Uncultured opinions thread

A thread for those of us who have less refined tastes.

No arguing please, like the unpopular opinions thread please respect the uncultured opinions.

I'll start;

Oscar nominated films are often boring and rubbish. I'd rather watch old episodes of Gavin and Stacey or Ghosts. (I'll make an exception for Titanic, the greatest film of all time)

OP posts:

Thick white bread makes much better toast than sourdough

Goats cheese tastes like goats smell.

Wishimaywishimight · 14/03/2023 16:59

@PotPotatoFacedWombat Do you mean it's true that it's a 'craft' or that it's just guff? Either way is fine, I am happy to accept I know absolutely nothing about acting, I'm just talking as a fairly ignorant observer!

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 14/03/2023 16:59

When it comes to chocolate, I prefer quantity to quality. Spend all that money on multiple bars of Galaxy, rather than a exquisitely-wrapped box of six tiny chocolates with soft centres.

I prefer generic 'pub' food to fancy food. I'd still rather have multiple meals at a carvery or Harvester or chain pub/restaurant, than a single posh meal where the largest portion is the size of a coaster in the middle of a huge white plate (if you get a plate at all, many times it's on a slate instead)

i wear supermarket clothes. I don't have the patience for clothes shops.

neverendinglauaundry · 14/03/2023 17:00

I prefer a pint of flavourless lager like peroni to a craft beer or a fancy IPA

TheShellBeach · 14/03/2023 17:00

Spam is the best food ever invented.
Especially out of a tin.

Klunt · 14/03/2023 17:00

Every so often my friends and I dress as disney princesses and go and get drunk and do disney karaoke.

I don't understand why people like the Beetles.

TheShellBeach · 14/03/2023 17:01

IHeartGeneHunt · 14/03/2023 16:38

Richmond sausages are far nicer than fancy sausages, and yes I know what's in them.

I agree.
I was elated when the food bank had so many packets that they gave me six of them.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 14/03/2023 17:02

Pot Noodles are a tasty lunch option.

Wishimaywishimight · 14/03/2023 17:03

I still re-read my childhood books from time to time - the Antonia Forrest books about the Marlows are my favourites, also Noel Streatfield, Enid Blyton and many more.

Goats cheese tastes like goats smell.

I agree on both counts.
Goats cheese is rank 🤮

Wishimaywishimight · 14/03/2023 17:05

@KKlunt OMG, I don't think I have ever met anyone else with this view of The Beatles! I always thought them completely over-rated, some nice pleasant little tunes but hardly worthy of the adoration.

Wishimaywishimight · 14/03/2023 17:07

I love Barry Manilow. Saw him in Concert in 2012, it was the most fantastic fun. Although when he danced (not very well) he reminded me of someone. It came to mind near the end of the show. It was Cilla Black, something about the way he moved. I don't hold that against him though.

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 14/03/2023 17:08

Omg I also hate the Beatles! I usually keep that on the down low as you usually get crucified if you admit it, and have some really clued up music appreciator give you a hundred reasons why they're so brilliant and important and you end up saying something like 'hmmmm well I suppose I just hadn't really appreciated that before' when you're actually thinking 'I still hate them but I want you to shut up and go away' Unless I'm feeling really bolshy and then I might be more honest. 🤣🤣

ThreeRingCircus · 14/03/2023 17:08

I love Toby Carvery. They do a cracking roast dinner and I especially like going for breakfast there and having Yorkshire puddings with my fry up.

Galaxy is the best chocolate.

Last night I had a sandwich for dinner....thick white bread, lots of butter and crushed up Wotsits for the filling. Washed down with a glass of wine. It was heavenly. 🤣

QuertyGirl · 14/03/2023 17:08

Instant noodles are amazing

Star Trek is the best tv show ever (I will die on that hill)

Threads where people recommend loads of literary fiction as their favourite books are BS. Bet it's actually Twilight for most of them Grin

MajorCarolDanvers · 14/03/2023 17:09

I like tetley tea and instant coffee.

Fruit and herb teas and fancy coffee can fuck off.

CathyorClaire · 14/03/2023 17:10

Richmond sausages are far nicer than fancy sausages, and yes I know what's in them.

Sausages aren't sausages unless they're made of lips, balls and eyelids 😉

RoseBucket · 14/03/2023 17:10

Tapenade · 14/03/2023 15:09

I like traditional British seaside towns - arcades, funfairs, donkeys and all the tackiness that goes with that.

So do I! I love a good old fashioned ‘tacky’ seaside, hot donuts and 2p machines. (I also like olive tapenade on sour dough bread 😆)

MeinKraft · 14/03/2023 15:09

I tried reading Wolf Hall. Got 20 pages in and swapped it for the latest Milly Johnston.

You got further than I did. So many copies in the charity shops too. I love Milly Johnson's books too

Sistanotcista · 14/03/2023 17:11

Justmeandthedog1 · 14/03/2023 15:22

I hate Shakespeare. Every play I’ve seen has been like watching paint dry. Books work as well as sleeping pills though.

Love this opinion!!

mrstreacle · 14/03/2023 17:12

Justme10 · 14/03/2023 15:58

I like reading ya romance books, occasionally set in American high school were the 18 year olds act about 10 years older, I love the drama!
I am in my late 20s though so I hope that makes it a little more acceptable BlushGrin

I love YA vampire books and I'm in my 60's so I beat you!

Danikm151 · 14/03/2023 17:13

Wine tastes like vinegar.

dirty greasy fried cheese chicken is better than a fancy meal

TiffanyBean · 14/03/2023 17:13

I could live off KFC and Diet Coke.

I also love Danielle Steel books and learned a lot from her as a teen 🤣

Sistanotcista · 14/03/2023 17:14

Stoechas · 14/03/2023 16:52

Pleasure centres in my brain obviously. It’s not like I’m getting my rocks off with a plate of sausages.

😂😂

Soontobemumof2x · 14/03/2023 17:15

Mothers pride bread is the best bread on planet earth. Everything else is just shit.
