When people suddenly/without warning

A few weeks ago I had a (sort of) argument with a family member. I don’t know how it came up, but someone mentioned dying, and how they’d like to go. I said “I want to go suddenly, just sitting in a chair with a glass wine, and not know anything about it...those close to me know I love them, so there’s no need to say goodbye.” This other family member said “no one dies just like that - it’s almost always slow and horrible” She’s quite a bitter, angry person, who picks arguments, so I let it drop. But people DO go just like that? Don’t they? I mean, sat in front of the TV, or whatever. I must admit I’ve never known it happen. My own experiences of death have all been pretty horrible, and I’ve never known anyone die suddenly, or instantly.

My first FIL died walking across the room holding a mug of tea. He was found laying on the floor with the mug lying in a puddle of spilt tea.

If it hasn’t been mentioned then google Kathryn Mannix she describes what normal dying is like she is a palliative care consultant

@PandyMoanyMum yes. She wrote a very article on the Queens death.

My takeaway from this thread is that I'm glad I drink coffee ... far too many seem to die just before, asking for, or just after having a cup of tea!!

Loads of people die like that;
My Grandad
Neighbors Dad: had spent the day gardening and had a snooze before tea, but didn’t wake up.
Colleagues Mum.

Tommy Cooper died in the middle of a performance. The audience initially thought it was part of the act and were laughing!

What a way for a comedian to go though!

I knew a young woman whose Grandad died as he was preparing to the leave the house to go on holiday. Infact he wasn't found for 2 weeks because everyone thought he WAS on holiday. He was found smartly dressed in his hallway with his suitcase ready to go by the front door.

Also - Clement Freud (spit) died at his desk in the middle of writing a report on a horse race.
