Uncultured opinions thread

A thread for those of us who have less refined tastes.

No arguing please, like the unpopular opinions thread please respect the uncultured opinions.

I'll start;

Oscar nominated films are often boring and rubbish. I'd rather watch old episodes of Gavin and Stacey or Ghosts. (I'll make an exception for Titanic, the greatest film of all time)

I am going to Disney in Florida for my 60th birthday

i love Midsomer and cosy mysteries

and Pandora bracelets and charms

iceland chicken strips and onion rings are gorgeous

louderthan · 14/03/2023 23:47

I think street food is overrated. I don't want to eat standing up in the cold, I'd rather go to McDonald's or Nando's.

CountingMareep · 14/03/2023 23:47

Any wine over about £20 a bottle is paying for the name not the taste.

Most people can’t tell the difference between Lidl own brand champagne and Cristal.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/03/2023 00:00

All musicals are shit.

Fancysauce · 15/03/2023 07:44

Bags that cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds are no better than bags that cost £20. They all do the same thing, and quite often the cheaper bags are more practical.

I am honestly baffled by parents who restrict their kids screen time to something like an hour a day at weekends etc. My kids love gaming, and they have a couple of hours every day, more at weekends. They're excelling in school, healthy weight, get plenty of exercise, read, all sorts - gaming is just another hobby.

I also love gaming and have spent hours bonding with my dc over our Minecraft worlds.

Alcohol is horrible, especially wine.

Supermarket clothes are fine - all made in the same factories as the expensive brands and I'm guaranteed they will have something in my size.

Worthy Oscar winning films are usually shit. Would rather watch repeats of an old sitcom.

Shakespeare is utter rubbish. Why are we still hanging onto his every word in every school curriculum when there have been millions of better texts written in the centuries since? Why not study things that are accessible and interesting to modern children?

PookieHook · 15/03/2023 09:36

All I drink these days is squash, as I can't stand plain water. And it's not your "adult" posh cordial, it is bog standard Sainsburys Orange, lemon and pineapple squash and I give no fucks about what anyone thinks about it. I am 50 years old!

Yes! "Street food".. what is that? When were hands and implements last washed? 🤢

Shufflebumnessie · 14/03/2023 17:21

I love The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Selling Sunset and Below Deck (Med & Sailing Yacht).
I would much rather stay at home watching movies and eating chocolate than go to the theatre.
I love a take out - McDonalds, Domino's, Fish & chips, Chinese etc.
I'd much rather eat at Pizza Express than a fancy restaurant.
We love going on holiday to Orlando / Disneyworld (not that we can afford to do it regularly but on the 2 occasions we've been, we had an amazing time!).

I think we'd make very good friends indeed @Shufflebumnessie Grin

Sliced corned beef on white tiger bread done under the grill is the food of the gods.

Oysters are like eating snot. Truffle oil is grim.

I get genuine joy at a good cozy pair of flannelette pajamas. Bonus joy if they are Christmas ones.

I read the Daily Mail (online).

I do and then go to the comments section and green arrow all the racist, bigoted ,misogynistic comments!

GlassBunion · 15/03/2023 16:29

Sainsburys own label Chardonnay, in a box, is lovely and great value.

Tulip Bacon Grill in a tin is delicious.

Watching good telly like Morse, Midsomer, Poirot while eating fish and chips on a tray , is the best of evenings.

'I know this sounds very uneducated but I really don't care how the Greeks made pottery'. Me at the Acropolis Museum, Athens.

'It's freezing, there's no cafe and there's no toilet. It's rubbish!' Fellow-walker on the summit of Scafell Pike.

I used to enjoy throwing a nice hard curved-ball into the gushingly pro-Royal comments threads. Was a laugh a minute!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/03/2023 17:31

I hate our afternoon all staff meetings. Waste of time when we are already behind schedule with very little hope
of catching up, even before a time wasting meeting. Fmc do not need to know what f@b are having for dinner!

Yeah when I hear people waxing lyrical about the pyramids I just think 'so?'
Clearly they had some kind of technology that became obsolete. Big deal.

I love socks and always add them to my 'wish list' for Christmas. I buy them them whenever I see some I like and store them in a bag under my desk. Every now and then I throw out some old ones and replace them from my stash, this genuinely gives me pleasure.

Often I don't read the articles at all - just look at the headlines then go straight to the comments 😆

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 15/03/2023 19:32

Eastenders Christmas special is one of my favourite things about the festive period!

CathyorClaire · 15/03/2023 20:27

Big Brother is the epitome of reality TV and I am delighted it's returning after five long years in the wilderness.

I'm only sorry it won't be in the original house at Elstree which I was fortunate enough to visit both as 'audience' and on a once in a lifetime National Trust afforded opportunity.

CathyorClaire · 15/03/2023 20:38

Yeah when I hear people waxing lyrical about the pyramids I just think 'so?'

Apparently they're located alongside a motorway rather than tucked away in the desert and only accessible via a three day camel ride.

Even less inspiring.

I'd rather take my chances with the sharks on a Sharm El Sheikh AI deal.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/03/2023 20:42

Stately homes? I'd rather have a nose around new build show homes.

goinggoinggoneagain · 15/03/2023 20:44

You can make a sandwich out of anything, yes, even pasta.

Figrolls14 · 15/03/2023 21:03

I hate the Beatles and I love massive hoop earrings

TheChosenTwo · 15/03/2023 21:21

@YellowAndGreenToBeSeen what the hell is a flat roof estate pub? Never heard of one of these before (although I may have been to one?!) 😂

Clothes from Lidl are fine.

Argos is an excellent shop where you can buy almost anything.

A car is a car is a car, it doesn't need to be a BMW to do its job.

I fucking hate "local restaurants" full of snobby types and stuck up twats. Food is food. Nandos is fine.

I go on holiday for a break, not to trawl about to eat "local" food and getting the shits.

Whoever you are, I love you ✊🏻
