Uncultured opinions thread

A thread for those of us who have less refined tastes.

No arguing please, like the unpopular opinions thread please respect the uncultured opinions.

I'll start;

Oscar nominated films are often boring and rubbish. I'd rather watch old episodes of Gavin and Stacey or Ghosts. (I'll make an exception for Titanic, the greatest film of all time)

If there hasn't been an action packed fight scene or disaster sequence in the first five minutes of a movie then chances are that I'm already scanning for something else to watch.

ClassicLib · 14/03/2023 20:12

The Brontës are the most overrated authors in history. I couldn’t fucking care less which posh dickhead some vacuous simpering bint marries.

I only really watch films with somebody I really fancy in.

I’ve never stepped foot inside M&S, Ocado or John Lewis.

I’ve been to Waitrose once and walked back out when I saw the products were twice the price of Tesco and much worse quality.

I’ve never been to Costa or Starbucks etc.

Definitely cadburys or galaxy chocolate over more expensive chocolates.

Most designer items are crap and the producers are literally laughing at the people who buy it for a ridiculous amount of money, just because it’s designer.

I hate classical music but rap music and watching the Kardashian’s.

My DC has lots of screen time, some of which are games over their age range.

I will happily drink fizzy with my meal (there was uproar because an OP drank lemonade with her meal and apparently it MUST be only water or wine).

Teeheeeheee · 14/03/2023 20:18

Caviar, oyster, cheese are all overrated and they make you shit pus.

Sometimes, I still wonder what my fave big brother contestants are doing today

This deserves a thread of its own!

Classical music is appallingly dreary as is most early to mid 20thC tinkly, tinny music.

I thank my lucky stars I was born in an era where I can enjoy anything from 60's prog rock and psychedelic to punk, new romantic, Brit pop and onwards.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/03/2023 20:26

Work WhatsApp groups were invented by satan.

Mentalpiece · 14/03/2023 20:26

Anything national trust, museum and art gallery bores me to tears, as does theatre.
I love a wedding. In fact, I love any celebration which involves food, drink and dancing.
I have no time for all this ' artisan ' nonsense.

squashyhat · 14/03/2023 20:27

I have been known to do the mixing custard powder with a small amount of milk and some sugar thing, then not bother making the custard and just drink the mix.

Mademetoxic · 14/03/2023 20:31

Cadburys chocolate is vile, like eating wax. (Palm oil)

luxuryisforme · 14/03/2023 20:34

I've watched Sister Wives twice 🤭

Teeheeeheee · 14/03/2023 20:39

Unless you can afford to spend money on it and travel all over the world (literally, not just going to Thailand, France and Australia), there's much more to experience online than offline. The only difference is that offline would also involve the sense of touch to feel what you're experiencing.

This also includes children's experience/knowledge and exposure.

Bottomline: It's okay for them to watch (healthy and different kinds of) videos as much as possible as well as do other things offline.

Ppbbwwt · 14/03/2023 20:39

My favourite restaurant is Pizza Hut.
Most films are rubbish, I only ever like children's films really. My favourite ever film is Paddington Bear 2.

Bensmum1988 · 14/03/2023 20:54

My hubby and I always round off a tasteful wedding where posh food is served with a Big Mac meal. Or a Whopper meal from Burger King if we are feeling slightly more refined. Of course this is our darkest secret.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 14/03/2023 20:58

I would rather play a gripping computer game than do almost any other activity.

ClassicLib · 14/03/2023 21:00

‘Artisan’ sourdough bread is disgusting. It is invariably over baked, the crust is like eating concrete and scratches the inside of your mouth, it’s all crust & no bread, it goes stale within a day and it’s ridiculously overpriced.

Give me a loaf of Morrisons tiger bread any time.

ClassicLib · 14/03/2023 18:38

Jazz is crap. It’s self indulgent, tuneless, boring rubbish.

Oysters are disgusting, slimy inedible muck.

Bring a gun to a knife fight!! Easy on the jazz hate! 🎶 🎵 😆

I prefer takeaways to posh food
Beans on toast is an acceptable meal
I love Guylian chocolate seashells
Iceland is my secret fav supermarket

mellongoose · 14/03/2023 21:25

Fried egg on a slice of white bread accompanied by some potato croquettes is an outstanding combination which must be eaten in secret.

EspeciallyDedicated · 14/03/2023 21:29

Egg and chips with salt and cheap ketchup in a greasy spoon is the food of the gods.

Ha, DH and I have also gone to Burger King after a posh wedding where they never seem to serve enough food!

inigomontoyahwillcox · 14/03/2023 22:53

Give me Walkers crisps or Richmond sausages over their snobbier alternatives and I'm happy.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/03/2023 22:57

Okay we have veered away from Uncultured Opinions and into Darkest Secrets, but this is my absolute favourite!

louderthan · 14/03/2023 23:27

I love theme parks and reality TV.
I also love a tacky seaside town, Southend is a joy as is Bridlington.
I live in Brighton and it's not tacky any more, just twatty. Makes me very sad.
The one glorious exception is Brighton Pier, genuinely one of my favourite places on earth.

Last wedding I went to I had to get a kebab and cheesy chips when I got home 😂
