DragonbornMum....that is tough.
Just keep counting down the days ...
It is not forever .
Sympathies though.

MissConductUS · 31/03/2023 21:07

Happy end of term, Helena. Well done. DS and I may go out to dinner tonight too as DH has to work late.

Bizzy, we've all done things like that. That sounds like the kind of injury that just has to heal on it's own.

Today is my 29th anniversary since I quit drinking. How I did that with two kids, I'll never know. 😀

bizzey · 31/03/2023 21:45

Wow !
29 years MissConductUS !!
That is some achievement!

Helena enjoy that end of term feeling !
Think I use to be more excited than the DC's when we got 1/2 terms and end of terms !

NancyJoan · 31/03/2023 21:48

Hello. My new passport arrived earlier. Despite my panic about impending strikes, it only took 9 days.

DD found out she passed her singing exam today. She now has letters after her name!

Lemonsandlemonade · 31/03/2023 22:06

Have a good break Helena.

I had a complement today which was lovely.

2 weeks holiday for me. Can’t wait no alarm.

Silkierabbit · 31/03/2023 22:41

MissC They are currently saying they will only do a special school or alternative like a farm school for 5 year old and they say that all special schools came back as no availability first time. Now they claim 1 said no availability but will meet and a final one will meet but they don't know if they will offer. In the interim they seem to have devised a plan without asking us that everyone and his dog visits our house which will distress DS and DH needs to wfh and I will have another op and also I don't want our house turned into Piccidally Circus. And it's so annoying they don't ask. Having said that in reality probably none of these people will turn up as there's no funding.

I had a CT scan booked in today for my diep operation that's on 5th April with operation about 40 weeks later.

Had disability discrimination case against school today, results in 2 weeks though me against an expensive legal barrister.

Had ds for yesterday and today am.

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter break.

Acornsandleaves · 31/03/2023 23:05

Silkie your holiday sounded lovely. Sorry to hear the education meeting didn't go well, how frustrating that they're not listening to you

Prok hope you're feeling ok and the neuropathy is settling down

Bizzey hope your foot feels better soon

Helena that sounds like a fab evening, happy holidays!

I've had a nice peaceful day doing housework and I've been for a run (I'm doing couch to 5k). The kids broke up for Easter today and we're looking forward to going to Disneyland Paris next week, can't wait!

Acornsandleaves · 31/03/2023 23:07

Congratulations to your daughter Nancy!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/04/2023 03:22

👏congratulations!!!! 💖

sproutsandparsnips · 01/04/2023 11:49

Congratulations Miss and NancyJoan's daughter.
Sending Flowers to Silkie.
Holidays for DC but not for me, we also had DS report final one ever, now just got the last push to GCSEs.
DS2 had his school production performances this week so he is exhausted but was worth it as they were so good - some fabulous talent on show.
Just going to go and cook post match food for 50 people......

MissConductUS · 01/04/2023 12:41

Welcome, @NancyJoan, and thanks for sharing your news. My DD just applied for a passport as she wants to go to Israel after Christmas. Passports are terribly backed up here as so many people are trying to travel now that most travel restrictions are gone. She(we) paid for expedited processing, which was really expensive. Congratulations to your DD on her new degree!

Silkie, I suspected sorting the education challenge was going to be worse than getting him out of hospital, but I didn't think it would be that bad.

Sprouts, well done to your DS2. What are you going to make for 50 people?

I woke up feeling like I have a bit of a head cold, but it's probably my spring allergies getting started.

OP posts:
HildaTablet · 01/04/2023 13:57

Wow, 50 people, Sprout? Rather you than me….

Sorry to hear you’ve been plunged back into frustration over DS, Silkie

Enjoy the holidays, Lemons, you deserve them.

DH is still testing positive for Covid but other than feeling tired and coughing a bit, he’s got it quite mildly, I think. I still haven’t got it! We’re effectively living apart in different bits of the house and I’m heartily fed up with it by now, especially since this was a week off from work for me and I’ve just had to spend it skulking round on my own wearing a mask. At least my horrible not-Covid cold is starting to recede very slightly. Just in time for me to go to work on Monday….😡

I'm about to go into my greenhouse and sow some seeds…cavolo nero, leeks and red peppers. My tomato seedlings are doing OK but I’ll probably supplement with a few plants of a very tasty variety I tried for the first time last year. I’ve got beans to sow in a few weeks and I might have some sweetcorn this year too.

Silkierabbit · 01/04/2023 14:06

Hope you have a wonderful trip to Disneyland Paris Acorns

Well done to your DS Sprouts and hope cooking goes OK, that's impressive.

Hope your DD can get her passport quickly MissC and be off on her travels. Hope you feel better soon.

Hope your DH and you are feeling better soon Hilda

Cleaners are here atm.

Welcome, @MarshaMelrose, and thanks for sharing your canine and NHS news. What breed of dog is it? I'm sorry to hear your mum is finding it so challenging to get something as simple as an iron infusion. I confess that I don't know why the NHS is struggling so badly. As an American, it's a bit of a mystery to me.

Bizzey, did the problem with your foot start spontaneously or did you bang it up somehow? Is there visible swelling or tenderness to the touch? By the way, I posted the wrong link yesterday about my local area. It should have been this - Hudson Highlands

Mr and Mrs Duck seem to have settled in at the reservoir for the season.

Thanks for the welcome, @MissConductUS. It's lovely to join in pleasant chats

The NHS is a mystery to all of us. To be fair. 😄 In my case it's admin based. The hospital want her to have the treatment. The gp has okayed the treatment. But the receptionists say they can't find evidence of permission so won't give an appointment. It's bonkers. My dad died because of admin issues too. But I'm not going to commenting it anymore. It depresses me and, anyway, mum's getting treatment next week so my tears obviously worked. 😉

Happier news. My gorgeous boy is a Westie cross. So cute and he knows it. He gets plaudits wherever he goes. In fact, he gets so much attention that if someone, quite reasonably, ignores him, he gets very confused. But there's always someone else to tell him how good looking he is, so he's not down for long. 😂 He's watching me longingly at the moment, so I guess it's time for a walk! 🚶‍♀️🐕

Deathraystare · 01/04/2023 16:36

@NancyJoan

Congrats Nancyjoan's DD. What letters has she now after her name? La la la or Do Re Mi? Haha!

Deathraystare · 01/04/2023 16:38

@HildaTablet

I wish I had a garden to grow veg. When I lived in SOuth East London I had a 'handkerchief hem' garden and grew veg in pots. Some more successful than others!

HildaTablet · 01/04/2023 16:43

@Deathraystare we are really lucky to have a garden. I used to be much more geared up with veg growing but the last few years have been difficult for various reasons and I’m trying to get back into it. Are you able to grow anything at all, in hanging baskets maybe?

user1498572889 · 01/04/2023 16:59

Got a new phone just spent the most boring hour setting it up.

MissConductUS · 01/04/2023 17:46

Welcome, @user1498572889, and thanks for sharing your phone configuration news. What phone did you get?

I have a lot of garden space outdoors, but I can't grow veg out there because the wildlife will eat it, especially the bloody deer. I can grow veg in containers on the deck but mainly stuck to flowers last summer. I haven't planned out the plantings for this year yet, as it's still too cold to get started.

OP posts:
HildaTablet · 01/04/2023 18:37

We spotted a deer in next door's garden recently, MissC - much to our surprise, as we didn’t think they were in our little corner of the world. There are deer not far away from us in a well-known forest area, and often seen, but our houses are right on the conjunction of town and fields/countryside and we assumed they wouldn’t have found their way out here.

Neighbour shrugged when we mentioned it and said yes, they’re often there. We’ve never seen a single one round this way in 20 years of living here!

user1498572889 · 01/04/2023 19:08

@MissConductUS
Thank you. I got an IPhone 13. I only ever change my phone when the old one breaks probably about every 5 years.

mathanxiety · 01/04/2023 19:53

We had quite a storm last night, but thankfully, there's no damage that I can see. I'll be out later and hope I'm right in general. The wind simply roared for a spell of about ten minutes, followed by calm. They showed nothing but weather all evening on TV.

I've officially killed one of the plants I took in for the winter last autumn. I'll reuse the potting soil to start some flower seeds indoors. I'd love to see if I can get sunflowers sprouted and hardened off in time to produce blooms on the deck this summer.

DS has started making lists of what he'll need in order to set up home when he leaves for his residency, and has been in contact with a rental agent. He's pretty excited to be on his way and into an actual bedroom of his own - he's been sleeping snoring really loudly in a partitioned-off alcove of the dining room, which hasn't been ideal for anyone.

sproutsandparsnips · 01/04/2023 22:16

You sound very green fingered Hilda - we grow tomatoes but other than that I find it all goes to seed before we can use it...
I made pasta bake - it was a bit of a juggling act in the oven as I had to heat the garlic bread too but went down very well, none left at all!

MissConductUS · 01/04/2023 23:13

Math, the storm you had last night is due here in the next two hours or so, so we are grilling burgers a bit early to get that done before it arrives. We have a severe thunderstorm watch tonight. When does your DS start his residency, and what city will he be moving to?

The Girl Scout cookies have arrived. I bought two boxes (thin mints and Tagalongs) from two scouts and their mums who set up shop outside of the supermarket this morning.

I'm getting to be the same way with phones, @user1498572889. The only reason I replaced my Apple watch was because the battery was shot and they can't be replaced. I'm using an iPhone 11 that I hope to get two more years out of. I may need to replace the battery before then.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 02/04/2023 00:49

Not a city as such Smile He's heading to a hospital in eastern KY, in the heart of the poorest bit of the Appalachian region. Prior to med school, he worked in a clinic with patient profiles similar to those of the patients he will encounter in his residency, and he enjoyed the experience. Lots of chronic illness, lots of effects of drug and alcohol abuse, smoking, poor diet, injuries that got dirt rubbed into them instead of being treated, etc.

Apartments are thin on the ground there and he was dreading having to drive there and scout around on his own - so he was thrilled to be able to find a rental agent, and I believe has this afternoon agreed to a 12 month lease on the apartment he saw photos of. It's recently refurbished and has a lovely kitchen, washer and dryer, front porch, parking spot, fiberoptic broadband, heat, AC and ceiling fans, and it's furnished (sparsely) so he'll only have to bring his desk and swivel chair, and his own mattress, plus lamps, kitchen gear, ironing board, and a few appliances.

Getting him there with a truck full of furniture and other personal belongings and getting his car there too was beginning to look like a very difficult proposition as there would be two people involved, and one would have to get home again with no car. There's no airport for miles. This looks as if it solves all the logistical problems and lets DS put the question of where to live behind him. Plus rent is incredibly cheap and includes utilities.

Hope the storm will have lost a good deal of its intensity by the time it hits you, MissC. It really was loud here.
