Do you know any adult who still does that?

One of my friends and his brother still walk the stairs in their house on all four.

They're both in their mid twenties.

They seem to think it's completely normal and everyone does that!

Is it?

OP posts:
Greentree1 · 22/03/2023 13:07

Do they do it in shops and offices or just at home?

Houseofpainjumparound · 22/03/2023 14:01

I do it when I chase my children cause it makes a noise.... I don't do it cause I am tired...

And yes to men who sit when they wee...cleaner and no loo seats left up or missing the bowl

WhatNoRaisins · 22/03/2023 07:53

Sorry what? Yelling while cutting a birthday cake?

😂 Glad I'm not the only one who's never heard of this.

Climbing stairs on all fours = normal
Yelling when cutting cake = not normal

moaningmyrtle4 · 22/03/2023 17:45

Am I the weirdo?

In my mid 30s and I still sometimes do this!

busymomtoone · 22/03/2023 17:53

I’m utterly perplexed and bewildered by this ! I mean why? Di they crawl outside too or is this behaviour reserved for stairs ? I have never, ever seen or heard of an adult doing this. Mind blown by fact it seems quite common?!!

busymomtoone · 22/03/2023 18:00

Though ( cus I don’t know how to edit my above post) I am now somewhat cibcerned that I’ve missed out on a few decades of fun and intend to practice scampering upstairs this evening!!

wentworthinmate · 22/03/2023 18:11

It’s weird but I haven’t done it for 40 years so will be having a go shortly!

DuskHail · 22/03/2023 18:11

What the hell? 🤣🤣that is just creepy and weird! Reminds me of something from silent hill…

Diva66 · 22/03/2023 18:58

I don’t know anybody over the age of 2 that does this!

threatmatrix · 22/03/2023 19:20

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 21/03/2023 16:11

Men who admit to sitting down to wee make me flinch.. Urgh....

I’ve trained the males in my house to do this. No splashes or drips on the floor etc.

I still do it on occasion. Sometimes the inner child comes out. DH appreciates being able to see my butt so well while I'm doing it so good for our marriage too. 10/10 would recommend.

Lmao this is why I do it!!! Lol! I will say really loudly 'Oh no, I have to go upstairs again to sort the kids room....sigh!' and my OH will hilariously run to the bottom of the stairs to watch, much to the absolute utter disgust of our children....
:-) Must be doing something right after 17 very happy years! lol

HelloIsItYouImLookingFor · 22/03/2023 19:41

I do it and I'm 37 but then i suffer from lupus, psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia so its more of a need for me. Although i very very rarely use the stairs now

neighboursmustliveon · 22/03/2023 19:47

The stairs in our old house were steep and so would sometimes use my hands as well.

AllyArty · 22/03/2023 19:52

I do it occasionally when my back hurts but generally speaking doing it all the time is weird imo

queenMab99 · 22/03/2023 19:59

I do it since I turned 70 and my mobility is poor due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, it is cheaper than a stair lift😉

cavalier · 22/03/2023 20:06

Stairs can be very dangerous … so it’s prob a good idea to be fair lol

i twisted mine on a stair well once when I was a lunch time lady and nearly passed out
so some ways I can understand why people are cautious
my cousin fell down stairs with her baby years ago as she used to change his nappy upstairs

cavalier · 22/03/2023 20:06

My foot i mean lol

1974devon · 22/03/2023 20:55

Used to work with someone that made her husband and sons sit down to pee
..i was amazed

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 21/03/2023 19:31

I don't know anyone who does that.

You only think you don’t. We stair scamperers don’t generally make it public. I’m actually going to go and do it in a minute because I don’t think I’ve scampered for several days.

It’s the same as secretly avoiding the cracks in the pavement because of the bears. Absolutely no fun if anyone knows you’re doing it.

@WiseUpJanetWeiss This made me cry with laughter 😂 I hope you enjoyed your long-awaited scamper!

Chicheguevara · 22/03/2023 21:21

I did in my old house, which had the steepest stairs ever. Narrow too. I never did feel quite safe using them. Current place, I never do. Mind you, current place doesn’t have a staircase resembling a number 72 bus steps but with carpet.

curlywurlylover666 · 22/03/2023 22:09

I have not read all of this thread but my goodness, thank you mumsnet. This thread has made me laugh out loud and I have needed a giggle!

pteradactyl · 22/03/2023 22:36

Oooh yes. I love the thought of it being a scamper. I like to scamper loudly up the stairs sometimes, banging the stairs with my hands as I go up. It's quite a stress release actually. I would thoroughly recommend a scamper to a friend. I don't crawl sedately up them though, but I might when I'm older.

I sometimes scoot down on my bum too, but admittedly only when my toddler insists. Its also quite fun.

Try it, you might like it.

I go up by placing my hands on the stairs in front of me, but with my feet on the stairs if that's what you mean?
Sometimes, when I'm alone, I lay on my front and surf down head first like I used to as a child when I'd race my brother down in a ' surf race '.
