Do you know any adult who still does that?

One of my friends and his brother still walk the stairs in their house on all four.

They're both in their mid twenties.

They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!

Is it?

Yes I sometimes do this. It’s actually much easier than walking up on just your hind legs.

I am 50 and completely normal.

Hind legs? As opposed to what? I only have 1 set of legs!

Same here!

Ditto!

More hygienic and physically better for males to sit down and pee. Bladder empties more efficiently so less likely to have UTIs. If it’s a nocturnal pee blood pressure can drop so there’s risk of passing out when standing, particularly with older men. Add to this the splashing from poor aim and the vapour droplets that creates sticky floors and clings to toothbrushes, towels, flannels etc. That’s why male toilets and urinals stink.

I live in a grade 2 listed building, one set of stairs are steep, curved and has no banister, I have been known to go up them on hands and feet, although generally I don't go up them at all because it hurts my foot too much.

RachaelN · 23/03/2023 01:46

This never crossed my mind to do. May have to do it to see my partners reaction 😂

I do it sometimes. Our stairs are very steep.
And I prefer men who wee sitting down. It’s cleaner and they don’t leave the loo seat up.

This re sitting to wee

I have never ever heard of this

same... I[m truly baffled... I dont even really understand what it means, exactly!

Just screaming while cutting the cake

I knew a family when I was a teenager who did that and I found it unnerving. The mum was from a Central American country and I think I just assumed it was a tradition from her country

Me neither. It's giving me a The Exorcist vibe 😱

OneTitWonder · 23/03/2023 02:18

WTAF? I have never seen or heard of an adult doing this. We live in a two storey house and our son stopped doing it at about age 2.

mathanxiety · 23/03/2023 02:38

Makes me wonder what further gobsmacking revelations there may be on MN.

I've never encountered another person above age 2 who does this, or admits to it.

Ha ha, I thought the same. I'd find it hard as I got older I think, sore back and all 🤣

Chaznay · 23/03/2023 06:13

Totally. In Germany it’s quite commonly to see signs on communal toilet doors telling men NOT to wee whilst standing up. Much nicer.

battgirlatheart · 23/03/2023 07:54

Lol yeah I did it when I had my steroid injection in my hip and was in agony and couldn’t lift my leg well but that’s about it lol
even my disabled special needs 12 yr old doesn’t

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 23/03/2023 09:45

I read that some of the invading Russian army in Berlin in 1945 were completely unfamiliar with stairs and I suppose it’s possible that if you came to stairs late in life you might adopt this approach. It could then carry on for a couple of generations.
Or it could just be for fun.
I used to be absolutely ace at running downstairs but I rarely do that any more. I think I’ve lost my nerve.

Vynalbob · 23/03/2023 20:05

Sweetomine · 21/03/2023 16:11

Both ways

Now you're pulling our legs 😱

Fluffmum · 24/03/2023 22:45

I still do it 😂

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 21/03/2023 16:11

Men who admit to sitting down to wee make me flinch.. Urgh....

... I think it's respectful to the rest of the household and far cleaner.

No toilet seat left up, no pee dribbles down the side of the bowl etc.

Men who swing their dicks around with reckless abandon and expect others to clean up their literal urine make me flinch.

That's going on my list of "things I would never in a million years tell my mother about" (if I had a penis).

@JarJarByTheDoor
Always encouraged my kids to be open, but there are some things I don't need to know..😁

lilkitten · 03/04/2023 20:55

Oh god, I just read this and realised I do it, and worried that I am mad. Glad to see I'm not the only one. In my defence the stairs are steep, but it's fun too.

taybert · 03/04/2023 21:35

I went to my parents’ house with my sons today and I ran upstairs like this. I didn’t even realise I’d done it until my 8 year old laughed and said I looked like a cat. It’s the house I grew up in so I think I must regress when I go there! (I don’t do it in my own house)
