Uncultured opinions thread

MeinKraft · 14/03/2023 15:00

A thread for those of us who have less refined tastes.

No arguing please, like the unpopular opinions thread please respect the uncultured opinions.

I'll start;

Oscar nominated films are often boring and rubbish. I'd rather watch old episodes of Gavin and Stacey or Ghosts. (I'll make an exception for Titanic, the greatest film of all time)

I prefer frozen mashed potatoes 🥔

Goodyetalso · 14/03/2023 17:41

I enjoy a blue WKD on occasion.

I like Robusta coffee better than Arabica

I’m reporting myself for Pseud’s Corner for this, having read all the subsequent posts.
😂😂😂

Whilst I do read - and usually enjoy - classic/worthy/intellectual books, it is VASTLY eclipsed by the amount of time I spend reading Star Trek fanfiction.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 14/03/2023 17:37

That's not really an 'uncultured' opinion.

Yep, surely the uncultured opinion is "Eastenders is fantastic"!

In a similar vein, in any other Irish mumsnetters are on this thread, I never miss an episode of Fair City.

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/03/2023 17:47

I like a Harvesters early bird meal.

I don't want a reduction of this, with a coulis of that served on a roof tile by a wanky hipster with a man bun.

JoonT · 14/03/2023 17:47

What makes you think Oscar-nominated films are high culture OP?! The vast majority are unwatchable, cliche-filled, woke rubbish. 95% of the stuff Hollywood churns out is worthless. The original Office TV show (I mean the British/Gervais one) is far superior to the crap that gets nominated for (and wins) an Oscar. So is Alan Partridge and The Simpsons.

High culture means the prose of Henry James and Virginia Woolf, the art essays of Walter Pater and John Ruskin, the dialogue of Oscar Wilde and Aldous Huxley, the music of Beethoven and Wagner, the paintings of Picasso and the Pre-Raphaelites, the philosophy of Plato and Spinoza, etc.

But something doesn't have to be 'high culture' to be any good. P. G. Wodehouse, for example, didn't produce high art, yet he was one of the finest prose stylists in the English language. Very few people have ever written so well. In fact, Stephen Fry considers him a greater stylist than Thomas Hardy or D. H. Lawrence. The best episodes of The Simpsons (especially the second and third seasons) are also sublime, and far superior to a lot of pretentious/arty films.

I would much rather have a plate of fish fingers than a plate of lobster 😂

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but cold baked beans are far far nicer than warmed up ones.

Yes.

DH would leave me if he knew I ate them straight from the can with a spoon. Grin

Warburtons white bread is the second only to Asda tiger bread

They've changed the recipe.

southlondoner02 · 14/03/2023 18:01

Opera is a terrible loads of screeching and not even a trip to La Scala has convinced me otherwise

White wine has to be freezing cold to be drinkable so it doesn't taste of anything

Red wine all tastes the same

Posh chocolate is not worth buying

maddy68 · 14/03/2023 18:02

Franticbutterfly · 14/03/2023 18:00

They've changed the recipe.

What???? How dare they ?

I no longer live in the UK and I long for it

leilani83 · 14/03/2023 17:24

I put ice cubes in my wine if it isn't cold enough 😂

I live in Spain and it's the norm to ask for your white wine with ice. So you are not uncultured you're well travelled 🤣

I prefer frozen mashed potatoes 🥔

Yes! Give me aunt Bessie's frozen mash over proper mash any day!

MrsComet · 14/03/2023 18:08

I prefer eating my tea on a tray infront of the TV than sitting around the table with my family. By that time of day I'm tired and hungry and need a break from social interaction

Opera is too loud and classical music doesn't move me...unless it's part of a film score

I'm going to Disneyland Paris this year and I haven't looked forward to a holiday this much in years.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/03/2023 18:10

I’m prone to putting bread and butter on the table with our evening meal (at least twice a week) and we have a pot of tea with it every night too. I’ve never drank water with a meal.

Stayeduptoolateagain · 14/03/2023 18:10

I like Rustlers microwave cheeseburgers (a cheeky dirty rustlers). I hide them at the bottom of my Tesco basket, under my dairy milk.

midsomermurderess · 14/03/2023 18:12

If I’m not enjoying a book, I stop reading it. None of that, ‘oh, I can never not finish a book’ for me.

Deathbyfluffy · 14/03/2023 18:12

tabulahrasa · 14/03/2023 15:29

I like blue WKD and wine all tastes like vinegar.

This! Exactly this 😁
Can’t beat a WKD

MeinKraft · 14/03/2023 18:12

'High culture means the prose of Henry James and Virginia Woolf, the art essays of Walter Pater and John Ruskin, the dialogue of Oscar Wilde and Aldous Huxley, the music of Beethoven and Wagner, the paintings of Picasso and the Pre-Raphaelites, the philosophy of Plato and Spinoza, etc.'

Oh right. Not interested in any of that either tbh.

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 14/03/2023 18:12

White wine tastes of cat piss.

wendywoopywoo222 · 14/03/2023 18:16

I love my hot tub.

I love cruising. Don't much care where it goes I just go for looking at the sea, eating too much and sinking unlimited cocktails.

Stayeduptoolateagain · 14/03/2023 18:17

Also, I don't like city breaks. They're dull and hard work. I've been on two; I did a quick bus tour on each and then headed to the pub 😁

MajorCarolDanvers · 14/03/2023 18:19

Donor kebabs are delicious

I tried reading Wolf Hall. Got 20 pages in and swapped it for the latest Milly Johnston.

Brilliant
