Not a city as such
He's heading to a hospital in eastern KY, in the heart of the poorest bit of the Appalachian region. Prior to med school, he worked in a clinic with patient profiles similar to those of the patients he will encounter in his residency, and he enjoyed the experience. Lots of chronic illness, lots of effects of drug and alcohol abuse, smoking, poor diet, injuries that got dirt rubbed into them instead of being treated, etc.
Apartments are thin on the ground there and he was dreading having to drive there and scout around on his own - so he was thrilled to be able to find a rental agent, and I believe has this afternoon agreed to a 12 month lease on the apartment he saw photos of. It's recently refurbished and has a lovely kitchen, washer and dryer, front porch, parking spot, fiberoptic broadband, heat, AC and ceiling fans, and it's furnished (sparsely) so he'll only have to bring his desk and swivel chair, and his own mattress, plus lamps, kitchen gear, ironing board, and a few appliances.
Getting him there with a truck full of furniture and other personal belongings and getting his car there too was beginning to look like a very difficult proposition as there would be two people involved, and one would have to get home again with no car. There's no airport for miles. This looks as if it solves all the logistical problems and lets DS put the question of where to live behind him. Plus rent is incredibly cheap and includes utilities.
Hope the storm will have lost a good deal of its intensity by the time it hits you, MissC. It really was loud here.
