That's a good title, it gets the point across without anyone being able to harness the mods over it!

Thanks Roussette!
Woke up to a thick pack of snow and an unexpected lie in

Anyone see the thread about not voting labour in a forthcoming GE. Found it quite depressing and it felt as if I was living in an alternate reality where the country was fully functioning and all fine and dandy.
Sadly I think they've played a blinder with this potential legislation. It's just fresh meat to the Brexshit brigade. For the first time I think they'll turn it round.

Loving Rishi's tweet on the last thread. The Conservative communications team seem a bit incompetent

Also - how exactly are the conservatives thinking that "modern slaves" get here?
It sounds like theyjust want to stop spending money on modern slavery responses to me
DuncinToffee · 08/03/2023 09:36
Just like the 'Illegal Migrant Bill' is the perfect name for a bill that is illegal.
PMQs later.
L1ttledrummergirl · 08/03/2023 09:37
Thanks @Roussette for the new thread.
I found the not voting Labour thread interesting, ignoring the posters who would never vote for Labour, there are some good points that Labour should listen to.
The reasons for not voting Conservative is so long and has no opposition which says a lot.

You jest, but.
We know the current Tory government don't believe in paying people a wage they can live on. Don't think that people should be able to protest or go on strike, so...

"On small-boats. I've yet to find a Tory MP who thinks it will actually work. Or who believes even Braverman thinks it will work. One senior Tory said "she knows it won't work. Her plan is to eventually resign, and claim No.10/officials undermined her strategy".

She'll resign and then pull a Johnson from the backbenches and be brought back.
pointythings · 08/03/2023 10:16
@Notonthestairs can we please not mention 'pulling a Johnson' while I am trying to eat? I don't know whether to vomit or spray yogurt all over my keyboard.

Isn't a Johnson a cock in american slang? That sentence says it all and is spot on!

We're the two on this thread with filthy minds 😂🤣

Workforce plan without numbers of workforce needed. That will fix things.
"The Treasury is pressing the NHS to water down plans to increase the numbers of doctors and nurses.
Senior officials are understood to have suggested removing all numbers from a blueprint for training doctors and nurses over the next decade.
While Jeremy Huntt_, the chancellor, is unlikely to accept this, Treasury officials are pushing NHS chiefs to include lower estimates of the need for doctors and nurses for fear that the present shortages will commit the taxpayer to higher spending for a decade."

I have long thought that Prime Ministers like hedge fund managers are too left wing, so I can see why Braverman might need to resign.

Hope you don’t mind but I feel this is an appropriate place to post a reminder of history that was published in 2015 of what ending up on the wrong side of history looks like.
“The way stateless Jews and Germans are pouring in from every port of this country is becoming an outrage. I intend to enforce the law to the fullest."
In these words, Mr Herbert Metcalde, the Old Street Magistrate yesterday referred to the number of aliens entering this country through the 'back door' -- a problem to which The Daily Mail has repeatedly pointed.
The number of aliens entering this country can be seen by the number of prosecutions in recent months. It is very difficult for the alien to escape the increasing vigilance of the police and port authorities.
Even if aliens manage to break through the defences, it is not long before they are caught and deported.
The greatest of their difficulties is employment”

At least Gary Lineker has taken the advice and responsibility previous generations have gifted us and the notion of ‘lest we forget’ seriously.

Will you be voting tactically then to get the Tories who you hate, out?

Good morning from the bit of Scotland that isn't snowy. Thank you for the new thread.
Radio Scotland is covering last night's wannabe first ministers' debate. Which I missed.
Apparently Scotland has proportionally lower numbers of asylum seekers than rUK. It also has a serious problem with the ferries going to the western isles. (Imagine if Isle of Wight residents couldn't get to the mainland for days in need). Some Scottish islands have a problem with depopulation.
Maybe Suella could redirect the small boats round to the west coast of Scotland 🤔

Oops I was really posting to thank @Roussette for the new thread. The joys of being a woman of a certain age 😆
