Baby names that will never make a come back

I think there was a thread along these lines a few months ago but I couldn't find it so I thought I'd start another one.

Here are a few of the names that my friends' parents were called when I was growing up that I can't imagine anyone ever calling a baby........

Elaine
Yvonne
Jackie
Sheila
Pat
Pauline
Tina
Joan

Mark
Paul
Ray
Nigel
Alan
Ken
Neville
Brian

I also thought about highly unlikely names for baby twins in 2023 and came up with a few....

Malcolm and Wendy
Jason and Sandra
Russell and Paula
Gary and Judith

Any others?

Apologies if anyone has named their child any of the above - I just think it would be quite unusual to hear a baby with one of them.

Sharon
Susan

They will come around eventually. Maybe in 20 years.

Adolf probably won’t make a come back. I imagine Boris is undesirable.

Karen (unfortunately, it's a nice name)

VivaciousRadish · 26/03/2023 20:31

Brenda and Colin?

I would have said Cuthbert, but I know someone who plans to call their baby that. Cubby for short

I could see Tina and Ray making a comeback quite soon.

I met a baby Bruce not long ago, which was a surprise but it suited him!

Karen (unfortunately, it's a nice name)

Similarly, Alexa must be less popular these days!

TulipsLilacs · 26/03/2023 20:34

I agree about Sheila. Maybe Joyce. I like Joy though.
I like Joan since watching Mad Men. There was one when dd was at primary school. Very cute

Buttalapasta · 26/03/2023 20:35

I know a young Jean.

Gaylord
Percy
Jolyon
Ethel
Beryl

TulipsLilacs · 26/03/2023 20:35

I think Jean is cool too

everything has it's time and life works in cycles. You don't like those names because of fashion but it takes very little for things to come back into fashion - a famous role model, a popular character in a book, film or tv.

I'd never have thought Eva would have had a revival because it is old fashioned and makes me think of Eva Braun but it became very popular.

Speaking today I'd think Ethel, Hilda and Edna but one day they'll be back. Like Arnold.

Neverknowinglysensible · 26/03/2023 20:35

There was a thread the other day where someone was asking for suggestions for a fourth daughter. Quite a few of the OP’s nevernames came up!
and, allegedly, Ray is making quite the comeback!

Suzi888 · 26/03/2023 20:36

Lisa
Karen

NoWordForFluffy · 26/03/2023 20:36

Had I been a boy, I'd have been Derek Gordon. Neither of which are likely to make a comeback, I'd imagine (thank god I wasn't a boy; I can't imagine being a mid-40s Derek in 2023)!

TulipsLilacs · 26/03/2023 20:36

I think biblical names like Paul and Mark will come round again

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 26/03/2023 20:36

Gary
Keith
Percy
Ernest

Paula
Tracey
Beryl
Doris

pinkspaghetti · 26/03/2023 20:36

Apparently David Mitchell and Victoria Coren's daughter is called Barbara which I quite like.

I’ve heard Joan a few times! I can imagine Mark coming back although it’s not for me. I actually really like Elaine but then I am a Seinfeld fan. And I love Neville! But it doesn’t seem to have come back.

Names like Ian and Gary. Karen will need some time unfortunately.
Also Lettice.

BooksAndHooks · 26/03/2023 20:37

I think most of those will be the names that come back when my kids have kids. Most of them aren’t too bad, some mentioned are already becoming used especially Ethel.

Daisychainsandglitter · 26/03/2023 20:37

Iain and Alan
