Uncultured opinions thread

A thread for those of us who have less refined tastes.

No arguing please, like the unpopular opinions thread please respect the uncultured opinions.

I'll start;

Oscar nominated films are often boring and rubbish. I'd rather watch old episodes of Gavin and Stacey or Ghosts. (I'll make an exception for Titanic, the greatest film of all time)

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but cold baked beans are far far nicer than warmed up ones.

My all-time favourite TV series, I watch it all the way through probably once a year, is Dawson's Creek.

I am in my 50s.

I have found my people 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Tribollite · 14/03/2023 16:30

Wine is foul acidic grape juice.

maddy68 · 14/03/2023 16:31

Warburtons white bread is the second only to Asda tiger bread

newtb · 14/03/2023 16:34

Ham and pineapple pizza is lovely with chilli flakes sprinkled over. Was gutted when Costco stopped doing it. Was my favourite snack.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/03/2023 16:34

I prefer the taste of feta from Asda to the one I had in Crete.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/03/2023 16:35

@Switchwitch of you're not teetotal I can recommend vodka and irn bru together

IHeartGeneHunt · 14/03/2023 16:38

Richmond sausages are far nicer than fancy sausages, and yes I know what's in them.

Ohwonderful · 14/03/2023 16:38

Eating a kebab, on the couch, out the box, watching true crime!

mathanxiety · 14/03/2023 16:41

No salad is complete without a liberal springkling of bacon bits in it. I've just polished one off. Yum.

Knittedfairies · 14/03/2023 16:41

I prefer cider to wine.

Ireallywantsomechips · 14/03/2023 16:42

Asti is superior to Prosecco because it tastes like pop.

Reality tv is soothing and makes me feel better about my own life.

RubbishDay · 14/03/2023 16:42

A pie and chip butty is heaven 😁

Colourinsidethelines · 14/03/2023 16:44

I almost exclusively read trashy novels. The one where girl meets boy, fall in love, some drama/misunderstanding happens, break up, get back together. I’ve read hundreds and never get bored.

I rewatch the same tv programmes on repeat. The OC, Bridgerton, Gilmore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy. The TV versions of the trash books I read 😂

Justalittlebitduckling · 14/03/2023 16:45

I like ketchup or mayonnaise on everything. Vegetables, rice…

Rinkydinkydoodle · 14/03/2023 16:46

Loving these, save your money buying me luxury chocolate, Cadbury’s all the way, gimme that so-called sugary cocoa butter crap any day. I also don’t really like challenging or complex wines, cheeky merlot or a bottle of pink garden juice is all I need (Kylie rosé🥳) Recently re-discovered Bacardi as well, phwoargh.
We watched several of the Oscar nominated films, didn’t mind Tár but the first twenty minutes were an effort of will, can only assume they were trying to make a point, but if I’d been watching alone I’d have been gone.

SparkyBlue · 14/03/2023 16:48

For me my ideal day in would be episodes of Taggart. The ones with Mike, Jackie and Robbie. Absolutely nothing better. To be enjoyed while eating chilli Doritos with sour cream dip.

Defender90 · 14/03/2023 16:48

Chips, cheese and chinese style packet curry sauce is heavenly.

A takeaway is far superior to a sit in meal.

CathyorClaire · 14/03/2023 16:50

Opera invariably seems to involve unfathomable storylines told in screeches.

Brown sauce and vinegar are the nectar of the gods and should be on hand at every meal.

YolayCaprese · 14/03/2023 16:50

Clothes from Lidl are fine.

Argos is an excellent shop where you can buy almost anything.

A car is a car is a car, it doesn't need to be a BMW to do its job.

I fucking hate "local restaurants" full of snobby types and stuck up twats. Food is food. Nandos is fine.

I go on holiday for a break, not to trawl about to eat "local" food and getting the shits.

Train007 · 14/03/2023 16:51

Cadbury over expensive chocolate
Sainsburys chardonnay over champagne
Pub food over expensive restaurant
Oh and I do enjoy the occasional cigarette with my cheap wine
Self catering over luxury hotel
But I do prefer club class over economy!

Stoechas · 14/03/2023 16:51

Sausages, chips and a pint in the pub whilst wearing jeans, a fleece and supportive foot wear lights up my pleasure centres by a factor of ten compared with wearing a posh frock to a restaurant where the waiter puts the napkin on my lap for me.

Stoechas · 14/03/2023 16:52

Pleasure centres in my brain obviously. It’s not like I’m getting my rocks off with a plate of sausages.

Wishimaywishimight · 14/03/2023 16:53

I really really want to have hobbies (well, I sort of do) but I like sitting down a lot.

I wfh and while I occasionally go for a walk at lunchtime, more often than not I lie on my bed and watch Classic Emmerdale.

I feel slightly irritated when actors talk about their "craft". They're pretending / play-acting, okay so it's a grown up, money making version but I still can't take that sort of guff talk too seriously.

I was a professional actor for a long while and I can confirm that this is true.
