Math and Miss, your storms must be part of that tornado system I saw on the news? Math, glad you are past it. A definite new chapter for your son in KY. Good for him. Miss, I remember selling GG cookies when I was little for $1 p/box. 😂
Lazy day here today. Managed to finally get Havoc down for a nap at 2pm. We both slept until 5pm. It has been a very busy week of activities every day so no guilt here... did manage a load of laundry first thing this morning and now going to make dinner.
Oh, have the tv news on.... they're reporting on the storms down south. 😬

IWanderedLonely · 02/04/2023 09:24

We went out last night to a Greek restaurant, very unusual for us. It was very nice and I still feel full this morning.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 02/04/2023 09:26

Very dull but still news, I got my first full nights of sleep since ds7 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just under 3 weeks ago. It was great. I feel like I have enough energy to finally clean my house properly today.

bizzey · 02/04/2023 14:54

Wow MeMyBooks that must have been so stressful to get that news.
Glad you had a good sleep.
How is your DS coping/understanding the news?

MissConductUS · 02/04/2023 17:16

Welcome, @MeMyBooksAndMyCats, and thanks for sharing your news and joining the thread. I'm so sorry to hear about your DS's diagnosis, but glad you finally got some sleep. Seven is really young to be dealing with something like that. What type of blood sugar monitor have they given him to use?

Math, that sounds like a very good residency for him. I'm sure he'll be happy to have his own place, but he's probably not going to be spending much time there. During the storm last night, DS got the burgers on the grill before the rain started, then had to take an umbrella with him to flip them off the grill. It was windy, but no thunder.

Mum, the girl scout cookies are now $5 per box, and I swear the boxes get smaller every year.

I went to IKEA this afternoon and bought two new hand towels and a rug for the hall. Wanted a plant, but they didn’t have any I liked.

Acornsandleaves · 02/04/2023 19:54

Ooh I love a trip to IKEA Nancy!

mathanxiety · 02/04/2023 21:31

Yes, true, MissC - he is ten minutes from the hospital and will be lucky if he can find his way back home initially.

We're heading to Ikea to get some kitchen ware for DS in a couple of weekends. I haven't been since 2019 and I can't wait.

MissConductUS · 02/04/2023 22:41

There's no Ikea within a reasonable drive from me, so I haven't been to one in many years. Do they still serve Swedish meatballs?

OP posts:
MarshaMelrose · 02/04/2023 23:16

They serve them in the restaurant, or you can get them as a takeaway or you can buy them in the shop to cook at home. IKEA don't like to miss a sales opportunity! 😆

bizzey · 02/04/2023 23:32

I am so glad I don't live near an IKEA .
I can imagine for me it would be like when I go into Poundshop for one item and come out with 3 bags of stuff ...cos ...well...it was only a pound 🤣🤣.

I would come home with a whole load of new kitchen utensils...just because they look nicer than my old well used ones !!

bizzey · 02/04/2023 23:47

@MissConductUS can I ask if you don't mind ...
Are you from US and living there now ?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/04/2023 23:49

I took Havoc swimming this morning - and it was busier than I anticipated for a Sunday morning. I had been hoping to wake up to a dusting of spring snow as it was forecasted to snow overnight, but it didn't. Instead, we had quite a downpour during the drive home with some hail. I made pancakes for lunch, some with coconut and some with chic chips and had mixed berries and sliced banana on the side. I also put a nice smear of pistachio spread (the pistachio, and far superior, version of Nutella) on one pancake and it was amazing. 😛 Other than doing a bit of laundry I'm considering a hour nap until I need to start dinner and Havoc has just fallen asleep, so that might be a good idea ...

Miss, I had the Ikea meatballs for lunch after shopping about...5 years ago??? I remember the lunch was quite good. 😛😛😛

Nancy, what type of singing exam?

Sprout, how did the cooking go? What did you make?

I was born and raised in an area of New York called the Hudson Highlands and still live there. It's sort of borderline suburban/rural. The train to midtown Manhattan takes about 55 minutes, so not that bad a commute. I worked in the city for many years, but now I have a job much closer to home. It's really lovely here. DH grew up in nearby Connecticut but has been a NY'er for many years. My ancestry is mostly Irish, and his is primarily English. DD is at uni in Massachusettes with one year to go, DS graduated from uni last year and moved home. He has a job in the city but mostly works from home. Where are you from, bizzey?

Mum, those pancakes sound fab!

MIL wasn't feeling well enough to join our weekly zoom call, but we had a nice catchup with DD. She got her summer internship offer in our area, so will be spending the summer with us for the first time since she went to uni.

MissConductUS
I am from London.
I was only asking as this time last year DS was " only " about 4-5 hours away from you 🤣🤣.

He was on a placement at Pennsylvania University!

He loved his time across the pond, and managed to fit in quite a bit of visits to other places as well.

Wiped out his little inheritance fund ...but hey what the heck!

I got very good on the US time zone while he was there .
Luckily I am a bit of a night owl ( as you can tell!!) so we had quite a few chats at my 2am 🤣

bizzey · 03/04/2023 01:07

Wish this thread was around then !

bizzey · 03/04/2023 01:08

Looks amazing!

MissConductUS · 03/04/2023 01:35

So was he at the University of Pennsylvania or Penn State? Both are fab universities. I attend an annual conference in Philadelphia and always look forward to going.

I've never been to the UK, but before we met DH worked in London for almost a year and loved it. He loved in Knightsbridge and worked in the financial district. I hope we'll go as tourists, probably after we retire. He has many stories about how lovely the Brits were while he was there. He had to work over Thanksgiving and probably moaned about missing the holiday, so his colleagues found an American restaurant that served a traditional Thanksgiving meal and took him there for a long, boozy lunch. He was single at the time, so I've avoided asking him whether he had a British girlfriend while he was there.

Penn State .

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 03/04/2023 02:23

Congrats to your daughter MissC, that is great news!

NancyJoan · 03/04/2023 07:54

@Mumtobabyhavoc Its a Performance Diploma in Musical Theatre, the one that comes after the Grade 8. There are four you can do, this is the first one, she’s hoping to fit in one more before she finishes school this time next year.

NancyJoan · 03/04/2023 07:56

@bizzey It’s lethal living just 15 mins from an IKEA! So easy to pop in on the way home from somewhere else and spend £50 on nothing much.

bizzey · 03/04/2023 12:16

@NancyJoan that's amazing that she has got that before finishing school.
Is she going to go on to do PA / Theatre course next year ?

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/04/2023 16:38

Trying to catch up. Have gone away for two nights for my birthday. Lovely cold day today we took DS to the beach.

DS loved it.

Had a poor and expensive lunch nearly £50 for some very mediocre sandwiches. I wash shocked

Happy birthday Lemons Lovely photo.

Well done to your DD MissC

A Greek meal sounds lovely Iwandered

More meetings re DS with awful plans. I got so depressed I googled leaving the country and discovered an article that if you move to a mountain village in Spain you get paid to do so. Googled some houses and they are very cheap with mountain views. Almost no people. Tempting. 😂
