Do you know any adult who still does that?

One of my friends and his brother still walk the stairs in their house on all four.

They're both in their mid twenties.

They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!

Is it?

I've never heard of or seen any adult do this. It's weird to me.

Do they come down backwards like a toddler?

Mind blown!

SnowyPetals · 21/03/2023 16:26

An able bodied adult crawling up or down the stairs is very odd.

soffa · 21/03/2023 16:27

people go down stairs on all fours?!

HerodAntipasti · 21/03/2023 16:30

How strange.

I used to know someone who would run up the stairs playing air drums and doing the sound effects. That was quite funny.

Weallgottachangesometime · 21/03/2023 16:32

I got upstairs like this sometimes. Especially if I’m going up fast. I wouldn’t describe it as a crawl, but more running up the stairs using my hands to help.

I can’t imagine doing coming downstairs though. How would that work

YukoandHiro · 21/03/2023 16:34

Oh KNEES?!!

God no. I meant just use hands and feet.

YukoandHiro · 21/03/2023 16:35

Oh sorry, you're saying not knees.

I'm tired.

Same. Even my toddler doesn't do that!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 21/03/2023 16:37

Sometimes going upstairs - yes. Very steep stairs, tiny treads, and arthritis. Plus handrail on my weakest side and cannot be swapped. Coming down is the old two step shuffle!

DarkShade · 21/03/2023 16:37

I do this but would never admit it IRL or when people are round. It's just fun.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 21/03/2023 16:38

I sometimes have to go upstairs on all fours, and downstairs by bumping on my backside. Not very elegant, but the state of my knees, hips, and back will occasionally dictate the manner in which I ascend and descend.

One day I’ll magically live in a one level home. Today is not that day.

slamfightbrightlight · 21/03/2023 16:40

Adult humans moving on all fours absolutely freaks me the fuck out.

AlltheFs · 21/03/2023 16:40

I do up all the time but we have steep, small, old cottage stairs that you can break your neck on. I also have a 3 year old that likes me to chase her up making Gruffalo noises….

I couldn’t do down.

soffa · 21/03/2023 16:41

I've done it on a few steps when i stayed in a cottage with an almost vertical stairs & little space on the step.

Celticdawn5 · 21/03/2023 16:43

I sometimes use my hands to go up as my stairs are that steep (old house) and it helps if I’m in a hurry. I don’t coming down, that involves a sideways movement as steps too narrow to put a whole foot on.

Lemonandorange · 21/03/2023 16:51

I still do it, so does my partner

Turnipworkharder · 21/03/2023 16:53

If you have back issues it's so much easier to do all fours going up stairs.

DuckonaBike · 21/03/2023 16:54

Yes I sometimes do this. It’s actually much easier than walking up on just your hind legs.

I am 50 and completely normal.

Trimalata · 21/03/2023 16:54

If you don't run upstairs on all fours, then how are you going to be fast enough to beat The Monster who lives at the bottom and only emerges when you turn the lights out?

🤣🤣🤣 classic! So true.

Torch. Especially the Fox Mulder or CSI type 😉 Still involves lots of whimpering though.

stbrandonsboat · 21/03/2023 16:57

Do they do it in shopping centres and at work as well?

picklemewalnuts · 21/03/2023 16:58

If they are scampering up the stairs at speed, rather than lugging themselves up one sighing step at a time, then I'd see it as a sign of youthful energy and envy them!

AliceTheeCamel · 21/03/2023 16:58

I like to go up the stairs on all fours occasionally. Like a pp said, it's good for your inner child.

Never down the stairs though, and never when anyone's watching!
