told her "visa" had "run out" and when she said she didn't have, or need a visa, the BA employee said to her "how did you get this passport?" When DD (18 and getting flustered by this point) said "what do you mean?" the woman said "do you even speak English?"

Your fattist comments make me hope she lifted her "flabby" leg and farted in your face tbf.

When they announce that the gate has opened for boarding and people stampede to get in the queue...and then stand there for ages. Generally I'll only join the queue when it's moving and fairly short ie near the end. My seat has been assigned and the flight isn't taking off without me.

There is not enough room in the overhead lockers. So if you need space for your bag, you can't be last on.

TeresaCrowd · 16/04/2023 16:30

Trunkies are bad but those scooters with the suitcase box on the front are even worse and can get straight in a bin.

People who stop at the bottom of escalators. This is annoying at the best of times but particularly at airports when the people coming down behind them all have suitcases, or even worse, skis. Then it’s only going one way which is bag ploughing into the shins of the moron who couldn’t step to the side.

Faffers. I don’t think it’s any particular part of the airport process that is the issue it’s that some people are just disorganised and generally not efficient, and thus can cause massive hold ups at any of the steps.

I am looking forward to the new scanners so you can finally take a drink with you. Bottle of coke in Smiths airside is daylight robbery!!

CordyLines · 16/04/2023 16:32

Neck pillows are now apparently being used to pack travel items, like a holdall around your neck. No checks, no weighing - genius if you are only taking an underseat bag.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/04/2023 16:34

People walking 3,4 abreast through the duty free shop at the pace of a glacier. Some of us want to get to the bar have flights to catch

earsup · 16/04/2023 16:40

I like sitting and watching those who queue at the gate when the aircraft hasnt even landed yet...some twats stand for 3 hours....bonkers....we sit with book and coffee and board as queue is down to about 10 people.

RollingInTheAisles · 16/04/2023 16:44

Plane not airport, but people who stand in the aisles with their bum practically in your face. People with long hair in the seat in front that swish it everywhere over the back of their seat and your TV screen.

Oh that bum in the face annoys me so much. On the last flight I was on, the woman across the aisle from me had to get off the plane as fast as humanly possible so jumped up to get her stuff as soon as the plane stopped and then stood there with her bags pressed into my arm/ head for a good 15 minutes.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 17:01

I think that the cabin crew should make people wait to get off the plane ; at least do it by rows or something like that. I guess they have enough to do, but there must be a way around this stampede to get off the plane.

drpet49 · 16/04/2023 17:02

Tipsy/ drunk people. Idiots.

midsomermurderess · 16/04/2023 17:10

@the80sweregreat Every plane I’ve been on in the last few years cabin crew do get people to get of by row.

Srin · 16/04/2023 17:11

Airports are badly designed and airlines are terrible for customers.

  1. Why haven’t we got the scanners, that loads of countries have, that can just scan liquids in your bag and there is no limit to the amount you take?
  2. As airlines charge so much extra to put luggage in the hold, why do their staff pretend to be completely mystified when the overhead lockers fill up.
  3. As airlines regularly lose your luggage, why are they surprised when people want to take it with them?
  4. Why do they employ such useless architects to design airports in the uk and then fill all the inadequate space with shops that sell overpriced crap?

…. I could go on, but I do think your annoyance is directed at the wrong people. If spaces and systems are badly designed they won’t work well for the people using them.

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 17:12

Last flight we took last year a man was up and down the aisles all the bloody time standing with his builder's bum hanging out in my dh's face picking away at his pants ( it was gross) his wife was in a different aisle to him and he kept leaning over to speak to her.
It was only a short flight , sit in your designated chair ffs!!
Some people just don't care
An ex travel rep I met once told me people only go on holiday to moan , I can believe this too the way people carry on!

the80sweregreat · 16/04/2023 17:14

Last flight I took in the uk to Spain they didn't do the rows thing to get off !
I'm not a frequent flyer, so I hope it has changed since last year

At least one airline did that when travel was picking up post Covid but some restrictions such as mask wearing were still in place…I think it generally worked because people were still understood the need for the restrictions.

Tough to maintain that sort of discipline now, short of issuing cattle prods.
