Uncultured opinions thread

A thread for those of us who have less refined tastes.

No arguing please, like the unpopular opinions thread please respect the uncultured opinions.

I'll start;

Oscar nominated films are often boring and rubbish. I'd rather watch old episodes of Gavin and Stacey or Ghosts. (I'll make an exception for Titanic, the greatest film of all time)

I like to wear what clothes I prefer that keep me warm, rather than what looks OK, I've got one of those hats that look similar to the guards at eg London tower. It's very warm

Violinist64 · 15/03/2023 22:14

I’m just as happy with instant coffee as the real variety.

Avarua2 · 15/03/2023 22:21

If left to my own devices I could think of nothing better than an afternoon of watching reality TV.
Sadly I'm never left to my own devices.

Xtraincome · 15/03/2023 22:49

Oh yea I am adding Eastenders in. Bloody love it!

Artisticpaint · 15/03/2023 22:51

Intellectuals and academics are often stupid and lack critical thinking.

miserable depressing art and theatre is a lot easier to make than comedy.

Intellectuals and academics, are part of the reason you have the technology we have today, yes different subjects I can understand are more theory,

mathanxiety · 15/03/2023 22:55

I watch stuff like Say Yes to the Dress, How Clean is Your House, hoarder shows, Househunters International, and Help! I Wrecked my House and the like online so people who want to watch nature shows on the bigass biggish TV can do that to their heart's content.

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 15/03/2023 23:02

Popcorn makes a fine meal as long as it is generously dressed with melted butter (or butter substitute, I'm not a snob).

Occasionally I go to a movie just so I can eat a bucket of popcorn.

IHeartGeneHunt · 16/03/2023 07:31

I also love EastEnders. On my child free days off I like to put the Drama channel on for all the "classic" soaps.

Whatamigoingtodopleasehelp · 16/03/2023 07:34

I love pork scratching and scampi fries.

Noicant · 16/03/2023 07:34

I like nandos

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 16/03/2023 07:49

I have never been to Nando’s

Jericha · 16/03/2023 07:52

My mum keeps buying me artisan chocolates on high days and holidays from an independent chocolatier. They are all hand made and presented beautifully. I would actually really like a nose bag of maltesers or minstrels. Posh chocolate is wasted on me, I would prefer whatever's on offer for £1 in Tesco, like a four pack of crunchies.

MissKittyFantastico84 · 14/03/2023 16:15

I love Pizza Express.

I hate the way actors act and speak-shout in theatre plays.

I detest spoken word poetry. It makes my angry.

I love watching Columbo, Marple, Poirot and Midsomer Murders even though I've seen them all before.

Vanderpump Rules is one of the best TV shows ever made.

I would go on a solo woman trip to all the Orlando theme parks in a second if it wouldn't cause concern amongst my friends and peers. Grin

Come on over to Telly Addicts where there is a fab thread about the Scandoval!!

Whatamigoingtodopleasehelp · 16/03/2023 07:56

I enjoy watching WWE and don’t mind drinking wine from a mug.

Brunonono · 16/03/2023 08:12

Only plastic cheese will do at a BBQ to go on top of burgers.

Also, plastic cheese and ketchup sandwiches are delicious.

Finally, it's not a poem if it doesn't rhyme. Not that I'm keen on any type of poetry!

lieselotte · 16/03/2023 09:02

I do like posh chocs but I like Maltesers and Crunchie bars as well.

Totally agree olives are yuck.

Don't get the love for poetry or opera. I sang in a choir at school and university but I don't really like choral music, I'd rather listen to instrumental music.

And I like Pizza Express as well.

I tried reading Wolf Hall. Got 20 pages in and swapped it for the latest Milly Johnston.

You got further than me, I didn’t make it twenty paragraphs in!

Thomas Cromwell will always be second only in the Utter Bastard Stakes to his master.

LoveSick64 · 05/05/2023 05:36

I prefer tap water to mineral water.

LoveSick64 · 05/05/2023 05:36

I prefer tap water to mineral water.

Same! Unless it’s hard water or from artesian wells, that’s awful.

Jane Eyre is by turns as dull as ditchwater and utterly infuriating, and nothing on Earth would persuade me to read it ever again.

<having been forced to pore over every word of the dratted thing for O'Level>

I thought the same thing after wading through it for my GCSE and it totally putting me off English. Some boring woman stuck on a moor moaning about life.

But in lockdown I inexplicably read it again and actually thought it was great. So perhaps there's something about being made to study a book that ruins it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/05/2023 09:54

So perhaps there's something about being made to study a book that ruins it.

There definitely is - I was put off Jane Austen for years.

CountingMareep · 13/05/2023 23:19

These days I find I’m put off a book by someone telling me I must read it.

It was so much easier when I was about 8 and could pick fairly random stuff off the kids’ A-Z By Author shelves at the local library.

BigFishontheTelly · 15/05/2023 15:18

Sometimes I think officials / councils are so caught up in protecting the historical parts of a place they forget to think about what's good for the modern dsy residents of those places now.
