Is ANYONE still buying Heinz baked beans?

Just a light-hearted post.

As title says, just wondered if there was anyone out to there still buying Heinz baked beans? We all know the price of cans is now extortionate, and everyone I know seemed to have switched brands.

Surely they can't be getting the sales anymore to keep going?! 🤯

I only buy Heinz. I like them and can afford them. I'd switch if I was genuinely struggling for money but I'm not.

GlassBunion · 02/03/2023 09:33

I rarely eat baked beans and tend to buy Heinz.

The last few times I've had them I've thought that they didn't taste quite right. I'd go so far as to say it's almost as though all the Heinz beans have been replaced in their tins by an inferior brand, if you see what I mean.

LifeunderMarrs · 03/03/2023 01:04

Waitrose own brand now. I just wish they'd bring out a low sugar and salt version like Heinz did.

Adding smoked paprika, chilli flakes and yes salt and sugar makes for lunch nirvana IMO.

I loathe baked beans but my husband is quite fond of them. Insisted on Heinz but siphoned off half the sauce before he ate them because he doesn't like anything in too much sauce 🙄Long story short, a few years ago in an "out of stock" moment he discovered supermarket brands, less sauce, more beans, less sugary. For me, M&S tomato ketchup is the superior, much cheaper, alternative to the Heinz.

I agree. I think Heinz beans seem different now, and not for the better. I thought it might just be that, as I don’t eat them often, I had forgotten how they tasted.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 03/03/2023 10:30

I only eat beans rarely and yes, Heinz. I tried own brand ones a few years ago and they were crap. Are there any good
own brand ones?

CoinsinaJar · 03/03/2023 10:31

Yes I am. Have tried Aldi, Lidl and other own brands and just not the same at all! I'd rather pay a bit more and get a product I actually enjoy eating. Same goes for other big brand products too ... But, I agree that - at around a pound a tin, they are ridiculously pricy now.

CambsAlways · 03/03/2023 11:01

Yes, we buy the multipack of 4 Heinz No added sugar ones and will continue to do so.

BridieConvert · 03/03/2023 15:32

Swapped to Asda just essentials - can't tell the difference!
Will always buy heinz ketchup though

LieInsAreExtinct · 04/03/2023 09:51

Stopped buying Heinz years ago when I realised they were actually double other brands, tried Branston, preferred them. Now Branston has gone quite expensive too, buying Sainsburys own brand and they're fine.

Ihaveaquestionn · 04/03/2023 09:57

Yes we go through about 4 tins a week thanks to my DD - haven’t thought about changing brand as we love them

Manthide · 04/03/2023 10:10

Dd1 actually bought me some as part of my Christmas present! They are my favourite but we're having beans less and I'm the only one who's bothered so generally buy Branstons.

Yes Asda’s own in the red tin.

No one does the beans and sausages like they do

I wait for them to be on special and then guard them at home so that no other fucker can have them

Dh fancied beans the other day when I was at work. He realised that we only had my Heinz beans in the cupboard (Christmas present from dd1) and very wisely has fried eggs instead!

10 for £10 in Iceland

Still expensive at £1 a tin.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/03/2023 10:26

Haven’t for years. Branston far tastier, and 4 tins for £2 in Home Bargains.

BouleBaker · 04/03/2023 10:26

we always have the Heinz 5 Beans which we like as it has all the different beans in. Picked up a can in Waitrose, saw it was £1.80 for one tin and promptly put it back! That's just ridiculous for a tin of beans.

drpet49 · 04/03/2023 10:27

Heinz as a brand went downhill years ago. Their baked beans and ketchup are awful now.

frostyfeb · 04/03/2023 10:28

We bought actual Heinz beans from the local corner shop when we ran out of Tesco ones and my daughter who loves her beans refused to eat the Heinz's ad they taste horrible

Whatthetrolley · 04/03/2023 10:34

I bought Asda ones the other day and both children declared they tasted like washing up liquid. Had a try and there was definitely a weird after taste. So that's a no from us on them!

Sainsburys or Aldi are our bean of choice but noticed yesterday that Aldi beans are now up to 45p a can

tammie49 · 04/03/2023 11:02

I sometimes buy the little tubs which I know aren't cheap but if I'm on my own, i so often open a tin, put the second half in a tub then find it in the fridge a few days later and that feels wasteful.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/03/2023 11:12

If we have leftover beans that aren't going to be used they go in the freezer. Saves buying those awful plastic pots that are even more expensive.

Zanatdy · 04/03/2023 11:12

I’ve been getting Tesco ones for years

Tourmalines · 04/03/2023 11:35

Only Heinz will I ever buy in, but in the ham sauce . Delicious.

concertgoer · 04/03/2023 11:53

Nope. Never have. Never will. Think they’re revolting. Taste cheap and nasty but are actually expensive! We have supermarket own & the budget range if it’s going in a meal rather than served as a side.
