Do you know any adult who still does that?

One of my friends and his brother still walk the stairs in their house on all four.

They're both in their mid twenties.

They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!

Is it?

So weird!
That would be like crawling around instead of walking...just why

No and no. I don't know anyone who does that.

caringcarer · 21/03/2023 17:31

I have to do it going up as back pain. Never coming down though.

CrunchyCarrot · 21/03/2023 17:35

I'm not even sure how it's done, I wasn't brought up with stairs! I've never heard of it before.

RampantIvy · 21/03/2023 17:38

I've never heard of it before.

I have only heard of it on mumsnet TBH. I appreciate that some people with mobility issues might need to do this, but I just walk or run up stairs.

Redglitter · 21/03/2023 17:41

I have knee problems & it's actually a lot easier & faster for me to go upstairs that way.

DidyouNO · 21/03/2023 17:41

I do it on the stairs up to the second floor. It's an old Victorian house and the first flight is normal but the second flight is really steep and exhausting and now I'm a bit embarrassed 😞 😂

Because its easier for some people with mobility issues

LittleGreenDuck · 21/03/2023 17:44

It's definitely unusual, but I'm tempted to give it a go.

These people who think it's totally normal, do they also scamper up stairs in public places?

feellikeanalien · 21/03/2023 17:47

Well I'm embarrassed to say it but I've just tried it as I've never heard of it being a thing unless someone has health issues.

It might just be our stairs but it's a lot harder than just walking up and I think I might have knackered my shoulder.😁

I bet they don’t because they know it makes them look unhinged. Not talking about people with mobility issues and physical ailments, of course that is 100% understandable.

flutterbyebaby · 21/03/2023 17:51

Haha I still bump down the stairs on my arse

Forestfire12345 · 21/03/2023 17:54

God no . Weird
Never heard of this before either. I'm afraid I'd be ..." Wtf are you doing?!"

Rubyupbeat · 21/03/2023 17:56

I fo it going up the stairs as my hips are knackered and all 4s are less painful.

Rubyupbeat · 21/03/2023 17:57

Hands and feet, not knees

JamSandle · 21/03/2023 17:58

I do very occasionally

OP was talking about able bodied adults

Rowgtfc72 · 21/03/2023 18:06

I'm 51 and have always done it. Assumed most people did! ( used to surf down the stairs on cardboard as a kid- that would just result in broken bones these days)
I still walk across my landing on tiptoes like I did as a child too.

Redandyellowelephant · 21/03/2023 18:06

For some reason I do it at my mums house all the time but I've never once done it at mine and I have no idea why 🤣 I think maybe it's because I'm the only adult in my house and feel I have to act adulty whereas in my mums house I feel like I can let go abit 😅

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 21/03/2023 16:11

Men who admit to sitting down to wee make me flinch.. Urgh....

My ex-h used to do this. I think he was trying to be respectful in a house full of women as we were back then. I wish my 12 yo DS would sit down. He appears to hit every available surface 🙄

MithrilCostsMore · 21/03/2023 18:08

I do this when I'm drunk, climb the stairs like it's a mountain.

PurpleWisteria1 · 21/03/2023 18:08

The only time I’ve done it is when I was heavily pregnant with twins and it hurt so much to walk upstairs after being sat down for a while.
But never ever otherwise.
if I saw any adults doing this I would think they were extremely weird / mentally unwell or had an injury. I mean why otherwise? Totally bizarre

PurpleWisteria1 · 21/03/2023 18:09

flutterbyebaby · 21/03/2023 17:51

Why!!?

SpaghettifingerFusillitoe · 21/03/2023 18:10

DH doesnt even sit to Poo- he’s a real man 💪

Nor me! I’m genuinely taken aback that this is a thing.
